The "novel adaption"? I liked the anime, but the LN is better in some ways. Oops. I meant the source. I thought the novel was inferior in almost every way. Iono, maybe the translation was bad, but there was nothing in the novel that wasn't covered + done better in the anime. *shrug*
But that's wrong. Some good parts from the novel weren't covered (plus some minor things like leaving out his drug abuse, though that's to be expected), and the anime had anime-original stuff that was mediocre at best and dragged on for too long.

Personally, I didn't think there were that many good parts in the novel to begin with. Again, I only read the translation, but the entirety of the novel was just a poorly written (or translated) mess. I found the prose to be pretty boring, and iirc sometimes too flowery for no reason, and it didn't help that the voice was just super awkward in English.
None of the characters had any of the charm or intrigue that existed in the anime, and I think the dark comedy works better when you can see and hear what the characters do and hear. In addition, I actually think it's fine to leave out stuff like drug abuse, especially since it's such a common trope, and I think Satou's psyche is much wackier and unique when some general problem like drug abuse isn't part of the equation.

As for watching parts, it usually happens when I'm deciding on what to watch so I might skip through an episode of an anime to see if I would like it. In some cases, I might end up watching a portion of it that way lol.

And against these guys, you have the most blatant Char Clone to ever Char Clone, and a guy who takes bathes in roses while masturbating about how beautiful battle is, while memorizing the name of every single person/mook who dies throughout the entire series. EDIT: read your blog. Well, every time I see someone saying Zeta Gundam is the best Gundam show ever I get a little nervous, because I actually watched Zeta and I didn't quite like it.
I actually kind of dislike the UC shows. I only watched two, Zeta and Unicorn... Unicorn was passable for me; Zeta, on the other hand, was.... meh. Perhaps Zeta Gundam gave me this really bad first impression as Kamile did all sorts of weird things at the beginning of the show and got his parents killed (comparably, Heero gave me the same impression Ep1-6, but at least he didn't get anyone else important killed yet. YET.).

The first episode or two of Zeta did bother me, but after a while the pacing, story, and battles more than made up for all the wonky dialogue and crazy people in the show (something which Gundam Wing can't boast of). And plus, I'd rather there actually be consequences for people doing stupid things (as with Kamille), rather than no consequence because of plot armor, like with Heero.
