Reminded me of a game I had 10 years ago which allowed to make "movies" with a background and some 2D periodic sprites (essentially gifs) of comics characters like Spiderman. It really produced the same results.

The stories are independent, but it's still same timeline. So if you skip SAC and jump to movies you would have little idea who is who and why they are doing what they are doing. Innocence did not exactly explain anything to help out either. It's like if someone watches the GSD recap movies without actually watching either series.
