So it's about the mask on the elevator right? Ok. Seems weird to me tho, the kid was just a biased kiddo while the woman had a shitty life but did her best to be happy with her children

I donno about that. The guy realized his mistakes and the stuff that he should have done/was important (like when he rememberd his stepmom and he said like "i couldn't even do something as simple as call her momma" while the woman was pretty batshit insane with the whole trying to kill the guy and attacking decim and all that.

I'm wondering what Death parade is even trying to get at/show with the overall series. Usually there's some sort of meaning/moral behind a show or at least something they're trying to do/show. This just seems like they're just doing stuff just b/c it's sad.

Not hoping, unlike a lot of Nisekoi readers I am perfectly content with the manga right now as long as the chapters continue to be good.

I think like Slaughter? also watched and really liked it. he'd probably give a better reaction to it than i did.

well it seems to be a faithful adoption then, a good third of the novels was echhi harem shit

if you read further where the blade dance festival actually takes place, it's pretty entertaining

yea see...i really wanted to see the blade dance festival...They hyped the shit out of it all series long and then they were like....lol nope we're not showing that.

Anyways on Death parade again, i was reading some stuff on MAL forum and some of this makes good sense for this episode

+ Show Spoiler +
I also guess the reason she went to the Void and he to reincarnation is that he really felt sorry for this he (mildly) had hurt in his life by his behaviour, while the showbiz star only cared for something she now had lost and didn't feel any emotion over her treatment of others. She sure had it hard, but I guess she showed the wrong kind of reflection. But just my guess.

i doubt she loved her children, because if you love them u wont say "I was about to be happy", if you love your children you'll be happy if they are healthy. Of course money can make your life better, but not everytime happy.

And that quote "send me back to THOSE children" not mine, but THOSE children.

Anyways, it looks like next episode will have some more of the characters from the OP and we can learn more about the "arbiters" and what/who they are (i'm hoping).

edit: Sigh...a ton of the ppl on MAL forum are dumb as shit though. they're all like "she went to hell, guy went to heaven blah blah blah" Im sitting here thinking "quit putting your own ideas of afterlife on the show. They explained it already, it's reincarnation or going to the void. NOT heaven/hell. It's not necessarily good/bad either."

Both had a shitty life and both were pretty selfish. But he turned it on himself and unwillingly hurt those left behind. He realised over the game how wrong he was. She on the other hand turned all that was shit in her life onto other people, hurting them directly (she even did it in death to a random person). And in the end she did not realise she was wrong but remained selfish and only thought about what SHE lost not what other people lost because of her.
At least these are my thoughts of that episode, just finished watching it. I honestly thought it wasn't to great for the first half but the end turned the whole episode around and it was really well done imho.

And yeah, Decim is a great character, I like him. I hope we will get more character development and insight in the world in the next episodes instead of another case.

I honestly don't like to discuss or read on MAL, especially not on shows that require a certain of amount of self-constructed thought and an open mind to other opinions. When I scan through the threads for death parade I only get annoyed. It's like a handful of really well thought out posts buried under a million posts that are like "the bitch got what she deserved" etc. It's a show to reflect on. It makes me sad that so many people seem to be so short-sighted. : /

Actually, the void and reincarnation have been defined in episode 2. Void is described as the soul being trapped as nothingness in eternal darkness. By the shows logic, void is bad. Reincarnation is good.

So Shigatsu. You guys crack me up. last episode and everybody was still on the hype train with the only downfall being the death flags, but everybody still seemed to not care so much about them. This episode and everybody's jumping off the bandwagon together.

I didn't think it was that bad of an episode. I liked the first half a lot, and it really is making me want those two to end up together. The ending was interesting. Based on all the things i've seen from her, i'm starting to feel like the blonde girl is in the early stages of MS. Which would explain the legs suddenly going out and whatnot.

