Noein is like 5 years old or something, maybe a little more, you can find torrents easily. As for DDLs, I have no idea. I use a private FTP server, that has pretty much ever series ever subbed, so I dunno where other people find stuff. I don't use torrents because I have a phobia of viruses.. Got a few from them, don't particularly enjoy reformatting my computer to get rid of them. DDLs from fansub groups have been pretty reliable thus far.
-_-;
Fansub groups typically seed/track their own torrents as well, which tend to be more long lasting than their DDL links

I recently watched Bakemonogatari (which was awesome) and Nisemonogatari (which was good but a little disappointing). My favorite part about these series were the unique art style and awesome dialogue. However I am having trouble finding something similar, any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time! In sayonara zetsubou sensei, there is embraced those little nonsense funny satire sketches. Very heavily actually. From artistic point of view it's very similiar too. (Both made by Shaft). Arakawa under the bridge (also by Shaft) deveolops deeper story, with also funny nonsense, but little more delicate and not so over the top. 1st episode of arakawa makes you understand.

Tsukkomi fests. I've been reading and seeing on rankings everywhere that Gintama is one of those masterpieces of TV Animes. However after watching the first 10 episodes I couldn't quite get into it ... thought the story was a bit too randomly built and the characters didn't get to touch me yet. Now I know the anime is much longer than that but I'm basically wondering when it starts getting epic? Is it meant to be a great adventure like most Shounen (such as OP, Bleach, HxH, Naruto etc ...)? Will it make me cry like I cried over a burning boat or a dead Prince of Britannia? It takes a while to get used to. I didn't like the series at first because Catherine (the cat burglar) was fugly (dumb reason, I know). I think it starts getting epic 20+ episodes in.. The series is too epic to pass over. Hilarious gags (constantly breaking the 4th wall), great action, awesome characters.
Well that's encouraging, I'll probably go up to 25 episodes just to see how things turn out. How about the character's portrayal of emotions? Just being done with Code Geass, I must say that's something I'm really gonna pay attention to now since I was so moved by it's characters.

Hmm, their emotions aren't particularly complex, but distinct. It's adapted from a shounen manga after all. Gin is the cool, strong protagonist who comes to the aid of everyone, Kagura has a screw loose (only serious when fighting), Shinpachi is the king of tsukkomi, Zura is out of touch with reality and the Shinsengumi are a really diverse bunch with unique personalities.
Gintama is a gag-manga at heart, then expanded to a battle manga. The battle scenes are epic, even better than most other shounen manga.

I watched Denpa Onna and Arakawa recently, and theyre both really good.
Denpa is more of the moe/cutesy type but with really good clever/deep dialogue. It also keeps you guessing to the end and leaves a lot of stuff implied and never anything concrete, which I loved.
Arakawa is more of a down to earth romance/comedy, more slapstick if anything. But this is literally the same MC as Bake, its like they just copy pasted him into this one.

Don't care what genre really but I usually have preference towards Supernatural and Psychological stuff. Mystery's usually awesome too, but as said any genre works. Mecha is a bit hard to get into but if the plot's good why the fuck not. + Show Spoiler +No TTGL, CG or NGE please, though. I could not get into either of those at all. I even went through the effort to update my MAL a bit so any help is really appreciated: http://myanimelist.net/profile/Elem Wow, 83.9% compatibility over 44 anime. That's pretty good. As such, just look at my list for recommendations.

Wow thanks guys for all of the recommendations this thread is awesome!! I think I will be checking out Arakawa first, looks interesting. So when you talk of the producer (is that the correct word for it?) of these animes being Shaft, do they have large influence on the art style, I for some reason thought that primarily came from the manga. If I like the art style of one anime by Shaft is it likely I will like others?

Generally anime made by that company all tend to have art style like that, because thats what Shaft does.

Fair enough, never had that problem.. Never a shortage of satisfactory mediocrity..

If you cherry pick the top rated anime that are a number of years old it's pretty obvious that they will have higher average quality than if you pick a couple of anime from one season.

The old anime that are bad, are so bad it's not even comparable to modern bad anime. It's like... like diarrhea compared to a normal poop.
But old anime that are good, compared to the modern anime that are good, is like if you took Demonbane and made it fight a Zaku.

Denpa teki na Kanojo was soooooo good. I really recommend it to anyone else who needed something to watch.
+ Show Spoiler +I would probs have given it a 10 if there was more depth behind Ame. The only thing which disappointed me apart from the obvious "WHY ISNT THERE MORE OF THIS"

And people wonder why I throw a fit when people use denpa for denpa onna rather than denpateki na kanojo.

Can anybody point me in the direction of a really good anime that features biopunk/neo-noir themes?

We've covered this before.

Besides, using the term neo-noir for anime just feels wierd considering its origination lol.

Just finished watching higashi no eden after seeing an interesting amv. Are the 2 movies as interesting as the series and worth watching them?
