Plot and Settings from wikipedia: Katanagatari is the story of Yasuri Shichika, a swordsman that fights without a sword, and Togame, an ambitious strategist that seeks to collect twelve legendary swords for the shogunate. The son of an exiled war hero, Yasuri Shichika is the seventh head of the Kyotoryuu school of fighting and lives on isolated Fushou Island with his sister. At a request from the female general Togame, Shichika and Togame set out on a journey across Edo-era Japan to collect the twelve Deviant Blades. 12 episodes of 50 minutes... I really liked the story and characters. also, fighting against swords using bare-hands is pretty cool.

Since Sent wrote in the NGE thread that Rebuild was a bit better, I went ahead and watched the first rebuild film. Should I have watched the whole original series before doing so (or before watching the rest of the rebuild films) or is it fine if I just stick to the rebuild movies? I would watch the original since its hinted pretty heavily that the rebuild series is a direct sequel to the original. Alot of references you probably wont get unless you seen the original and EoE. But watching just the first rebuild movie is a fine substitute for the first 6 or so episodes of the show. Rebuild 2.0 goes completely off the track

Rebuild is completely watchable without having watched the original series. The first movie is more or less a prettier retelling of the first half of the TV series, but the 2nd goes on its own plot. Anyway, once I read the description I'm convinced I've seen a live action series like that. 85% sure it was live action-.

Alot short story mixed in though so it's worth the read.

So basically it's original story starting where the anime ended? Hm, worth reading? I'll finish the LN:s first regardless, though. On another note, the latest Psycho-Pass episode reminded me of Kara no Shoujo, lol.

It adapts starting from Ending Day by Day (the stuff that made up The Second Raid), and then more or less follows the LNs. I don't think its finished yet, but it should be getting close to Always, Stand By Me (the last LN). Although iiirc, Sigma didn't include Dancing Very Merry Christmas.
