I dunno, did Lancelot ever disguise himself? I know next to nothing about Arthurian Myth. With alot of this stuff, its just best to accept it for what it is. They made King Arthur a girl, so I think that frees them up to do practically anything they want with the legend lol

+ Show Spoiler +As far as Im aware of Arthurian lore and theres a number of different versions, He doesnt do anything of the sort. It may be to expound his many qualities as a knight because in those stories hes the kings champion, paragon of virtue etc etc, Fights challengers on his behalf, also in charge of kicking ass when people question the queens fidelity (the irony slaps you in the face pretty much.)
Up until basically they needed someone to be worthy of fulfulling the grail quest for which Lancelot didnt quite cut it as a character. But hes no.1 champion what to do ?

Its really messy I went through a massive volume when I was a kid and then I find theres like more shit that different people have written. Its kinda like scripture in that whatevers canon makes it in cuz thats what the establishment whatever it is decides.

If we really want to go into the plethora of Arthurian legends all the way up to stuff in modern times, then there are some stuff in it that could explain why. That said, I honestly don't think they did the research, so it was mostly just convenience slapped on by the way the character is portrayed in the series.
