Just recommend him like, Code Geass, Attack on Titan, etc. Then once you have him in your favor, get him to watch good stuff like Black Lagoon and HxH. Then recommend him One Piece and watch him say he won't watch it because of art, but bug him about it for a couple years until he finally gives in then thanks you for the rest of his life for recommending him the best shounen anime on this beautiful blue earth. | ||

Uhhh...Baccano and Cowboy Bebop and FLCL are just as accessible as anime as CG/AoT/Black Lagoon and HxH. They're certainly not high brow, and if the guy is white then the former two will appear to his murican blood, along with Trigun or something but I haven't watched that so no comment. Liking Naruto doesn't mean anything about what you may or may not like. CG/AoT still good choices though. Just saying the afforementioned choices are fine. | ||

As someone who has dealt with these kinds of people for over ten years, I can say that for certain. The biggest and most common mistake you people make are just recommending shit you think are good without any regard to the other person's experiences with anime or his tastes. Then when they say they don't like something you shit on them. Please. | ||

I imagine if the person in question has watched or read anything in his life there are plenty of mainstream things that are more of a "mindfuck" or "weird" than either of the two. Cowboy Bebop is one of the most critically acclaimed anime out of non-anime watchers out there. Also, you probably don't know me very well if you think I'm recommending Baccano and Cowboy Bebop because I think they're good. I most certainly did not like either of them. | ||