Decim did nothing wrong.
+ Show Spoiler +
Woman was clearly self-absorbed and while they both had a shitty life, she turned her own shitty life onto others (hitting her manager for example) while the NEET just took the punches as they came.
Decim using the remote makes this clear as day:
NEET loses his ball thingy: Just sits there and waits for it to end
Woman loses her ball thingy: Goes and 'kills' the NEET

She turns her misery and suffering onto others.

Also yes, white mask means reincarnation and the devil mask means void, should be painfully obvious after episode 1 and 3
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

Nah, it's not like everyone is jumping off. I didn't really care for the characters before, either, and as said I didn't really take this show serious. This episode didn't change anything - for me at least. I will still watch it to the end.

Pretty sure the elevator imagery makes it very obvious that they do intend it to, at the very least, appear to be good/evil

Hmmm So my brother pointed out to me that in this episode of Death Parade they do say "heaven and hell" or w/e. But i'm curious if that was a translator thing or if thats what they actually said.

His other point that I thought was really good was that each pairing and game is like a test to decide who goes where and the whole series is one giant test for the girl who's like the MC (the one that's always with Decim now).

So, some more ongoing impressions. I'll reserve my judgement on a Death Parade for now 'cause I am rather disappointed in a weakened approach of the show. Unlike the OVA, the outcomes and explanations are predictable and games themselves are inconsistent. I really doubt bowling is going to be shown once more, it feels like a walk in a park compared to a darts or a snooker, for example. The series are still rather good, don't get me wrong, just could've been better - the only possibly ace left in show's hand in my account is the nature of Arbiters themselves and it can backfire pretty hard. At least I dig the ladies <3, giff character development please.

Tokyo Ghoul S2.
+ Show Spoiler [4/10, Dropped] +
First episode seemed to imply to me we finally got a showdown on our hands, some kind of "taking no prisoners"-action of three different factions clashing, and mc finally doing something interesting. Sigh, it was simply a marketing hook. All what awaits viewers next are even more mediocre worldbuilding, zero character development ('cause, ya know, girls suddenly got a feelings for our guy) and some messy clown enemies which would still beat upgraded Kaneki down to the pump. They don't even bother with ghoul's designs and personalities anymore, no human eating shock content either.

The Rolling Girls
+ Show Spoiler [5/10, Dropped] +
Feels like not my cup of tea overall. Yeah, it's certainly the most creative motorroller advertising I've encountered in my life, and all-female cast is always a huge plus, but ...the action is stupid. It feels like a parody at best and I don't feel like laughing, have seen better implementations of gang wars already.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu
+ Show Spoiler [7/10, Watching] +
I think I grasp the message, the atmosphere is warm, sounds are energetic and Jin Fukuyama's Korosensei is simply marvelous. On a objective side all high-schoolers have one-line character at best and plot progression is rather questionable. Imagine Superman bestowed the world government a mine of cryptonite for a chance to teach random kids in school or he would blow the Earth up immediately. Is there any person in a room who thinks there is a glimmer of intrigue in that kind of plot? So far, it's a well executed gag comedy, which makes even black humor sound totally family-friendly, but only god knows whether it is enough to keep our attention for the two straight courses.

Fafner: Dead Agressor S2
+ Show Spoiler [8.5/10, Optimistic] +
Such a pleasant surprise! Best directing, best action, best soundtrack and best secondary character cast so far marks Fafner as the best show of the season. There's still a possibility all efforts will go down the drain due to excessive UNDERSTANDING HAX finale, but before we get there it's the most thrilling 20 minute annual ride on a market. Hey, it even has female pilots with personalities you want actually care a little about! The setting has it flaws: the preamble is generic, amounts of technobabble could've been lower and it's kinda difficult to understand some nuances without watching the prequels. Character designs are definitely controversial of Gundam Seed bad fame, with the constant exposition and namedropping in the scenes you may feel a little puzzled at first. But, hey, everyone here still watches that Aldnoah kind of abomination, so every soft sci-fi piece would look advantageous in a сomparison.

I don't think I can remember a single non-Sunrise mecha series with a better production value than this, XEBEC continues to deliver.

