AnimeNewsNetwork and MyAnimeList probably I think the most informative Eng forum is animesuki, unless you want brave into 4chan and reddit/r/anime, but generally it's not all that hot IMOH

I need a some recommendations for animés worth checking out. I stumbled upon this thread by coincidence. I have actually been searching for some animé that would suit me. I am not really a manga/animé guy - I didn't watch pokémon or DBZ when I was young, but my friendgroup got me watching Naruto and I thoroughly enjoyed 1st season. After this good experience I've been checking out various other stuff but most of them can't catch me:
+ Show Spoiler + - Gurren Lagann - Rurouni Kenshin - Elfen Lied - Monster
I did however enjoy some of the more puzzling animés like Death Note (after being carpet-bombed with plugging by Artosis) and Bakemonogatari. Other than that I also ejoyed the grand adventure style stories like Naruto (Fairy Tail also isn't too painful). I think I'd prefer the more adult-stuff (not anything pervy/furry though - I know it's out there ) with violence and deaths.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I would really like to give animé another shot!

A good friend of mine recommended full metal alchemist as his favourite show. I watched and liked it, but I think it might have been to silly for me. I actually might revisit this sometime, though.

I have actually watched Cowboy Bebop the whole way through and really liked it. I guess it is impossible to find any adventure-style animés completely without the silly - but Cowboy Bebop kept it to a minimum with a story that was strong enough to carry itself. Jolly good show.

Fate/Zero er helt klart hvad du skal se.

F/Z is good but eh...there are better things that got rec'd imo.
Out of the ones rec'd I strongly support:
Legend of the Galactic Heroes Kaiji Denpa teki na Kanojo Darker than Black Black Lagoon
Bebop is overrated as hell, and FMA Original is vastly superior to Brotherhood, especially considering the anime you listed that you enjoyed. Brotherhood takes out a lot of enjoyable parts from the original, not counting that the plot is different (didnt have issue with plot)
Edit:
Some other ones that I think would work:
Casshern Sins Ergo Proxy Paranoia Agent
or just pick a Madhouse show at random. :p just works as well.

Just pick a Madhouse show at random? Btooom and HotD, rofl.
But yeah they've done a lot of good stuff.
|
?
BTOOOM! is decent aside from the girl being a massive bitch.
HotD I will agree on, but c'mon. They've got so much other good things that if he gets HotD it's just karma for liking Bebop.:D

Well I mean both shows are decent if you want action + boobage (less so in Btooom, I found it to be quite comedic in HotD at times though). But, eh, I had to mention them just because :D. Black Lagoon remains one of my absolute favorites however, so nothing wrong with Madhouse.
