It's on so many recommendation charts. Maybe I missed something. Maybe because it's friggin awesome? I think you just got too focused on "inserting" and complaining about how "pathetic" Takumi is. I personally found him really amusing and interesting as an MC, no need for insertion. Easily one of my favourite VNs, probably second or third. To be honest, the Okabe in chapter 1 of S;G was arguably worse than Takumi was all game, he just didn't have much chance to go on with his antics because Kurisu entered the picture so fast. Okabe wasn't a pathetic, delusional, selfish loser with tons of disgusting defense mechanisms. I've grown to like Takumi since then but I still don't understand how you can value C;H so highly. Also, how can you say I was focused on inserting >.< I said it was happening automatically and tried not to do it. But hearing the same delusions over and over and having to read the inner thoughts of somebody like that wasn't really a good experience. The game itself was okay, the mystery, that is. I didn't see the important twists coming + Show Spoiler +Specifically, I didn't see it coming that Takumi was just a delusion himself. That was pretty good. I think I saw Ban getting betrayed by his partner coming. I didn't see Grim being the killer coming.
So yeah, the game itself was pretty good. I'll admit that I was looking forward to a lot of the reveals. + Show Spoiler +Who was grim, who was the real killer, when Takumi would finally man the fuck up and go MC mode, etc. I even said that I finished the game in 3 sittings, it's weird. I really don't know how to describe my feelings for this game. It's like I want to bash it but deep down I kinda liked it. You could say I'm being tsundere towards it. I sort of also wish the game was scarier, but I guess that's the fault of the medium. I get really scared watching horror movies.
|
That's weird because reading (VN and stuff like Stephen King) affect me much more than movies. I've known to creep friends out for laughing during horror movies.
I'm pretty sure people are more affected by books than movies in general.

What VN scared you the most? I've already seen higurashi, though. It might just be that VNs aren't particularly scary to me, because it's text on a screen, but I don't know.

Saya no Uta comes to mind as the most horrifying thing i've played but even then it wasn't scary as much as shocking.

I wouldn't say horrifying or scary in my case, but Kara no Shoujo gave off a great atmosphere.

TBH VN don't scare me much, but I feel more emotionally involved with them than with movies.
The book that scares me the most I think was IT by Stephen King. Pennywise the clown still scares the crap out of me.

Really? As "shocking" as Saya no Uta may have been, I don't quite see why would you would do that.

G Sen is the most horrifying VN I've ever read. The way the last part of that VN butchered everything was scary as hell.

Finished LoGH. Starting with the two movies was great and really made me hyped for the rest of the series, and it was great from start to finish. One thing I really liked was that there were so many good characters, not only were the main characters great but so many of the supporting characters were also likeable or interesting. Also, I really liked the relationships/plot between them, for example Mittermeyer and Reuental, among others. I even ended up liking Oberstein, with his cold rationality, and I really disliked him a lot for a long while.
I'm really satisfied with the last episode too, + Show Spoiler +I knew it couldn't end with Reinhard being alive. Reinhard's, Kircheis' and Yang's deaths were all really sad moments, Yang's moreso. Julian's suffering there was heartbreaking. Also, as mentioned before, I never thought I would, but I was even sad at Oberstein's death. His only friend was that dog. Cheers to awesome supporting characters like Poplan and Schenkopp. Even Kessler got a moment where he was really badass.
edit: if there's anything I disliked, it was + Show Spoiler +the thing with bombs going off at Heinessen when Rubinsky died. That felt pretty "meh" to me.

If you want even more LoGH, there are two more Gaiden series out there waiting for you, 50~ episodes in all. Its all stuff that happened prior to the first movie, but its all good stuff, showing Reinhard and Yang rise up through the ranks. And alot more Kircheis stuff, too. You should check them out sometime.
