No more teenage slice of lifes. That's been overplayed. I remember seeing something about the collapse of the anime industry in Japan. Well not collapse, but it referenced the low number of new series coming out lately. It was especially pointing at the decrease in those teenage slice of lifes or shows like that :3. I wish I could find the article again.

Given the popularity of the series, I think we'll see season 3 or another take on Fumoffu at some point or another. As for Leonard in TSR, that asshole, just as well that you don't see them doing anything with him for TSR. Fumoffu is one of the funniest animes ever though. No way. KyoAni is too busy making moe blob anime, and trolling people with stuff like Endless Eight to make another FMP series. I would REALLY like another one, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wish I could find the article again. That's an exaggeration IMO - they said it back in 1996 before Eva came out, and they've been saying it for every single year since then. The industry waxes and wanes, but I have a feeling it's going to be around for a while as long as Japanese hikkikomori man-children continue to exist. That being said, I do think most of the shows today are derivative pieces of shit. The archetypes have been established and abused, and the stories feel predictable. What the industry really needs better writing, and I do think they recognize that, since there's been an obvious growing trend towards animating light-novels, but in the end it should be up to the companies themselves to break away from the overused character archetypes and recycled plots to produce something more interesting. There have been instances in recent memory where I feel that original works have done one or the other rather well, but never both - they always overshoot or undershoot the mark. I liked Higashi no Eden for this very reason, though I feel that in the end the plot started to fall apart. Of course if it's too far out there the fanbase will turn their noses and sales will drop, but in the long run I think it'd be better for the industry to start to try something different if it wants to grab a larger fanbase. Of course, they could be content to sit around and market the same EVA models to the same people for the next ten years, but I would be sorely disappointed.

FMP is quite the cash cow too if we are just going by the popularity of the light novels, moreover, it is a popularity that has endured more than 10 years. I am not sure if it'll be KyoAni doing additional seasons, but we are more than likely to see them. I don't understand why anime companies can't be at least slightly more creative. Why not just animate an original story instead of copying some popular manga for easy success? It's becoming more and more rare in this time and day...

It's becoming more and more rare in this time and day... But you just answered your own question, when we consider how Shaft enjoys immense success but still doesn't have nearly enough funds, the picture should be pretty clear no? As for people complaining about character types...eh, what the heck. It isn't like before 1996 there were no character types, if we take a wider perspective at fiction instead of just anime, we'd see more than plenty of recycling going on. When you do enough of something, precedences kind of stack up, and some of those are more well-received by the audience than others. There is a reason people are praised for originality, because it is such a rare thing, demanding for it to come more often is kind of unreasonable.

That series could have been 5-6 episodes shorter and it would have been much better as a result.
