I know this is off topic, but does anyone know what the name of the song in that video is?
On topic: Last season's anime was pretty bad for me. I tried a lot of them out, I barely ended up finishing any of them. I looked up some animes mentioned recently in this thread, and Boogiepop phantom/genkutsuo are two that i haven't seen and sound pretty cool; definitely going to go try them out.
I agree with minami-ke season 1 being hilarious. The characters are great and it's a good anime to watch if you just want to enjoy yourself.
It's worse as in you don't really care about any of the characters or the story and are pretty much watching it for the boy girl situations + fanservice. It's not very well written is what I'm saying. I particularly think Toradora wasn't super amazing either. I did while I was watching it. But I enjoyed Toradora more because the main relationship was more developed and interesting to follow for a good portion of the show.
It's kind of cute to watch and fun at times but have no higher expectations than what you see in the first episode or two. If you enjoyed those episodes, continue watching.
Zero no Tsukaima. Imo, it's a lot of fun and really hilariously over the top. It's basically the normal cliche harem/romance/comedy done well, with the queen of tsundere voicing the tsundere. Compared with Toradora it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of complicated drama and is just kind of mindless fun.
It has many animes that other sites can't get, but beware of the suspicious pop ups and ads. As long as you're smart about it, there won't be any spyware creeping onto your computer.
edit: Testie is pretty much right on the ball, and don't watch season 3 (it's mostly stupid)
Possibly offensive question incoming: Is Strawberry Panic's pace like this throughout the entire anime? Or does it start picking up and getting interesting or exciting? After four episodes I considered staring at my feet and wiggling my toes for something more entertaining. The OP got me all pumped up for the show too.
This like Aria where apparently you should watch it after a hard days work and just need to relax? ;p

Also starting Berserk today; hopefully it's good :D
I didn't understand very much of lain while watching it the first time. However, the second time things became very clear and I didn't have any problem grasping the whole concept and thinking. Suggest you give it a try in a few years when you're a bit older!
I think you'll like Berserk though, it's pretty raw with lots of action and good atmosphere.

Kiseki by Uemura Kana, maxi single from 2005.

FragKrag: I doubt those final two episodes will help elucidate your understanding if you didn't get any others. And Berserk is good for the action (unless I'm confusing Berserk with some other anime).
orgolove: Clannad, Kanon 2006. Similar to Toradora but with more drama.
Not quite confusing the two, just saying that even the anime preserved the conversation aspect to a certain extent, it just went about it much more visually.

Lain is a show where a rewatch is almost required -- as Shauni says, it makes wayy more sense the second (or third... or fourth...) time.
That said Shauni, what is "the whole concept and thinking"? I never identified one unified concept but rather a set of themes and such, so I'd be interested to hear your interpretation.
Ecael: It still felt really over the top, but that might just be me and I can't make any real judgments considering that I haven't read the light novels.

I think what he meant was grasping the concept of Lain, and then thinking about it. That said, here's my take on it:
I would agree that there is no "one theme" in Lain. It's impossible to characterize it as touching on any one subject because it talks about so many. Obviously though, the main starting point when talking about Lain should be the main character, which I'll put into spoilers.
I think the first question that begs to be asked is: What is Lain? The series never really gives us a satisfactory answer to this, but we do know that at the very least, she transcends the "Real World". To me, Lain represents the border between the two extremes of thinking that are shown in Lain:
1. The Wired is more "realistic" than the Real World. 2. The Real World is more "realistic" than the Wired.
Lain herself ends up equivocating between the two, until we finally see the fracturing of her personality. However, I think her one major realization throughout the series is that neither of those world views is correct, because each has its faults. Instead, I think it's fairly clear by the end of the show that it's a basic human connection that Lain accepts as "reality".
I find it funny that I came to kind of the same conclusion as I came to with Haibane Renmei, but it's honestly what I see . You kind of see the same theme in Evangelion as well, but that's whole different discussion.
I'm craving for some Steampunk again after reading Mortal Engines. Can anyone help me with a good list of favorites of the genre? I've probably seen most of them already but recommendations are still welcome. Thanks.

What do you mean by 'pace'? StoPani is a pretty low-quality yuri fanservice show, it's best to treat it like one. Occasionally there are 'drama' episodes, but most of them are just about Nagisa wandering around the houses, Tamao being a creepy stalker, Shizuma being emo/stoic as always, etc, and sometimes the episode detours over to the other two houses to follow Hikari around.
Really, StoPani is so in-your-face I'm not sure what you mean by 'slow pace'. Do you mean you thought people would hook up faster? The drama does pick up later on, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for it to turn into a good show or anything.

Theres plenty of drama once shizuma starts to make her move, i guess the second half of the season >>> first half
Its very in your face and its supposed to make fun of the genre a bit but i really enjoyed it so nothing bad there lol Also the series is very well planned out so you easily get hooked on the drama and it is kinda silly but very satisfying
Since the relationships were fan decided you can see how awkward nagisa x shizuma is lol
edit: also what do you class as "high quality" yuri anime? I mean, theres marimite (which is shoujo) and...? Strawberry panic is pretty good ihmo because there isnt really much yuri anime out there of particular note that is as famous
edit: WTF did they do to that poor girl at the end of ep 3 of bund?!?!
hm, well I'm fine with unsatisfactory endings so Berserk seems like it would be fine. I wish more animes would be able to end a bit better, even if they are to promote the manga. I mean Ga-Rei: Zero was just a prequel, but it still had a satisfying ending T_T
