I guess I want to be optimistic but Hollywood doesn't have the greatest track record of adapting anime. Have 0 cares for anything Hollywood attempts. It doesn't matter what the content is, it's how its done. Maybe if Christopher Nolan were directing it and it had a better actress than Scarjo. I guess she's one of the actresses who can get closest to Major's look though. Edge of Tomorrow being the one decent thing they adapted from Manga to the big screen but that had Tom Cruise and pretty good direction for 4/5ths of it. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. Standard Hollywood procedure. If it were directed by Christopher Nolan doing The Dark Knight quality I'd expect to really like it. But it's by some Rupert who has only done "The Huntsman" Fffffffffffffffuck

HolydaKing, IIRC you were just wanting to read through the Novels instead of watching the OVA, right? At this rate, it might be a while till you get to finish them...

Yeah I wanted to do that, but I think next year (or so?) there'll be a remake anime so I will probably check that out too. Volume 3 won't be here until the end of the month (29th Nov).

The biggest difference between them is that Attenbrough doesn't really exist in the Novels. Hes been mentioned like... once as existing and is part of the Yang Fleet, and thats really it. Part 1 has some side story novels stuck into it (a lot of the Noble Court Plots and such), but otherwise nothing major is different. I feel like the anime did the capture of Iserlohn better, but the novel did Kircheis' suppression of the Kastrop Rebellion better. + Show Spoiler + As in, I like the introduction of Tonami because they once again talked about Arima's jealous side. However, after they had sex, that was it imo. Aside from getting married (wasn't gonna happen at their age), the show should've dedicated maybe 1-2 episodes to tie up loose ends and show them both being satisfied at their relationship and its direction to close off. Instead, we got Tonami coming back, they showed Arima's jealously and then we had what felt like fillers with the whole cultural festival and Arima once again doubting that he can be happy etc... it just becomes too repetitive and annoying to keep beating your audience with the same idea 20 times over especially at that point because we've already had Miyazawa tell him her feelings over and over again. Guess having Tonami finally realize his feeling for Sakura was pretty cool to see but that could've been done without because it felt like they removed some of the attention on the MCs. Anyways, 8/10 for that and changing those last two episodes. Reminded me in a way of Eva's last two painful episodes but these were watchable at least lol.

All the sources say that it's going to be an Anime. Don't know if that's just my definition, but for me, a CG movie isn't an Anime. @Modern Miyazaki isn't as good: I agree that the best Miyazaki-movies lie quite far in the past. Princess Kaguya mady by was probably the best Ghibli movie for many years. (Although I have to admit, I always loved Takahata's work just as much as the old Miyazaki movies. Grave of the Fireflies is, imo, still among the very best Ghibli movies) Doesn't change anything about the fact that I'm super hyped for a new Miyazaki though. He created multiple all-time classics and even his "worst" movies are definitely worth seeing. And maybe the "retirement-break" brought out the best in him again. And I think that there's pretty much no doubt that "more Ghibli movies" cannot possibly be bad. :-P

In german terms (and i guess in english terms as well) there's normally a quite clear distinction between cartoon'ish movies and CG. Dunno how it is in Japanese terms though. I can see your point though. Maybe that's more wishful thinking than anything else, but I read the news more along these lines: Miyazaki tried to do a short CG movie, figured it sucks and decided to go for a full Anime instead, because that's how he wants to tell the story. Therefore I don't see a clear indication that it's going to be a CG. Then again; Maybe just wishful thinking, because I don't really like CG movies.
