Also, if Harem/Kona slack off, feel free to PM me stuff that needs editting into the OP.
@Choubacca: Start with the link in the mod note at the top. If you are looking for guidance on more recent releases, have a look back the past few pages. Been some good discussion there. Well, harem and kona are too lazy to update the OP ever, so it's been showing 11/12 winter chart for the past year instead of the 12/13 winter chart lol. Ikr? Can someone PM the latest chart?
Ahhh that's kinda my fault also. I told harem I would give him a new OP but we've both been lazy about it.

Ixion Saga is one of the stupidest shows I've watched, but I like it. It's supposed to be dumb humor making fun of anime tropes and the series definitely seems to be a love or hate thing.

I find myself enjoying the soundtrack a lot, as I rarely listen to that type of music. So, the empire is based on Germany (Valkyries! Blitzkrieg! I can't help but love those names/words for some reason), whereas the Alliance is basically like... every other country. I really like that the technology isn't ridiculously futuristic, or, well, futuristic but still simple. Like, a physical magazine that has a hologram on each page, etc. + Show Spoiler +Anyway, now that Yang Wenli isn't stuck in the "tells good strategy to his commander but the commander is retarded and goes ahead with A-move" phase, it'll be very interesting to follow the series. The Empire is more Prussian, but in general they represent a monarch/autocracy, while the Alliance represents Democracy, and explores the virtues of both types.

For anyone who's looking for something cute and funny (not really moe like K-On/Lucky Star/etc.), check out Gakuen Alice! I just rewatched it and it's quite entertaining. It's not "great" by any means, but the cast is amazing and it's enjoyable.

Look at the very top of this page (it also happens to be on the top of every page of the thread). It contains a mod note you should perhaps read. Both what to watch and where to get them are answered in it.

FMA Brotherhood is. It was prolly one of the easiest 50 episode series I have ever watched. That and Cross Game.

I guess you could watch the Original. I havent, so I cant judge it fairly. But majority of ADT will tell you that they found Brotherhood better. The difference between the two is that Brotherhood follows the manga ending, while Original makes its own anime ending.

It's hard to say, watching the original first might affect your enjoyment of brotherhood (which would be a waste). But watching brotherhood first might affect your enjoyment of original (it did for me, I didn't enjoy original nearly as much). I'd say start with brotherhood. Then months/years later when you're completely out of the FMA setting, watch original.

The original not? While the original isn't bad, I would say a majority of people think Brotherhood is better. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. They both open the same, and after a certain point, the original goes off on an anime-original path/ending, while Brotherhood follows the manga. I feel the original handled the early episodes better, however I also feel the anime-original stuff was notably worse than how Brotherhood went.
I'd recommend watching Brotherhood. The original is worth a watch, but I wouldn't watch them both within a small time frame. If you watch one, wait a year or so before you decide to watch the other.

That is... quite terrifying.

Hey guys! I'm wondering if any of you guys have suggestions for fairly popular manga that have pretty interesting plot and/or characters. I'm trying to use manga to sharpen my rudimentary German skills because the phrases are usually straightforward and the pictures help reinforce my memory. I'm also pretty sure that only fairly popular and mainstream series have German scanlations readily available so my choices are constrained by that. However, I haven't been particularly impressed by the plot or characters of most popular manga I've encountered in other languages =(
I recently caught up to the mid 100s of Magi in Spanish because the anime looked interesting. It turned out pretty enjoyable for me, if that provides any sort of directions for recommendations as I was pretty vague. Pretty fun light read with some memorable characters. I tried really hard to look for Rose of Versailles but could only find paper copies and no scanlations =(
All suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!

DID I HEAR FMA?
As always, I shall stand up to the mainstream and recommend the original over Brotherhood. This time I am going to tryhard, so I win for once. It's tough being 2v15.
I feel that original handles the start a LOT better than Brotherhood. Brotherhood kinda throws you in quite a bit in, and then shows you a few flashbacks. Original itself starts a bit in, then goes back to the very beginning. It explains almost everything you need to know, and fleshes out characters that are more relevant earlier in the story while I feel Brotherhood kinda just lets things roll on.
But that is one of the things I liked about Brotherhood. The journey itself was very cool since you get to see a lot more of the universe and when it splits it has really cool character additions (Major General Armstrong ,Lan Fan and Buccaneer) and some characters get more relevant (Mustang and his cronies.)
The big problem for me though is that halfway you know exactly where the hell this is going and it just kills the series completely for me. It just crumbles down to boring shounen ending which sucks when Brotherhood's strenght was other characters than Ed getting a lot of attention and badassery+ Show Spoiler [big spoiler] +
Now, in Original. The big thing when it splits is that the "bad guys" are more than just BAD GUYS HUU HUU. They're actually crazy bad guys like bad guys should be, and they actually have cool backstories (I guess Pride's story in Brotherhood is kinda good though, and Gluttony's + Show Spoiler +Sadly he is still just a moe little meatblob in the end. is super cool). Some people hate a lot on the "twist"to the original, but I think it worked out a lot better than Brotherhood because there was still a lot of suspense and most of it was shrouded in mystery until the last handful of episodes.
I guess if you lean towards more generic shounen stuff check out Brotherhood. But if mystery or more grimmer themes are your thing, I hope you can see the light and choose original! :D But at least check the 4th OP of Brotherhood (Period) if you do pick Original. It's the second coolest thing about it imo, after Hawkeye badassery.
