Or their inital exposure that they like at the time gets put into context when they delve deeper into the pool of anime. Take gundam wing for example. Sure I thought it was fun when I was like 13 and it was my 1st mecha ever but I went to rewatch it again because I liked it back then and had to stop because it was just wasn't very good anymore after seeing what else is out there.

I gave examples but whatever. She takes the archetype and tries not to deviate one inch from it. The little personality she has is focused on her being the love interest of the main character. Who tried to kill her. Repeatedly. It does not make for an interesting character at all.

Relena thinking back could have been replaced with a cardboard cut out of her that cycled through 4-5 lines surrounding peace and additional 1-2 for Heero when he was around that was dragged from place to place. How he elevates her over Lacus who actually put some action behind her words is beyond me.

One thing that was pretty jarring with Relena was the transition between her tracking down Heero to the Antarctic, jumps into the middle of their fight to deliver a fucking letter, and then next time we see her, shes Queen of Pacifism Land. She has questionable characterization at best.
