+ Show Spoiler + The dramatic moments dont feel appropriate. In SAO I people actually died when shit hit the fan, so I could understand the drama and seriousness of everyone's emotions/actions When Sinon yells at the guy about his honor and not being a pussy over GGO's version of DayZ combat logging I just rofl'ed Its a game, unless people are actually dying in the real world from it, its being way too overly dramatic.

No joke. Everything I've read/watched has had the same base storyline, but I guess it comes with the genre.

Characters were by far the least interesting component of Madoka and the plot relied on a lot of shock value that got old really quickly. I liked everything else about it. Also, I thought Psycho Pass was average. Well, you used word "success" there, so I thought you were speaking about general viewers' reception of both shows, not personal impression. Psycho Pass is considered succesful in that regard, the sales were good despite low budget production, and it will have second seasond handled by Tow Ubukata, so sci-fi concepts should get harder, haha. + Show Spoiler [@Sentenal] + On July 16 2014 06:06 Sentenal wrote: Mecha is a hugely broad genre with tons of different types of shows, with incredibly varying tones, with a matching fanbase to boot. This is the same genre that has titles like GaoGaiGar, Armored Trooper Votoms, and Gundam Build Fighters umbrellaed into the same genre Except all mentioned shows are made by Sunrise who made their entire career making sci-fi mecha shows ( Let's change the sides for once - does this mean for you that mecha show is totally okay if there's nothing actually repulsive and/or offensive? Zeta Gundam doesn't have the actual Zeta Gundam show up until like halfway through the series. ZZ Gundam didn't have the ZZ Gundam show up for a good bit as well, although it was well before the mid-point. it's case of symantics, any Gundam named mech is kind of titular in Gundam show. or Rayearth where mecha don't show up proper until like the last 2 or 3 eps of the first season Does this show has any kind of mecha kits for sail to begin with? It's understandable if not. Then you have stuff like Dancougar where it doesn't show up till like halfway through Wow, can I befriend you for watching original Dancouga?) Speaking as a very big fan of mecha, there isn't anything inherently offensive as a mecha fan in Aldanoah Zero. If a mecha fan does not like it, thats perfectly fine, but saying that all mecha fans should also not like it? Well, the question was about discarding the show as a sci-fi/mecha fan, right? As a person, anyone can enjoy anything at any given moment, and that's totally fine, so I don't see any reason to ask me straight whether I really believe that no one can/should enjoy the show I ferociously bashed for straight 6+ hours all posts combined, because the answer will be "hell, no". Discarding a show might not even mean that show is considered a bloody disaster or anything, it just doesn't do any justice to our beloved regulars. NGE, TTGL, CG S2 and GS-GSD, for example, are discarded by the largest part of /m/ audiience for entirely different reasons (one can deduct that mainsteam popularity=instant bad, haha), but nobody jumps at the gun if he liked the show despite the fact /m/ doesn't like to talk about it in general. In our case, I can't fucking help but notice though that every of those series are miles ahead of Aldnoah.Zero in terms of production value and character work right from the episode one, and have original, not replicated after popular ones, mecha designs, so the given judgement is relatively justified if we agree with general consensus. The little problem with that artifical logical inequation is that such comparison gives Aldnoah zero chance to succeed and that's exactly why no one in the thread wants to buy it, because if I judge the show on its own merit without taking in account creators' acknowledgements, experience, aviable resources, inspirations, similar works, target audience, all that fancy factors I used before - it would be difficult to say much about the subject, except how much I subconsciously liked/disliked it without actually listing the praises/complaints. Basically, I can either go with past experience and current knowledge in hand for objective analysis or try to telegraph my emotional responses relying on a personal preferences - and in my eyes both ways obviously suck for discussion, there should be some sort of balance. Therefore, the question about how justified such quality judgements can be isn't depended on a taste issues per say, despite many people thinking that way, but rather on a general approach towards discussion itself. That's why my 'reviews' may come as a overgeneralised and nitpicking much, when it wasn't really the purpose itself (because trying to establish and impose the order of intangible things at Web leads absolutely nowhere), but barely the means of prioritizing the addition of non-trivial information into the "pot", which should theoretically benefit all the participants. Heck, the only reason I started it in a first place, it's the idea of improvement. It's not like I try to downgrade every show I've unfortunately watched or something, right? On July 16 2014 07:14 Sentenal wrote: On one hand, you talk about Akame ga Kill and the studio that made it, and that studio's past work. And then, with Aldnoah( Zero, instead of talking about the studio, you start talking about the Director? KnK and F/Z were both made by Ufotable. Its almost unfair to compare the visuals of any anime to one of those, unless its like something from KyoAni or a really high budget Sunrise project like Gundam Unicorn. Aoki is the head of TROYCA studio, which afaik consists of AIC's and I.G's past employees, and AZero is their first project up to date.
