i'm looking for some specific recommendations, for which i feel the chart mentioned above the thread is not specific enough. I've watched quite anime in different genres. I really dislike going into genres, especially because i'm not comfortable using them. At the moment i'm looking for some absurd, slice of life kindof serie, without a very deep storyline. To give some examples of what i liked, here is the following list (in chronological order of watching), with some commentary to maybe specify what i'm looking for: gintama: absolute favorite ever, absurd episodes/very small arcs with sometimes a (quasi-)serious ending. Parodic elements are great as well. I'm not too good at recognising them, though. joshiraku: didn't get some of the jokes, but really liked the overall concept of people discussing a random subject going in random directions. nichijou: loved the artwork accenting some of the more absurd dialogues or events. lucky star, azumanga daioh
These are of course not nearly all anime i've watched, but i've mentioned the ones i thought to be relevant. Is there anyone who thinks there are some good suggestions? Unfortunately, i am very picky, so chances are i don't like it at all, but i'll watch at least a few episodes of suggested anime to be sure.

Why does the big blond alien know about kurono again? lol I feel like it was mentioned before but I can't recall

Oops. You said absurd.
Arakawa Under the Bridge is pretty hit or miss, but I think it might suit your taste if you liked the above. Maybe Ika-Musume?
Haha, i've watched all those 3 already. I liked k-on and did not like ika-musume. Sorry for not mentioning them, something like Arakawa Under the Bridge should definitely be what i'm looking for, although it was a bit extreme (don't really know what word to use; maybe inaccessible is a better word). I should've listed at least arakawa, i forgot all about it. Maybe i should try a rewatch.

Good to hear. I definitely like the series so far, and I can't wait to get more into it.
Only disappointment is that (for the dub) they had 3 different VAs for Sailor Moon (I like having consistent VAs for characters).
I got a really really good first impression from the first VA (Tracey Moore) for Sailor Moon, so I think I'll miss her once I get into the episodes with the next VA (Terri Hawkes, then Linda Ballantyne).
Well I finally got into the episodes with Terri Hawkes (then episode 15 with Tracey again woot!). I definitely miss Tracey Moore.
I haven't gotten into the more serious parts of Sailor Moon (or when Serena herself becomes more serious and more mature), so Terri Hawkes may have potentially be better than Tracey Moore but I think Tracey has potential too in the serious parts (she has a good deep sounding voice when in Sailor Moon form).
I was reading comments and this is a good way of describing Tracey:
She was a beautiful voice *actress* who played the part, rather than letting the material play her. And as far as tone goes, she had the sweetest and most natural young sound like the Original Japanese actress.
She definitely did sound sweet and really natural. Not only that, but her voice is really really distinct and unique (I haven't really heard anything like her voice before). The main unique feature about her voice is that it's high and soft and a bit "squeaky" "but" at the same time, it sounds very natural and sweet (a lot of dubs make everyone sound deep or soft but rarely high + soft at the same time).
Also, she does the "crazy sounding" voice really well (Serena in episode 1 when she's late for school). (The most unique part of her voice really comes out when Serena is sounding crazy or when she is talking fast.)
Finally when she needs to, Tracey can really pull off a good deep voice for Serena/Usagi (when in her Sailor Moon for example).
It's not the stereotypical voice for a girl, Tracey really pulled it off for Sailor Moon IMO.
To compare - I'd say Misty's English voice in Pokemon is soft but not really high or "squeaky sounding". May's voice, by Veronica Taylor (who also does Ash) is a little high at times but not really "soft sounding" (actually I'm not sure if that's a good way to describe May's voice). Besides that, I also randomly watched a few anime dubs and nearly most of the girls either have a deep sounding voice, or it's just "soft" or "high" but nothing similar to soft + high voice of Tracey's IMO.
Terri's voice is noticeably deeper (though not in Sailor Moon form) and it doesn't have the same sweet tone of voice as Tracey's voice .
I actually watched the Japanese voice (Kotono Mitsuishi) to compare to, and I like Tracey's better (though of course, I don't understand any Japanese and I did watch the English version first). (Speaking of Japanese vs English, I definitely like the English music better. Even though there are like a dozen different instrumental versions of the same English Sailor Moon opening theme, each one really fits the scene and it doesn't actually get old.)
I guess the main reason is Kotono Mitsuishi (VA for Sailor Moon) sounds a lot similar to voices I heard in Japanese dubs before (not that I don't like the voice but it's just I heard a lot of similar stuff in other anime and games before). Edit - After listening to her voice a few more times, actually it is fairly unique too (haven't heard any similar Japanese voices).
If they do a new Sailor Moon in English (new Sailor Moon reboot out in 2013?), they should get Tracey Moore or someone like her IMO.
It's not that I don't like Terri Hawkes but it's just (again) I find that Tracey Moore really pulled off a unique sounding high + soft + a bit squeaky voice for Serena (it's a type of voice that I have rarely ever heard before, at least in English dubs; in Japanese dubs, it's more common). I said this in my previous post but I like it when a character gets a really unique voices, it makes them really distinct and memorable, and it makes the character more alive.
Here's the VA comparison between the three English VAs: (While both Tracey and Terri's Sailor Moon voice sounds similar, their non-transformed Serena/Usagi voices sound much noticeably different):
Linda (the third VA for Sailor Moon) doesn't really fit her at all (she is a good VA, it's just her voice doesn't really fit Sailor Moon >.<).
Also here's one more scene of Tracey Moore as Serena/Usagi: (At 10 minutes, 22 seconds, you can hear Serena say "this contest is going to be major boss, Luna!" which is one of those things that makes Serena a fun character in the dub.) (I linked the video to when Serena is scared + talking fast, which is when you can really hear the uniqueness of Tracey's voice. At 17:30 minutes is when Tracey does her deeper voice for Sailor Moon, and also when the battle starts.)
Really epic voice IMO. Anyway, that was a long post just talking about the VAs. The VAs (especially one of the title character) are important, so I must totally make lengthy post about her VAs!
