The only requirement for them is to be cute. I mean, same goes for Miss-Tuturu! from Steins;Gate. Side report: Steins;Gate ep13 was pretty much what I expected. Shows with focus on time-travel don't work as thrillers imho. But the show is far from being over so maybe it handles the rest better.

Still has a good fight every now and then. Romance is worse. Though I like Bell's reason for being OP way more. He just got lucky skills, rather than "the plot says he's best because he has to be".

Story is literally Bell-kun doing exactly what his grandpa told him to do, which is pick up girls in dungeons. That said, I think Danmachi does better than what most rpg harems are known for. @toad: I'm catching my flight soon. Expect danmachi in 2 hours or so.

Danmachi is amusing for me, thats about it.

DanMach said "screw that, we're not even going to try and pretend to be meaningful. We're just going to have a fun time", which I can understand people saying that means it's even worse because they didn't even try to give us anything meaningful to begin with. For me however it is a lot more enjoyable that way. Not having those cringe moments and just flat out entertainment without trying to be something it's not able to be. Depends on how you approach the show and what you're looking for. If you want it to be a decent story with character developement that exceeds "he's a emo dude wearing a black coat... and that's it" you're not going to have fun with either of the two shows but you'll probably think SAO is better because they at least tried to give us that.

I actually think it's worse to try and fail as hard as SAO did than just not even try in the first place. I guess I had my expectations too high with DanMachi since a lot of people were hyping it and I just found nothing of value in it.

SAO is by no means bad, anyone who calls SAO bad or trash has no idea about the bigger context of what the industry produces. Its certainly a slightly above average show that was ambitious, which probably led to its popularity, because it took an interesting concept and made a competent story with some nice characters. Sure did it fail to reach a lot of expectations people probably had for it after the initial exposure to it? Sure, there were several aspects and characters that went underdeveloped. So I can see where people are coming from when they are disappointed in the show but it was no means horrible. DanMachi is its own thing and the comparison fails below the very basic level of "has mmo type elements". I would agree though that it does not take itself as seriously as SAO did though and that is probably a big point in its favor. Also the characters are better and have the potential to blow SAO's out of the water if the author manages to develop them competently. The outfit+ahoge=so good. Shes not blank but shes not really that interesting as a character nor does she have good chemistry/interactions with most of the rest of the Fate Universe.

Kirito is absolutely awful. He's as uninteresting and boring as they come, hell i consider magical ninja jesus to be slightly more interesting. And asuna starts out alright and then instantly goes into being one of the worst female characters i've seen in anime with what i'd probably call reverse character development, pretty impressive actually. Overall SAO created an interesting setting and concept and then squandered it completely by focusing it around kirito, SAO's setting with a focus on a guild or a group of characters would've been a ton better i think, or if kirito had been a good character it might've helped too. I however don't think SAO was 1/10 worst anime i ever saw, i considered the first part of season 1 to be a 5/10, which to me is average but the second part was a 3/10 to me, absolutely awful which made me give the show 4/10 as its final score, below average. It's all going to come down to personal taste though, some people might like kirito as a character for reasons that are completely beyond me or they might enjoy the action/setting enough that they'll just ignore/don't mind the flaws. I mean the anime i enjoyed the most out of all was TTGL and it's not because i consider TTGL to be a flawless anime, it has a lot of flaws actually, but the parts of it i did like i liked A LOT. Enough that it overshadowed any flaws it has, to me anyway.
