I learned the alphabet (hiragane/katakana) by using memrise.com. It's still a very good site, I liked the old version more though. I also picked up alot of basic vocabulary there. I'm learning kanji with the help of imiwa? app (seriously get this app, it's so unbelievably helpful). Other than that I'd advise you to join some kind of course because a person fluent in japanese will be able to explain alot of things to you (you will need explanation). Part of it might have to do with how scarce materials are for psycho horror, especially on the translated side. At least far as I can recall, if we want vn/eroges of that kind, before C;H we were basically looking in stuff from the 90s. There is also the fact that the game itself is pretty good even with the protagonist like that. Lastly where else will we find Nanami and her illusion of a ton of right hands and drawing sword by bleeding out of her...right hand? lol | ||

I think you just got too focused on "inserting" and complaining about how "pathetic" Takumi is. I personally found him really amusing and interesting as an MC, no need for insertion. It's Nitro+, pretty much everything they did get recommended. Most are warranted though. And TBH, C;H is a decent enough VN to warrant rec, there are alot worse crap out there, but if you only go by the work that got translated, you won't really come across them. | ||

To be honest, the Okabe in chapter 1 of S;G was arguably worse than Takumi was all game, he just didn't have much chance to go on with his antics because Kurisu entered the picture so fast. | ||
