Rather than judging people for what they watch, just accept it and stop acting like a pompous condescending jackass. You did this in the Avatar thread as well, so it seems to be a running theme with your posting. There's a bit of pretentious elitism in this thread and it's pretty annoying, but most of it gets ignored.
As examples shows like Kimi Ni Todoke and Clannad After Story have high ratings and are generally heart warming shows. Clannad After Story is even the no.1 rated anime on myanimelist and was/may still be on anidb.net. If you're feeling wrong while watching these shows, the problem probably lies within you. Not the show or people who enjoy the simple beauty of it. I'll try to chill down in the anime thread but it's way more than entertainment for me (PH?). The popularity of an anime tells me nothing about how good it actually is. I don't see why you are pulling Clannad numbers on a whim, was it because I said I disliked KyoAni? I've seen Clannad, Air and Kanon several times and I like them too. Being tsundere toward moeshit is pretentious elitism? Maybe... And things like K-On! is pretty much tentacle rape but with a different approach.
Moe does get on my nerves a lot but what is interesting is seeing girls acting younger rather than older for a change. I only like it in small portions. Basically, lolicon girls in a adolescent body.

Oh a lot more old animes that I forgot O_O
Slayers - Watched some of it, got disinterested about halfway through. Golden Boy - Heard about it, but didn't watch it before because of parental units. I'll get around to it now. Hunter x Hunter - I'll give it a try. Words Worth - Hentai, not watching. Gundams - Watched a lot when I was little. I'm not going back again to watch them. Kenshin - Watched them all earlier. Legend of the Galactic Heroes - I might be asking for death delving into a 110 episode series. I'll try it anyway. Tis ranked #6 on myanimelist, so it has to be worth something. Nadia - Watched. Had some issues with 23-34 (excepting 30,31) initially, but then I found out it was by a different director so all is forgiven.
Watched or encountered and disliked all of d3_crescentia's suggestions.
Akira, Nausicaa, Grave of the Fireflies, GitS - All watched. Brilliant movies might I add.
So I think I have my list. Thanks guys!
Haha I like the new poster shots... The last batch I saw for Winter was much more ecchi in nature. In any case, two for Winter that I think people should watch out for:
Durarara!! - Done by Baccano!!'s director, so I expect something good. Katanagatari - Done by Bakemonogatari's director, so I expect something great.
Edit: My take on this moe-loli debate that's going on: Get over it. Sometimes some of us just want mindless entertainment. Too much of it makes my mind rot though, but that's just me.

I really need to watch GTO again. Such a great show. :O

Hey!!! (damn, it didn't slip through) Golden Boy is almost hentai too!!!
Anyway, LoGH is long, almost tedious at times but if you value politics, realism or science fiction in anime you should give it a try. At least there are no 'fillers'. I liked it, at times it was very exciting. Bit surprising you've seen Nadia, didn't know it was that big.

This moe and morality discussion seems rather prickly to me as well as being definitely mired in subjectivity (I mean come on, what do you expect with the two topics?) Not only do both concepts lack definitive interpretations, but shows using moe as a draw are not always necessarily appreciated for their moe elements.
For instance, take K-On. At its core we have a simple, feel-good, slice-of-life comedy speaking to the power of hard work from a few angles. Unless the viewer found the cast specifically desirous and drew enjoyment from that, he could've enjoyed the show just as much if the cast were all male. Such was the case for me at least since I found K-On's cast about as attractive as a box of cookies.
Of course some viewers may enjoy a show solely because it stars characters that they find attractive... a fairly shallow reason that I can understand may create guilt. I watched Chrome Shelled Regios for a few episodes since Felli was cute. Dropped it when I felt like it offered me nothing else. Thing is, shallow attractions are tenuous, and it's very unlikely for a viewer to go through an entire show with shallow attractions being the only reasons for watching. Other sources of interest do much better in keeping all but the most shallow viewers interested.
So the next time you're several episodes into a series you would characterize as based on moe, ask yourself, "Why am I still watching this show?" If you're honest and perceptive, the answer won't be "because X is moe-moe!"
If it is... I'm sorry, you gotta... watch less fan-service or something.

Golden Boy is awesome! Series is way too short.

Words Worth...worse anime I have ever seen. Didn't even make me feel hard (or happy) no matter how hard I tried.
Anyway, as for old anime, here is my list:
Cowboy Bebop: First few episodes are short but it gets really good later on and arguably one of the best anime of all time.
Gundam: I could swear to God that there is a formula for how the story goes. Help me make one
G=
Samurai Champloo: Cowboy Bebop set in Feudal Japan. Really cool fight scenes
Samurai X: Best samurai anime I have ever seen. So much better than the Rurouni Kenshin series. You should also read the manga as well.

