I'm a little sad that i've finished it ![]() Hello my fellow Cyberpunk anime lover! I'm assuming that's the genre you're referring to. Here's some more: -Ghost in the Shell -Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex -Akira -Bubblegum Crisis -Metropolis -Boogiepop Phantom (This isn't exactly cyberpunk, but it's dark, confusing, and really cool) -Neon Genesis Evangelion (Doesn't fall into the cyberpunk category, but it's very interesting) -Serial Experiments Lain -Texhnolyze Some of the most well known ones off of the top of my head.

Death Note should have ended right when L died. I hated the last 13 or so episodes because it just never had that same feeling that L made. sooo lame and the ending was absolutely terrible T_T Code Geass however was pretty good. I think the second season got a little messy though

It seems right up a lot of people alley in terms of character design, overexaggerated faces, and I'm finding that the only good anime this season is durarara!! Everything else is just "meh" UNLESS we see a dramatic turn around in Ookami (which might or might not happen, considering it's AIC). Lucky Star, while admittedly very good, was overhyped and leeched off a lot of Haruhi's success. Hidamari Sketch on the other hand is not as well known. It's too bad considering it rivals Lucky Star (besides the numerous otaku references which get quite repetitive...) although it seems like that will soon change with the addition of that new character... I believe that duraraararar is some sort of shounen anime. Surprising. l _____ l X Lucky Star was overhyped? Yes. Yet there was just something about it that caused a major upheaval in the fan base after it was aired, so it deserves major respect for that. It pretty much defined the genre. And Hidamari Sketch is VERY well known. I think it was the most anticipated anime out of the Winter batch from early polling. The difference is apparent when looking at this thread and the discussions about Hidamari and when looking at a site like MyAnimeList (53k members for Lucky Star while only 8k for Hidamari, 32927 ratings by users versus 3275). Not as well known at all. As for Lucky Star defining the genre, well, I hope you're not talking about Slice of Life.

Anyway, Hidamari is popular enough to get 3 seasons in Japan, and that's the only market that truly matters. Foreign fans don't really buy R2 DVDs. Lucky Star is also rather popular. Something of note however is that its DVD sales regularly dropped with every release, so I get the feeling it started alienating fans as the series went on..

The first thing you think of when you hear parody + slice of life + little girls will always be Raki Suta. I'm not comparing Lucky Star to the new Hidamari, I'm comparing it to the first season's Hidamari (which is the most logical considering people will watch the first season before moving on, thus most fitting for comparison). Seeing how you assumed it was the third season's figures should further highlight the differences. Defining the genre in parody, I don't really know much else that also have the chibi look and is slice of life. Hidamari doesn't have enough of the parody but it seems like it's the closest thing. And I am very glad they are making a new season of it. It is probably the best series I've ever watched. Lucky Star has its moments but there's just that SHAFTO style. The bgm is also very pleasant.

Well if it's well known enough to get 3 seasons, 1 OVA, and 2 Specials, it must definitely have some sort of big fan base in Japan. Regardless, we've kind of drifted into semantics now, so I'm just going to stop talking.
