I have no problem give it a 6, and if people want give it a 7, go ahead. It's when people think it's greatest thing ever since Code Geass that drive me nuts.

We are just trying to keep the universe in balance. If a terrible show gets alot of praise, in order to keep physics working properly, it has to receive a proportional amount of hate to counter-act the misplaced praise.

Anime is pretty wack for the most part. Some shows have something to say (logh) or create a unique universe (fate~) but most of this stuff gets by on being pretty and badass. When that works its pretty good, but alot of the time its kind of redundant. Anime might be serious business, but lets be real - its much more Justin Bieber than Stanley Kubrick. I mean most of the discussion here is about what girl or robot suit is prettier... I love it, but it just makes it seem pathetic when you apply an elitist attitude

So does the hate of SAO extend to Accel World too given the similar premise and same author? I enjoyed them both, but I also enjoy mainstream anime.

AW is tons better than SAO, despite flying pig MC. Most people here don't hate mainstream anime... just bad ones. Cowboy Bebop, FMA, FMP, GiTS, FZ, Nanoha, Bakemonogatari etc are fine (though taste vary).

I hated AW mainly cause of flying pig MC, and that Chiyu bitch, and Taku. I liked the actual SAO world, not so much the story within it, and ALO was stupid because of how much Kirito cheats. The level 75 boss in SAO looked badass.

The anime somehow managed to skip the all-so-important fact that the entire series is about how good Kirito is at cheating and beating the system.
