this pretty much. The anime's still awesome for what it is (takao :3) but it's kind of hard to say anything about anything else. Especially if the explanation of the "developement" we get in the anime is reduced to "omfg I met this cute little girl 24 hours ago, we played some, I found out she developed a weapon that could kill us all and her dad asked me to be her friend. Let's leave the fleet that can destroy pretty much anything on the planet and is probably (still?) able to locate me and join their enemies instead, yolo"

I can understand if you're someone who read the manga and are unhappy with the direction they are going. At the same time, since they seem to be going an anime original role, there is a possibility to discuss some of the developments and speculate on how things will go. well, what if I said that Haruna might have identified with Makie's situation so both the promise and the identification led to her leaving the fleet? I know, not the best explanation and needs more details as to how she identified seeing as Haruna isn't exactly human but it's some other less detailed explanation for the situation lol.

But there's nothing for them to elaborate on. All the complexity of the manga has been boiled down to "ships are people too!" The manga had politics to keep things interesting, but the anime saw fit to get rid of all that.

It's an incredibly lazy way of exploring their motivations. It also kills the pace of the fights themselves, as they keep trying to cut back and forth between the two.

I know, not the best explanation and needs more details as to how she identified seeing as Haruna isn't exactly human but it's some other less detailed explanation for the situation lol. hmm good point. I have no clue about the manga or the politics aspect of it or the complexities so can't say just how much they cut out although it does sound like quite a bit. I think they are trying too hard to fit this into 1 cour or so which is why they made such drastic changes. I keep on reading that they cut out a lot of good stuff and moved lines between characters. I would've preferred 2 cour seeing as if I'm enjoying it now, it can only get better if things are more explored and of course, more moe boats lol
Isn't there like 3-4 more episodes left(1 cour is 12 or so) at max? hehe ya, + Show Spoiler +they totally killed the Takao vs Maya fight in that last episode since they kept switching between them even though I'm guessing it was just a standoff anyways so it was boring to see. Same with the tension between Kongo and Iona although it's understandable why she tried to talk to her.

If they sticked to the manga plot it would have been a lot better. The stuff they got now going is okay, it isn't particular good but there is worse things out there.
