In all seriousness...
Almost no fansubbers (there are fringe cases) bother to translate anything that is simulcast by CR or Funimation these days. Its just not worth the time or effort.
This is why there's always 5 awful groups competing over whatever harem series of the season CR isn't simulcasting.

Please forgive my sins, Lord. Meh, CrunchyRoll sucks anyway. You have no clue what you are talking about, lol. The translations taken from official streams are both accurate (enough such that tons of "fansubbers" just rip and edit them for different levels of weeabooness), and extremely fast. There isn't really any reason to complain about CR. Actually I take that back, I guess if you want to be a stubborn hipster, there is reason to complain about CR. I don't know why I keep doing this, but you know us stubborn hipsters, can't stop fighting man. Okay, so, let's look at CR here. I'll just use 3 random animes from my list. Sayonara Zetsubou - a great comedy that is full of references and need VERY good translation. But after searching our beloved CR, I could not find it! Ohno! Tatami Galaxy - one of the only good slice-of-life romances made. I imagine translating the narration can be annoying since it's so incredibly fast, but subgroups did quite well! Unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found on CR. A shame! Mushishi - a very interesting supernatural fantasy anime, and also one which is quite popular. It is not actually filled with that much speech either. It's too bad CR doesn't have it. Now, CR may have Naruto or Bleech, and many other REALLY popular ones subbed, but it lacks SO many others. I do not think that any of the material CR does is bad, or anything, I just do not see why anyone would use it. I literally picked 3 random animes out of my mind and searched for them on CR. But, OMG, they weren't there. So, you know what I did? I went and torrented them. After finding out how good Sayonara and Mushishi were, I -HAD- to buy some merchandise/DVDs for them, because I loved both series quite a bit. I just recently finished Tatami Galaxy (guess it wasn't that random since it was clearly on my mind) but really liked it. I knew it'd be good since it was by the same guy as Kaiba, which was an amazing anime. I -HAD- to buy the wicked soundtrack for Kaiba, but could never find it. But, I DID come across a DVD for it! So there you go. So, not only do subgroups have to do the subtitles themselves for animes that never got subbed, but they do a really great job for many of the currently airing ones. Maybe they copy CR or someone for the currently airing animes, but there's no way of proving that every group does it. CR is mostly a tool to watch and support anime recently airing. Those are older more niche anime..especially mushishi lol. You arent going to buy a good legit copy of any recent anime for english speakers that soon until its licences elsewhere or you want to pay a shit load more.

You can find Mushishi (dub and sub) on Funimation's Youtube Channel. Don't think you can find the other two, but I'm assuming you'd mind watching Mushishi there as opposed to pirating it?

That may very well be with currently airing anime. I have never checked to see if they are just copied from CR, and if they are edited ever-so-slightly, then I suppose we won't know for sure.
Had I known that people would take such great offense to me suggesting torrents instead of CR, I wouldn't have made the comment. Now, I do not support torrenting every single thing and never buying any of it, but I have no problem with people watching a series from a torrent and then going out and buying the Japanese boxset or something.
Of course you cannot buy any of the currently airing material, especially in English, so if you want to support the airing shows, go get CR and enjoy. I also wouldn't have gone through such effort with my posts if I had known that CR no longer subs older material (even though all the older material is far better than the modern stuff). So, I apologize for arguing over CrunchyRoll.
@above Well if it's in 720, or even 480, then sure, youtube works just as well as any torrent. I use adblock + anyway, so they actually wouldn't get much money from me watching it, but I have a boxset and JP artbook, so I've supported the series more than most =/.

I find that CR has good translations most of the time, with some exceptions + Show Spoiler + For example this season their subs for Shin Sekai Yori weren't as good as the fansubs, most people watched fansubs anyways
On an unrelated note, did anybody watch Zetsuen no Tempest this season? I'm considering picking it up.
|
I've seen all but the final episode (it's out right now though). I'd consider it above average, but it is nothing amazing. At some parts, you feel like it really has something going and it's all going to tie together really well, but when the time comes, you feel like it was just sort of half-assed. Some of the plot was barely thought out and at a few points in the anime, it doesn't really make sense.
I personally (and so far) would give it a 7/10. Your favorite character will be Aika by the way. You would probably like the show if you liked Shin Sekai, not that they have all that much in common. Tempest and Psycho Pass were the only two anime I thought were worth the watch this past season, though.
Again, I have yet to watch the final episode, but I honestly doubt they will somehow make me change my rating of it by more than 1 or 2.

