Araragi initially saves her purely because he wants to be a hero. He cared more about that than his family or "friends". Shinobu and Oshino spend the rest of the novel trying to get him back to being human while he does absolutely nothing on his own. He doesn't question anything and just goes along with the flow. Shinobu's major fault was wanting to die but being terrified of dying when she was going to die. She then helps rectify her mistake but setting it up perfectly so Araragi can return to being human without ever knowing the truth about her so he'll never feel guilty. He repays this to her in Bake by abandoning her in a school with Oshino and ignoring her existence for the most part. A lot could have been avoided in Kizu and Bake if he just took a moment to reflect on the things around him.
Araragi effectively throw away his life due to juvenile reasons while also destroying Oshino's attempt at balancing. I'm still a bit confused why Oshino thought killing Kiss-Shot was better for balance than leaving her. Seems like having a predator on the top is natural. I get Araragi not piecing things together at first but after he learns more about Oshino and how Oshino started this all he should have figured out Oshino would never allow Shinobu to regain her full powers so something must be fishy but again Araragi is a person that doesn't want to think of consequences of his actions. He'd rather just do what he feels is right and then do whatever he has to do to try fix the aftermath until that spirals out of control.
This behaviour is even more pronounced when he deals with Neko. Instead of trying to solve why Hanekawa is being forced to create Neko he merely deals with Neko as she comes. This causes the events with the Tiger which could have all been avoided if they just sat down and talked through things. The monkey is exactly the same. Oshino had to call Hitagi to create the stalemate otherwise nothing would have been solved. Araragi doesn't think things through at all. He doesn't fix anything either.
Anyway I'd love to hear your opinion on him and Kizu. Shinobu's existence is just too sad for me.
How fucking clueless he was. He completely ignored what being a vampire was AND didn't think about anything regarding how Shinobu was acting. Why did she feels so confident in his ability to beat them? Why did they agree to fight him in 1v1 duels when there's no reason for them to do it. Why is he upset about a vampire being a vampire? Why does he never question how Shinobu is going make him human again. Why does he almost kill her and has to be stopped by Hanekawa?
He's just a idiot, a huge fucking idiot that without Hanekawa's intervention would have killed Kiss-Shot. She does so much for him but he's ready to just throw her away because he can't be bothered to use his brain for one fucking second. There were so many moments and clues surrounding her that he ignores in favour of rushing to be human. He has a hero complex but doesn't want to deal with the consequences. I guess nothing really changes throughout monogatari in this regard but Kizu was the first time this attitude of his truly made me rage because I knew how he treats were in Bake even after she went to such lengths for him. She has to RUN away to get his attention in Bake after she tries so hard in Kizu to let him be human again. Seriously Araragi you aren't worthy of Shinobu and Hitagi.
I thought he treats her like that in Bake because she was more "bad" in Kizu. Then when I read what she did it just made me furious at him. You'd think he would learn to use his brain after Kizu but nope he doesn't learn a thing.
Was there a special reason they fought him 1v1? Also I agree with you on a fair amount of points that he is dense and really isn't competent. He mostly wins through pure attrition and the perceived kindness he offers.

It's like a magical girl anime but it feels so much like Madoka...(except maybe a little less dark than madoka). It might turn out just as good though, there's still like 6 episodes left.
nice ill check it out
Twintails ep 5 ....back on track i guess, after pointless ep4. not shaping up to be as solid as Moetan (one thing that you shouldn't forget about Moetan is that is contains lots of extremely stimulating scenes)

So, apparently, they are going to do a digimon anime going back to the roots. I only ever watched the dub a long time back and don't remember much haha. Wonder if it'll be worth it to watch. Anyone else watched this when they were younger?
digimon adventures (in english) is one of the funniest animes, at least season 1 . its a bit like Ghost Stories
When you don't know the context it sounds lewd .. except that she meant this both figuratively and literally at the same time. (i hope she just meant this in a lewd way)
It's giving me ominous feelings that series won't end in a happy note and i don't like it.
The premise of "taking an interest of someone who sees you as food" if i think about it it sounds similar to some kind of random vampire and teenage girl romance story that i usually loathe.
However among other parts of the show whenever they present it this way where the Prey(MC) tango's with the Predator(purple hair girl) and especially when the predator obviously likes the other party but doesn't actually matter when it comes to her stomach.(i surely hope i am wrong) This particular relationship dynamic between this Cheeky-Tanuki and this Sinister Flying Angel(devil) is so awesome.
This are one of the few exceptions where i actually like the premise.
Keep going goody its definitely one of my favorite shows. I'd like to hear your thoughts after episode 6 though, I believe it was episode 6.
Kenshin feels like a mixed bag to me. For like 30 episodes, the anime is kinda really medicore. There are some decent parts, but mostly forgetable. Then all the sudden Saito shows up, and the quality of the show gets so much better. Almost amazing how much of a difference there is pre-Saito and post-Saito.
The scene in Kenshin that stuck with me the most was the final showdown with Shishioh. I thought the cinematography and style of that final part of their fight was great, when it went letterboxed.

It has been getting extremer and extremer and I'd say this last episode has about reached the point where I'd say it's something I don't want to watch in a group ... That's just creepy as fuck to watch together.
haha now I really wonder just how extreme it got Guess I'll find out if I manage to make it to that episode lol.

well yes, I remember enjoying it but that was when I was much younger. Not sure if it'll keep my interest until I give it a try.

Another great episode around Sayumi's character. There's a lot of maturity in this series and I can appreciate that. MC has everything that could be called the "dense harem lead" but there's a lot of intelligence and depth beyond that. Also the twist that sayumi really did just get drowsy. omg. I like how it likes to throw a lot of twists at you while keeping all of them grounded and realistic.
