Ok but why is that? The show _looks_ pretty good so far. I don't dig the characters yet and I'm not a fan of this GAR shit but the animation carried it for the first two episodes.

The episode just looked really bad and wasn't very fun or entertaining.
Fun fact about episode 4:
Takami Akai, the producer of the series and a co-founder of Gainax, announced that he would resign his position effective episode five, which aired on April 29, 2007, over comments that he made regarding posts on the Japanese Internet forum 2channel. Akai and another Gainax employee, Keiko Mimori, made disparaging remarks about comments criticizing the animation style of the fourth episode of Gurren Lagann, which was completely directed by guest and friend Osamu Kobayashi. With regard to reading the fan criticisms, Akai stated that it was "like putting [his] face next to an anus and breathing deeply." Fans later became aware of his comments, and he announced his departure from the company he helped to found.

Also yeah, the show has mostly the same staff as kill la kill later had with some differences but they had buckets of money to throw at it. There was an old meme talking about how they spent 40% of the budget on the final 5 episodes (i'm still not sure how true that is, but i honestly wouldn't be that surprised if it was true)
So the show looks fucking amazing

Also 17 chapters my ass, they're all between 60 to 120 pages long.

You going to continue with the other series? Getter Robo G is fairly short and forgettable, but Getter Robo Go is some really good shit, its one of my favorite manga.

I most likely will at some point but I'm satisfied with what i've read for now. Also i want to start watching Gundam before continuing it, there's just something special about experiencing a series that started it all.

Touken Ranbu: Hanamura (based Dogakobo being based. Can't remember something from them that I didn't like so going completly blind into it not even reading synopsis o/)

It's another one of those mobage-based shows. If they go way off the rails, it could be okay, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

TV since I don't want to miss out on anything, I might watch the movies afterwards if they're like what DYRL was to Macross.

Speaking of Gundam, does the origin manga have the same plot as gundam 0079 ? I'm interested in reading that too.

DYRL is different enough to be its own story. The Gundam Trilogy is more like how compilation movies should be. Same basic product, but some fluff cut out (for better or worse). Main thing of note for the Trilogy is the 3rd Movie has a lot of redrawn scenes, so it just looks a lot better than the TV Series, which had various production issues resulting in QUALITY at times. I personally loved the TV Series, but there are those here who prefer the Trilogy's pacing.

The Origin manga has more or less the same plot. Its not entirely the same thing, so its more like a retelling than just an adaption. It has a lot more backstory in it than the original series did as well.

Oh ok. I'm pretty sure will like Yozakura Quartet. I'll also go ahead and recommend Barakamon and Higashi no Eden to you. Higashi no Eden might be a bit heavy but it's not too serious in my opinion.

Its become obvious (especially these last few days) that you and I have a radically different take on things. Death Parade had some very low and boring troughs and some stronger parts, very similar to Stray Dogs that had some pretty boring/silly episodes but some really good kick ass ones thrown in with it.

I'm not saying everyone would enjoy Death Parade and it had a lot of faults. My comment was rather about quality than anything else. I'm basing this off the writing in the first episode of Stray Dogs. I honestly doubt it got better because in 9 out of 10 cases you can assess the author's abilities within the first episode(s). Although it might have become more tense/compelling story- and action-wise, I'll give you that.

Thanks for the info, might watch the movies afterwards depending on how much i'll like the show then. I will also check out the manga afterwards unless it has spoilers for the sequels.

Well, I think LoGH did well even after Reinhard basically had won the war. The church was quite mediocre as a villain to be honest and I even remember saying this when I was watching. However, Reuenthal later made a good "villain". The nice thing about LoGH was that there were very few characters I would call villains. Pretty much only the church and the fezzani. The other factions had a diverse spectrum of good, bad and arguable characters.
But yeah, I agree on what you say. That's one of the reasons I adore HxH so much because the villains here are real villains (except that bomber guy, he was terrible) and terrible OP compared to the main characters. Deus Ex Yamato had some decent Villains with Elk and Wolf but that's it. I think the show would have been much better if they focussed on exploration and sci-fi aspects as well as difficult situations, for example the technical difficulties they had. A show can be very enjoyable even if you know the outcome as long as the story and events unfold in an interesting way.

I guess they did right and made a certain character a woman for the sequel, right Numy?

Villain and antagonist aren't quite the same thing. It's an important distinction to make. They are often the same characters but the one doesn't inherently mean the other.

+ Show Spoiler [LoGH,Yamato,HxH] +
Reuenthal wasn't a villain, he didn't really have any evil schemes or actions. In fact I'd say he was rather a good guy. He did oppose Reinhard but if you look at it from another angle Reinhard is a dictator that could turn into a despot. LoGH is tough to talk about like this because in a way there are multiple protagonists as the story is able to take it's time dealing with each person. While Reinhard is the major protagonist you could make a case for Yang being a secondary one and even Reuenthal/Wolfgang or maybe it's a case of each character taking turns at being antagonist/protagonist. That's kind of how you want to set up political epics/operas.

Yamato being a space voyage story shouldn't really have tried this I think. They kind of dabbled in it but never gave enough time to the characters or the plot point to make it work properly. The whole rebel faction of Garmilians could have been an interesting thread but instead it just got shoved in there quickly. They just needed to either be tighter in their focus or expand on the length of show. A traditional space voyage story has a lot of "dead time" that could be used in lots of interesting ways while instead Yamato rushed through this potential. It's weird since they even gave themselves a decent time period of "365 days till earth dies".

HxH does that pretty well with it's arc structure. Sure Gon is the "main" protagonists but you see often the story sidelines him for other characters to take the spotlight letting the story and world build itself up more. I'd even argue that Gon is the least interesting character in the story and merely serves as a method of driving us to the next interesting piece. Pity HiatusxHiatus won't really deliver more.

It would have been 11/10 if all the males were changed too. Can never have enough plugsuits on cute girls.

+ Show Spoiler [LoGH,Yamato,HxH] +
I completely agree with you. I felt like Wenli and Reinhard were the "main" protagonists. I wouldn't say Reinhard was first. It had a lot more main characters. But that's what you can do if the show has a lot more time to flesh out every single one of them.

For Yamato, I kind of hoped that the Garmillas wouldn't be of relevance for the Yamato itself once they left the galaxy. Maybe one incident where the Garmillas pursued them. The Garmillas conflict could have focussed on their war with earth after that, if needed at all.

Completly agree for HxH again.

The only thing we agree on is Shouwa Genroku and I didn't even finish it

To be honest, I have seen much worse comparability.^^ Like -60 % with people that gave every cancer show in existence a 10/10 and everything half-way decent a low rating. We actually agree on a bunch of stuff, I just tend to rate more harshly I guess.
For my recommendations I tried to cast aside my personal feelings and tried to pick things you might enjoy. For some reason I'm pretty sure you will enjoy Yozakura a hell of a lot more than I did (note I don't think it's a bad show) for example.

ok after this epi17, i strongly disagree the sex change of some the original characters, simply because, i just realized this yamato project was about 'men's romance'. Goddamn remake team/director didnt get the unspoken truth of the meaning behind the original project....
is 2017, stop being lame, fuck's sakes. 'Can't wait for the rise of the cakes and humanity's last stand tbqh.'