It's really good- a bit frontloaded with information and worldbuilding but once you get into it I'd say it's one of, if not the best, then one of the best of that season.
+ Show Spoiler [final ep] +Bit of a deus ex machina with the Exodus sword but I guess there wasn't really any other way for Hanemura to beat the Tree. Pretty funny shirt rip when he throws it lol. Last 5 seconds though... leaving quite a bit to the imagination Aika still confirmed for best character with that post-mortem video message haha

01:48 ecael so I haven't read the tempest for over 10 years 01:48 ecael but what I remember of it 01:48 ecael has 0 resemblence 01:48 ecael to this butchery 01:48 aers lol 01:48 ecael anyone more informed to tell me that I am wrong? 01:48 ecael at that 01:48 KazeHydra is it actually 01:48 aers eca is my favorite original source elitist 01:49 KazeHydra supposed to be similar? 01:49 ecael anyone more informed to tell me that the random shakespeare quoting is supposed to be anything? 01:49 KazeHydra i thought just random quotes 01:49 KazeHydra to be DEEP 01:49 ecael according to mangaka 01:49 ecael it was supposed t o be based 01:49 ecael on the tempest 01:49 KazeHydra but 01:49 ecael and random quotes is just a part of that 01:49 KazeHydra it's not even remotely 01:49 KazeHydra close
So anyone, go for it.
edit - looks like most articles stopped at just saying the "tempest" from zetsuen no tempest is supposed to be in reference to the Shakespearean play. That said, the random quotations are still just meaningless.

Well I haven't read the Tempest but from the sound of things it doesn't seem like its worth going through 24 episodes .

I havent read The Tempest in just about as long and I dropped Zetsuen but from what I did see, the only similarity was trapped on an island

Oh god Hyakka Ryouran xD I still can't believe that's getting a second season.

+ Show Spoiler [boku wa tomodachi next] + Could have had a better ending. Rika's part was nice and Yukimura is confirmed for wanting Kodaka's dick. Ending deal with Sena was a cop-out, and Yozora running away was pretty odd. Overall still enjoyed it though, and it seems like they're aiming for a third season, which is nice.

I think the development for Kodaka was hopefully a step towards him being less EH NANDATTE and maybe making some decisions every so often.
And they're definitely making a third season, I've heard the next light novel was only just released so we'll have to see what that contains. I hope Yozora stops being mental and Sena wins.

After checking out CR, it seems like I who live in Sweden have about the same issues as ZenithM mentioned (some swede correct me if this critique is unfounded), so I'll probably skip it. I do have a question, how much does buying merchanize (say, figurines etc) help the industry? So far the only thing I've paid for when it comes to anime, manga etc is the second vol of Zaregoto, which isn't very much... and it would be fun to have something like that.
Pandora Hearts 82:
+ Show Spoiler +Ouch, Oscar. Sad to get killed by your own brother, but the scene with his wife was pretty good ;_;
Alice is back though, I've been waiting for that.

Ya anyone tho can cherry pick anime from years back and say its better than the current anime. But then your also ignoring all the garbage from those years also but noone thinks about the garbage. 90% of anime will be bad at a given time and a few gems will will come. I can say Space Brothers, Kaiji, Fate Zero and Penguin drum were way better than the older anime but that would be dumb wouldent it? I have no problem people tormenting. Its just when you spread info that is clearly wrong out to people that a problem. CR subs are solid and most popular fansubbers use it as thier base. CR is doing a admiral and progressive job in the industry and they do it pretty fucking well. If you cant admit that you are an idiot..

+ Show Spoiler +I was really hoping for Rika and Kodaka to get together, but it looks like Rika is in the same situation as Kodaka. Also, I think we know what Yozora is doing. When she played that game Rika brought in, she got kinda sad when she only focused on one guy. I expect she'll be trying to get more friends around school now.

It's actually quite enjoyable and better than most generic harem. I'd watch 2nd season though it's not exactly following the novel.
Now if I make a harem show list
Utawarerumono Bakemonogatari (+ everything followed) SHnY Vandread Clannad Kanon School Rumble Bento Ai Yori Aoshi Tenchi Muyo Hayate Baka Test Kore wa Zombie
(Old stuff: Urusei Yatsura) (Reverse: Fruit Basket, Ouran Host, Hanasakeru Seishounen) (Yuri: Marimite, Aria, Utena)