I guess i have my fair mix of animes
I like enjoying light stuff for entertainment (seriously, kon and lucky star are hottt favourites)
At the same time i love seinen stuff that kicks up emotions (clannad kanon, elfen lied fits here for me too really)
Recently i been into the shoujo romance (bokura ga ita, kimi no todoke)- bokura really REALLY owned me hard. When take was going after nana i hadnt felt emotions like that since i reminisced about my ex and it hit me all over again. Anime is remarkably powerful stuff. It felt like the story of my life all over again (even though my story is obv different)
---
At its core though i do love the moe moe stuff - its heartwarming. Everything needs a little bit of cuteness in it because i like cute things. In real life, i like cute things. Thats just what i like haha

Seconded. Some might get confused (in Brazil, Rurouni Kenshin was aired as Samurai X, don't know about other countries though). The one Mori600 is talking about is the OVA, Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal, and it's a whole new level from the TV series.

A good discussion thread is one where people can find others with similar tastes and recommend/discuss anime based on that rather than flinging shit at eachother over what is "good" and "bad" when that's 100% relative.

Oh man, I cried like a bitch during episode 22 of lucky star
caught me off guard

I've seen Lucky Star at least 5 times and I get at least a little teary eyed every time I see that episode. It's so heart-warming.

Hi everyone! Second post in the anime thread =)
I just finished watching Clannad. I first I was bored by the first 34-36 episodes. I didn't really care about his school life and it wasn't that sad (except for Kotomi's arc), but it really became much better after a while in After Story. I didn't like it as much as Kanon though. I feel Kanon had a lot more mystery and the fact that it was always in winter really added to the sadness. Also, I cared and cried a lot more about Ayu/Mai/Makoto than Nagisa and that annoying Fuko. However, it was still a good watch! And I love that Dango Daikaizoku song.
I'm gonna watch Air next, but I'd gladly listen to some recommandations! According to that post above, Lucky Star seems to be sad too?

Lucky Star.
Sad.
ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL.
No.
Except for one moment that is more funny than sad. (imo)
Oh, and you're supposed to + Show Spoiler +cry for Tomoya, not Nagisa. He freakin loses his wife, falls into a depression and when he finally reconciles with his daughter, she falls ill and dies. He ****ing dies of despair. Not to mention moments with his dad and grandmother.

I remember liking Words Worth when I was 12-13.... >_>
I loved, and still do, Cowboy Bebop, but there were definitely a few episodes that bored the living hell out of me. Granted I haven't watched it since reruns on Adult Swim ended a few years back. I remember trying to get my brother into it. He had dabbled in anime a bit, over the last few years, as he's a good 15 or so years older than me, and grew up with Robotech, and had kids of his own for things like Spirited Away, and such. Every time we'd watch an episode together, it would be an episode I personally didn't care all that much for, and I always sensed that he wasn't very impressed with it, but he was never able to watch the whole series.

caught me off guard What, you didn't expect a totally unserious show to suddenly throw a tearjerker at you? =P
Lucky Star has a total of one sad moment. The rest of the time it's a comedy where a group of people talk about... stuff... Have you ever seen Seinfeld? It's kinda like that. BTW, Air is supposedly inferior to Clannad and Kanon, but that's only what I've heard. Haven't actually watched Air yet.
Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal is incredible (I may or may not have cried at the end >.>). It convinced me to try watching the series, but I only got through ~30 episodes before I got tired of it. Every fight seemed really pointless since it just boiled down to Kenshin pulling off some awesome move and winning. It probably didn't help that I kept expecting some of the emotional content from the OVAs to appear in the series.
Railgun has become one of my favorite shows. I just love Misaka's character. She acts pretty mature and has a good sense of responsibility, but still manages to look naive and childish at times. That, combined with some tsundere moments makes her very likable. The story's not bad and the fight scenes are pretty epic as well. I've run out of episodes to watch, so I guess I'll start on Index now.

Air ain't that bad. I think the length of it is kinda detrimental though. Would've been better longer imo.

Oh nonono, Lucky Star is straight up comedy. Episode 22 is just a poignant anomaly that deals more seriously with the heroine's family life. I don't have much in the way of recommendations for titles similar to Clannad/Kanon/Air.

Sorry about Lucky Star, I couldn't know on the base of these 2 comments
And yeah, + Show Spoiler +I cried a lot for Tomoya. He was looking EXACTLY like his father. It was so sad
