Holy shit. I just watched that, and while I admit that it has been a while since I've watched the series, I totally loved the almost the entire movie, with the exception of the first half hour or so. I thought that the latter half of the movie was so crazily good and of course, the ending was heart-wrenching.
I realize this is a movie and all, but I thought what was most astonishing was the incredible animation put into the entire thing, both the anime series and the movie itself. The animation style and artwork was just so fluid and HQ, it really begs the question why more mecha anime don't follow TTGL's lead. Compared to Code Geass, or the new Gundam series, I think the 2007 TTGL stomps them in terms of pure quality in animation and art.
As for any reasons to watch the movie: I'm sure that if you were a fan of the series you would definitely enjoy it as well. Some of the scenes are the same yes, and sometimes you know where they spliced together certain things, but to a large extent, it was still quite a thrill to watch it. Moreover, throughout the movie you keep expecting all these new scenes to pop up, and then they do, and it's so damn GOOD.
Okay, time to take the TTGL cock out of my mouth.

it is never time to take the TTGL cock out of your mouth.
GL's animation is probably my favorite, and the movie was just so smooth and I guess refreshing. I love the 2nd movie because unlike the 1st movie, there is so much new content, and it doesn't feel like a 2 hour long recap of the series from 15-27. (unlike the first movie...)

Dantes Inferno Animated(2010)
any good?

Speaking of Mecha animes, how come there has been such a huge shortage of new Mecha shows recently? I mean the last notable Mecha animes that airred was like, Gundam 00 S2 and Shin Mazinger. Gurren Lagann did VERY well, Code Geass did well (even though IMO the second season was just a troll), Gundam is Gundam, so it just doesn't make much sense to me.

Dante's Inferno? I haven't heard anything since it was announced. Wikipedia says it comes out on DVD the same day the game ships. I still think it's going to be absolute crap since it's based off the abomination of a story they have for the game. The preview did nothing to dissuade me of this.
I don't really consider Code Geass to be a mecha anime. I mean, sure they're in there and they do play a pretty major role in the plot, but it's not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the show. Also, isn't there supposed to be a 00 movie coming out sometime? Anyway, I guess everyone's focusing on making moe shows right now. =P

Just because a show is Mecha, doesn't mean it can't also be classified however you would classify it, or that it can't have all the other things that Geass had. Mecha is a extremely broad genre.
There is a Gundam 00 movie supposed to be coming out, but I have no idea how long that will take. I mean, technically there is supposed to be a Gundam SEED movie coming out as well, and thats been in limbo for years.

I've only seen some gundams, but there are good ones.
Gundam 00 wasn't bad at all, and 08th MS Team was just plain awesome.

I finished Last Exile and GitS SAC this weekend. Great animes :D
I'm kinda disappointed by GitS ending, but I guess I'm gonna have to watch the second season.

Watch: Salaryman Kintaro Higepiyo Durarara! Eight Man
Remakes: Cobra Dragon Ball Kai Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Just finished watching the first season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei; that was very funny. I see that there are a few more seasons, are there more episodes still being produced? And are there any other similar animes worth watching?

labeling brotherhood as remake is not really correct. Its another TV adaptation but it follows the manga, whereas the first one is a lot different because the manga wasn't and is not finished yet. I don't read the manga, but I saw one chapter like couple of months ago, so can anyone confirm this? But brotherhood is indeed good, although the suspense isn't as good as the first adaptation IMO.

watch bakemonogatari. I don't know if it's similar, but has the same director and from what I saw of SZS you might like it.

Havent watched SZS but as comedy goes you can check out Detroit Metal City. Hilarious anime with death metal and music in general. You will be laughing so hard watching this anime.

Just finished Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 as I saw it mentioned earlier in the thread. I enjoyed it a lot. It almost made me cry. The ending left me hanging personally as to Mirai's outlook on the future and what she wants to do, but that doesn't detract from the anime as a whole. I saw a few episodes of Dennou Coil but haven't finished it yet... Dennou Coil seems more light-hearted but I'll have to reserve judgment till I'm done watching.

Started watching Black Lagoon. I wish I could watch more but Megavideo says otherwise.
