If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.ggFor currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net |
hm, well I'm fine with unsatisfactory endings so Berserk seems like it would be fine. I wish more animes would be able to end a bit better, even if they are to promote the manga. I mean Ga-Rei: Zero was just a prequel, but it still had a satisfying ending T_T I didn't find it that satisfying...
I'd like the ending better if the manga didn't utterly suck *grumble grumble*

So...can anyone give me a recommendation for this season? Trying series blindly isn't working out. I downloaded the first two eps of Ladies vs Butlers, but I generally try to avoid anime that could get someone arrested for having in Canada, so dropped.
Sora no Woto doesn't look like my thing either...in fact, rule out everything involving mostly lolis or being nothing but fanservice. I went ahead and crossed out everything that rules out. Any of the remaining shows on this list entertaining?:

Here you go. Two definitely worth picking up for you. Durarara!!! for obvious reasons, and Nodame Cantabile. Now this is NOT loli or fanservice. It's about music, but it's classical music, and it's college students, not high school students. In other words, it's a damn good slice of life.
I'm still waiting on Katanagatari. Ookami Kakushi is continuing to be a "meh" anime. Vampire Bund is looking like a drop now. Sora no Wato is hanging in there for me because it's not really looking like K-On! right now. Baka to Test is still teetering on the edge. I don't see the characters going anywhere. Hidamari Sketch is looking good.
In any case, my edits are in green in the spoiler below: + Show Spoiler +

Baka test is a more comical version of your normal long running light novels like Index and Shana, I think that should give you more than enough information. That said, the test answers are pretty funny, and if you are the type that can laugh at weirder fan service (Hideyoshi), then you'll probably be able to watch it for amusement.
Sora no Woto is infinitely closer to Aria than it is to k-on. That said, this is a slow season, I am just reading more than usual to compensate, really not much interesting stuff. Katanagatari airs 27th iirc? I am looking forward to Togame and Nanami, probably mostly the latter :D

I'm really liking baka test, enough that I tried to look up the manga and light novels for more of it. Can't find the light novel even though I think some of it should be fan translated too.

Thanks Myst, I'll give Durarara a try for sure, then.
About Nodame Cantabile: It says 'finale' and the name sounds familiar, weren't there earlier seasons of it? If so, does it matter if I just pick it up from this one?
It also looks kind of shoujo-ish, is it all heavy and depressing 24/7, or does it have some lighter parts?
Also I was already looking forward to Legend of Koizumi, shit is going to be epic.

Progress on the rest of the series is practically nonexistent.

It is doing alright in comparison to some other series, actually, fan translations tend to be like that, should consider yourself lucky that text of any kind gets translated at all

I thought SoRaNoWoTo was going to be similar to K-On, but after actually seeing it, I have to say it gives me more of a Haibane Renmei opening feeling than anything else. I doubt it'll develop along similar lines and with such dark themes, though. It's relaxing but unfortunately it's not funny compared to most slice of life anime. I liked the art, music, setting, and slight hints at character development, so I believe it can possibly become exciting or at least fulfilling.
Ah, who am I fooling, I just want the heroines to get their one tank rolling and face unbeatable odds on the battlefield like in Valkyria Chronicles, though hopefully without broken superpowers. I'm almost certainly going to be disappointed.
Hanamaru Youchien had a cute first episode but by the second episode I got bored quickly.
I saw Eve no Jikan yesterday. It was heart-warming, though with some tense moments, and also provoked some thought. Too bad it's so short.

Don't we have to wait for the DVD release since the ones that are on charts/release dates are theatrical releases while subbers can't technically sub that unless they cam record it...? So expect another 5-6 month wait I take it?
