I've yet to find anything remotely as enjoyable as Ergo Proxy. I'm a little sad that i've finished it . Most anime people talk about in this thread look/are hilariously bad :/
Hello my fellow Cyberpunk anime lover! I'm assuming that's the genre you're referring to. Here's some more:
-Ghost in the Shell -Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex -Akira -Bubblegum Crisis -Metropolis -Boogiepop Phantom (This isn't exactly cyberpunk, but it's dark, confusing, and really cool) -Neon Genesis Evangelion (Doesn't fall into the cyberpunk category, but it's very interesting) -Serial Experiments Lain -Texhnolyze
Some of the most well known ones off of the top of my head.

u missed my favorite one ^^ -Battle Angel Alita
Not in my list because the OVA doesn't do the manga justice. Everything felt rushed and underdeveloped, to the point that it felt like we were merely cramming...
And for the depressing thing... Try Now and Then, Here and There, Grave of the Fireflies (<- ), Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 last two episodes, and of course this infamous comic strip:
Is Seitokai no Ichizon any good? I've just watched through the first episode and while I enjoy my comedies once in awhile, this series has way too much slapstick comedy for my tastes ;;

The slapstick comedy is exactly what it is good for though, so if you don't like that, you probably shouldn't bother with it. I enjoyed it quite a bit, though it was an enjoyment that carried over from liking the light novels. The general response from this thread for it is somewhat polarized, some people enjoy it, others hate it, so yeah~

I gave it a shot cause it seemed really popular and the manga seems to do really well. But I can't get over hitman's voice. I might give the manga a shot, but I dropped the anime after like 3 episodes.
I wonder at whether Seitokai can be considered mindless, the way it uses conversation and wordplay sets it rather apart from the parodies in Lucky Star. It definitely has its shares of random laugh elements, but for the most part that focus on it being a 'chat' gives a degree of thought to it. Well, anime visualized a ton of the stuff in the conversations in novel, so I guess that's a rather weak argument there, but still.
Oh my god, I watched and rewatched the entire Toradora episodes from 1-24 yesterday and today, and it was so good.
Soo good.
Can you guys give me recommendations on other animes that I can enjoy?
I've also seen the entirety of Lucky Star, and enjoyed it. I liked Azumanga as well. I tried watching Haruhi, but it grated on my nerves. Genshiken and Welcome to NHK... err, the main characters of those anime were way too "out there" for me to relate.
Thanks! Man, Toradora's residual feeling is going to stay with me for days.
Ecael: Haha don't confuse the Light Novels with the Anime. It was much more mindless on screen I bet. There weren't obscure references at all. It was full of just animated cut-in scenes.
FragKrag: I doubt those final two episodes will help elucidate your understanding if you didn't get any others. And Berserk is good for the action (unless I'm confusing Berserk with some other anime).
orgolove: Clannad, Kanon 2006. Similar to Toradora but with more drama.
I tried the Kanon line (Clannad, Kanon, and Air) actually first via the visual novel genre, so I'm pretty familiar. I mean, it's great, but their storyline isn't something I can just watch while relaxing, too much sadness and suffering.
Toradora though was really great in showing the increasing development of the relationship between ryugi and Taiga. It was really heartwarming, all the way to the climactic kiss scene.
Haa... I wish there was a season 2 of the series. Does the visual novel go further than where the anime stopped?
The K-ON OVA is out and is subbed. I didn't even know there was going to be an OVA until I saw it on tokyotosho...
Anyway, it's about the band performing at a live house. The episode had more or less the same feel as the rest of the series (so cute it leaves you with a stupid smile on your face), so if you enjoyed season 1, you'll like this as well.
