Bad manga, and anime is likely bad too, I doubt Gonzo could've made it watchable. Soaring cake girl and Akikan if you like laughs (production value of Akikan is preeeeeetty low). Soaring cake girl is more "wat" than Akikan. Bamboo blade for moe + kendo. TTGL for pure win. It's by Gainax too. Haven't seen most of the rest. Heard sins + birdy are great, but sins doesn't look like something I'd like.

I've had some musical training as well (though I haven't kept up with it for years), and come from a family that's had people in Juilliard and Peabody. My family is a very musical family, so to speak, and as a result, I grew up with it constantly around (though almost exclusively classical). While I don't really play any instruments (just very, very mediocre piano), I think you HAVE to be elitist about music in order for that to distract you that much (yes, I disagree with your SC2 analogy). My cousin is one of your stereotypical Asian teenage classical violinists. She competes (and has placed several times as well in state and national competitions), practices for hours a day, and can't stand people who only think they understand classical music...but still enjoys K-On! with me every week. I don't have as intimate an understanding of guitar as you do (seeing as how I don't play it), I have many friends who do, a couple of which who watch anime as well. One in particular is a classical and jazz guitar double major at a university. He seems to be able to get over K-On!'s lack of realism and still enjoy the show. I don't get why you can't. EDIT Just to be clear...I am like one of the relative musical bad eggs of the family. I unfortunately never took music itself all that seriously until after I'd stopped playing piano. I take it more seriously now, but from a listener's perspective, not a musician's. EDIT2 I only just now took a look at that video you posted of the guy playing "Fuwa Fuwa Time" or whatever the fuck the song's name is...and while I still don't think it should considerably detract from your enjoyment of the show as an anime... I can see a lot more clearly where you're coming from. I never really paid attention to the song (I think it sounds like a bunch of sugary and candied shit), but damn, you're right...that is not really...easy guitaring. In any case, I was taken aback by that, but my point still stands. That's real music written by real musicians for a fictional anime series. The songs fit the mood of the show, and really, you should leave it at that. I could bitch endlessly about shortcomings of recordings from Nodame Cantabile and even Beck's inability to present a "bad" band performance (not to mention the MC's shitty singing)...but I got over it and enjoyed both shows immensely. Just to be clear, I still enjoy K-On! as a show, I'm just venting out one of my few gripes about it. Especially since the "difficult licks" that I'm talking about, are all 5-10 second long segments that are completely unnecessary and add nothing to the music other making Yui seem unrealistic

I kept watching it even though it was bad mech anime for teenage boys. That had fan service and characters with stupid personalities and thought it might become good once the main character's friend died, but it didn't... The fan service was just dumb and the characters were horribly written along with the plot.

Elfen Lied is really good...just...it should've been fucking 26 episodes, not 13. You'll enjoy it, but be pissed that it's so fucking short and nerdrage over the unattained potential. Twenty Faces sucked shit.

Nogizaka Haruka is decent. It's a light-hearted romance, nothing really ground-breaking, but enjoyable nonetheless. Second season is supposed to be coming out soon, too.

I heard Akikan was awful. TTGL is good if you want mindless fun. StrikerS was a massive disappointment/ waste of time.

Just randomly rewatched some of Nadesico after reading some light novels related to it, man that show was such a weird combination of fail and good character.

You are right that Macross Saga and so on was japanese independent stories from the beginning. But I still like the connections they made between: Macross Saga Robotech Masters The New Generation In fact it was the americans who bought the series and without them you wouldn't have the clashes between humans, Zentraedi, Robotech Masters and the Invids. I think there is a total of 90+ episodes. I you are a total Mech fan and like big battles with technology Robotech is highly entertainning series. The latest movie Robotech Shadow Chronicles is taking part after the end of The New Generation but as I said earlier I think it was a big disappoinment. Man they used 3D and shit instead original anime drawing. Looked so cheap.

I'm assuming those are from the other two series they ripped off and stole from...so I guess I would know if I went ahead and watched them. In any case, the Macross universe is interesting enough on its own, even if it has yet to really be fleshed out yet. Yes...I don't count Macross 7 as a legitimate Macross anime.
