He's just a idiot, a huge fucking idiot that without Hanekawa's intervention would have killed Kiss-Shot. There were so many moments and clues surrounding her that he ignores in favour of rushing to be human. He has a hero complex but doesn't want to deal with the consequences. I guess nothing really changes throughout monogatari in this regard but Kizu was the first time this attitude of his truly made me rage because I knew how he treats were in Bake even after she went to such lengths for him. She has to RUN away to get his attention in Bake after she tries so hard in Kizu to let him be human again. Seriously Araragi you aren't worthy of Shinobu and Hitagi.
I thought he treats her like that in Bake because she was more "bad" in Kizu. Then when I read what she did it just made me furious at him. You'd think he would learn to use his brain after Kizu but nope he doesn't learn a thing. Its been a while so could you remind me + Show Spoiler +Was there a special reason they fought him 1v1? Also I agree with you on a fair amount of points that he is dense and really isn't competent. He mostly wins through pure attrition and the perceived kindness he offers.
+ Show Spoiler +We aren't ever told why they fight just that they will over the body parts because Shinobu was going to kill herself. I assume it's so they can verify that he does want to become human and see if a servant of Kiss-Shot truly is as big a threat as Oshino thinks. As well as it helping to trick Araragi into helping kill Shinobu. If they just handed over the body parts without any fuss it may have caused him to use his brain. That's also why I think Oshino didn't want to meet Hanekawa as she is not only scary but may have asked all the right questions. That's just my opinion, it may be stated why exactly somewhere else but not sure.

Did you see it when it was airing? If you saw it airing during high school you'd be much older than every1 here.

To clear the confusion. Back then i only saw anime from local tv channels and i actually have no idea when it aired at the time i watched it since I only started watching anime via internet when i was like 1st year or 2nd year high school and the shows that i watched via internet was Naruto and Bleach.

Our educational system is a bit different so we have 6 years elementary school then 4 years high school. IIRC i watched kenshin either the later years of elem school(4th grade or 5th grade ?) or the earlier years or high school(1st yr or 2nd yr)/

Did not watch it when it's aired for sure since i'm still 2 decades alive.
There are some anime that are as old as Doraemon(which was first aired at 1970's) that are still being aired here even last year IIRC. Yes anime that old still being aired in this country from time to time. Even dragon ball(yes fucking dragon ball) gets aired on some of our local channel like every half a year or so. Point is if you don't try to find out what year a certain anime was first aired or you don't know anime news( which i actually didn't religiously try to watch anime series back then) then you have no way of finding out if it's new or old besides looking at it's animation quality. This is assuming that you got no other medium of distribution for anime besides tv channels here.