If you pay attention they say that they(the arbiters) use the terms heaven and hell because they're easier to understand for the humans that enter quindecim.
It's not actually heaven/hell but reincarnation/void.

For me it's kind of just losing it's appeal, I actually am growing a bit frustrated with Parasyte as well, to be honest. For a 2 cour show, "more of the same" causes me to lose my interest in the second cour :D I will still watch, but I'm hoping to be surprised, is all.

Death Parade was... + Show Spoiler +
interesting, better than the last episode, but still not sure where this show is going. First game(darts) had me mega hype, second game (bowling) was pretty meh, last one (arcade), was better, but now leaves me wondering if there's anything connecting these episodes. A show can be episodic and good, but this one leads me to believe it's not trying to be purely episodic.

while i would like to disagree with the simplistic approach of treating void as bad and reincarnation as good. in ep 2 decim appeared flustered when he realised that he might have made a mistake after hearing that machiko may have lied to protect her husband. based on this i think he have sent her for punishment in the void since he judged her to have cheated on her husband based on her statement while the husband did nothing wrong.

if it is a simple tag of good or bad, i dont see why the writer specifcally needed to differentiate void and reincarnation from heaven and hell. the closest reference of void and reincarnation that cones to mind come from buddhism. from my limited understanding ,reincarnation is the cycle of rebirth. not necessarily a goodor bad thing but can be seen as a trial of sorts. the void is more ambiguous. it can be seen a limbo state. in some cases nirvana can be described as the flame of the candle being snuffed out. one bcomes liberated and devoid of his earthly desires. when one achieves nirvana one is also said to attained enlightenment. in any case, i think the void in this context describe the cessation of the rebirth cycle.

nona at the end of ep 2 was not too affected by decim's supposed mistake. revealing that the husband was not as blameless and his soul is tainted by distrust. nona also expects him to be back. trial by reincarnation perhaps. this raise an interesting point in that even the bar workers may have diffrent opinions on the elevator.

the most interesting thing in the same episode is the book nona read at the end which no one really talks about.

Well i always figured the void was just nothing. It's not a good place or a bad place or even a place at all. When they go there they're being removed from the cycle of rebirth and being returned to nothing, they become nothing, and aren't even themselves anymore. Hmm If you've ever read Orson Scott Card's Ender series (the later books particularly like "Xenocide" and "Children of the Mind") the place where Jane takes them outside of the universe where all the Aiua/philotes are....that's sort of what i'm imagining the void being like. There's no direction, there's actually just nothing there. It's the source of everything in our universe but it's not actually a place and not connected to any universe, and isn't even a universe itself. It's very paradoxical.

Im not very well versed in buddhism but I always thought it was rebirth through reincarnation until you reach nirvana and then you're not reborn b/c you've reached enlightenment/nirvana/heaven (for lack of a better word). I will say that one of my history professors asserted that the whole idea of karma and reincarnation was created to appease the lower classes....i.e. "If i work hard and be good and don't complain and stay in my class in this life...then I can have a better life in the next one"

The problem is, they define the void on their own fucking website:

Words 02 - Reincarnation and the Void

These are where souls that have been judged go.
Once the deceased have been judged after playing one of many games, they are escorted to two side-by-side doors, each containing a customers-only elevator leading to reincarnation or the void.
The "White Noh Mask" and the "Hannya Mask" are displayed above the elevator doors, and reveal where the souls are headed. Once the souls of the deceased have made their journey, their bodies take the form of dolls.
Those who are reincarnated may live anew in the present day, but those sent to the void are cast into the graveyard of souls.
Souls cast into the Void are left with their negative emotions and consciousness intact, and remain in nothingness for all eternity.

Personally, I think it was pretty dumb of them to define it, but whatever.

Interesting, I didn't know that. So it's sort of like what i said...the difference being their emotion and consciousness remains intact. Which makes it seem like a "punishment" and now when ppl say they were sent to be punished i can't complain.
