The use of surreal picture frames for "story-telling" didn't blend in well with the use of repeats/blends when they tried to show of hacking/mind manipulation. It was very confusing at times. The movie also had a lot of plot holes and loose ends. E.g. things like the firma and the hacker weren't really explained in detail and neither was their connection. It felt like they just took a number of plot points without trying to connect them properly. I also didn't like the excessive use of CGI, even if it was done well for the most part. They also threw in some some random action and melo-dramatic scenes. After the first movie I was pretty hyped for the SAC series but now I don't know anymore. Is SAC more like the first movie or more like the second one? Closer to the first movie, but really nothing like either.

Reminded me of a game I had 10 years ago which allowed to make "movies" with a background and some 2D periodic sprites (essentially gifs) of comics characters like Spiderman. It really produced the same results.

Innocence and SSS movies are after events of both SAC seasons, so you skipped 50 ep of event, no wonder it makes no sense. But SAC are much better. All movies except first one are pretty meh.

My understanding was the 2 films were Oshii doing stuff based on the manga, while SAC is its own thing. The stories are independent, but it's still same timeline. So if you skip SAC and jump to movies you would have little idea who is who and why they are doing what they are doing. Innocence did not exactly explain anything to help out either. It's like if someone watches the GSD recap movies without actually watching either series.
