The only reason I can stand Magic Jesus over Touma is that Magic Jesus is at least cool when he plot armours his way through story moments. If you're going to make sure an MC removes all tension from your story at least make him interesting and cool while he does it. It's no secret I love fantasy novels. I don't expect everything to be as well done as Erikson/Cook but at least try make it decent. @Toad - Lol I actually like Miyuki when Magic Jesus isn't round :<. She's a cool(huehue) strong female character when he's somewhere else.. Which is actually exactly the same as what happens with Misaka and Touma lol.
Those two stories don't have any competition in their genre (magitek fantasy+scifi genre) though... I look through a lot of LNs and no one is trying to write the better mahouka/index. It's not hard to succeed when you're the only product in that crowd. Mostly because it's actually pretty difficult to world build like those novels to begin with outside of certain people like Kawakami's horizon / owari no chronicle series
Everyone recent just writes their isekai or tensei fantasy stories all day
Also, i feel like i'm the only person who doesn't think mahouka is an action ln. there's at most like 1 or 2 fights per volume which is really low.
It'd be better to read VNs or LNs by vn authors if you don't want something targeted towards young adults.

I'm merely using Mahouka/Index as an example as I really liked their settings more than most. I feel that way about more LNs that get adapted and the few I read that haven't been adapted. So many interesting settings and characters just completely butchered by terrible formulaic execution.
edit: People think Mahouka is an action lN oO. The action is pretty awful and small part of the story. I think the best action he wrote was in the side chapter with that random gun guy and the Gangster girl.

What adaptions have you been watching though? If i go back and look at recent chuu2 LN adaptions, i would say that a lot of them failed in all worldbuilding, character, and story lmao. (hence why they only get 1 cour half-assed infomertials)

Hmm honestly I'd have to go back and look over everything I've watched to give you everything. Off the top of my head the biggest offenders I can think of are Index/Mahouka/LogH/Fatestaynight with SAO being an honourable mention for turning a cool female character into a glorified fleshlight but I don't fault him too much since he's just an awful author that lucked out. There are also manga stuff that gives me same sadness, SnK being the worst offender. I know there are more out there but don't really feel like going through everything to pick them out lol.

NGNL was pandering trash. Very enjoyable and fun pandering trash :D. It was rather shameless in being solely an advertisement for the LN though. I don't mind trashy shows, rather enjoyed DxD until the last few vols when freaking church trio took over.

I don't see how SAO and Fate are relevant when both were written 10-11 years ago. Hardly recent. I'll have to read Accel world or SAO vol 16(new content!) to see how reki is now.
But man, I thought you were gonna name other things seeing the complaint but meh.
I agree with steeplechase and double seven being filler. Though latest 2 volumes are pretty good (15 and 16)
Translation is going a lot faster now too so it won't take too long to come out.

Outside of Asia, the church trio is fine (Xenovia obv best). Plus heaven did Irina a solid with + Show Spoiler +the whole making a room whose sole purpose is to allow Irina and Issei to have sex without her falling.
I thought Fate/Stay Night VN was fine and most of my criticisms of it cover only a very smaller elements of the story.

ok. I was wondering but that's one where i really liked the world setting but the characters (mainly the MC guy) weren't that great. and yes there definitely was lots of pandering in there.

I agree with you, i haven't enjoyed the most recent volumes as much(Compared to what was before it anyway, then again volume 10-12 were super good imoimo, the series kind of peaked there), also partly because way too many short-story volumes back to back almost.
Atleast Ravel, Koneko, Kuroka and Le fay are carrying it. (And Ross post v17)
The upcoming volumes will focus primarily on akeno, rias and koneko supposedly though.
Ravel and koneko best girls.
Also i just began on non non biyori with its second season coming up next week, this is just the kind of relaxing anime i was in the mood for. So chill.

I like Xenovia a lot but Asia is so terrible she drags them both down. Doesn't help that Rias/Akeno get shafted for more Asia.

To be fair it was inevitable that there would be volumes where the girls you don't like get the lion's share of the time. Its just the nature of this type of series, each girl gets her moment in the spot light. All you do read them and wait for when the series gets back around to spotlighting whatever character you like.
