Now and Then, Here and There is a seriously underrated Anime and probably one of the most the tragic animes out there.

I like war/assasin style anime, kinda lika samurai X, hellsing, record of lodoss war, macross, etc. I'm not really into that depressing stuff so many of you seem to enjoy, I also don't fancy anything with a soap opera style like singing or high-school related stuff (although I'll admit I've watched Fullmetal Fumoffu and it was really funny). So can anyone point me to good anime with lots of blood, deaths, magic, vampires, serial assasins, killings, machine guns and rock and roll? I would greatly appreacite it. (if you have a long list you can always pm me
I recently watched Darker than Black, and currently watching Darker than Black: gemini of the meteor. Doesn't really fit in your taste, but has a lot of action, killing, and the plot is awesome imo, except for some parts that I think are fillers (don't know because I never read the manga)+ Show Spoiler [Genres, taken from ANN] +adventure, drama, mystery, science fiction, supernatural
EDIT: as xDark.Carnivalx said, Darker than Black is not adapted from a manga. The manga is actually adapted from the anime.

darker than black wasn't based from a manga, or other media. at least that's what i remember, might be wrong

Yay for hanamaru Kindergarden! So cute

Just finished the first season of Spice and Wolf and all seasons of Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei.
Gonna start Spice and Wolf II, Lucky Star, and Speed Grapher.
Kimi ni Todoke 12 should be out by now but I guess it'll take a day or so for Eclipse to sub it.
|
Raws for that come out Tuesdays US time, so I guess it depends on how fast Eclipse works, that varies a lot heh.
DtB's manga came after anime I believe, though the OVA stuff are probably more or less "based on manga".

Mystlord recommended mostly from the current season. If you meant Summer season recommendations:
Bakemonogatari - Really good stuff. Harem, but that's just a detail. If you watch this one, search for extra episodes not aired on TV (only stream). Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (ongoing) - The first series was a TV adaptation. This one follows the manga. Although I think the plot in this one is not the best, it's still better. Also the manga is probably much better (considering some discussions elsewhere. I never read it) Spice and Wolf II only if you liked season I
Canaan left me unsatisfied
AVOID Princess Lover, 4 episodes was enough for me to dislike it, and I don't even remember why I considered watching this
But I also second Kimi ni Todoke as a highly recommended. I'm still watching Letter Bee (Tegami Bachi), but I'm not so interested in it as I was in the first 2 episodes. But these 2 episodes hyped me so much that I'll finish watching it for better judgement. Kobato. is indeed slow, but I think it fits. Some may think it's a little childish, but it's more like "simple things of life". Great anime, imo. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is good too
waiting every week for new episodes of Kimi ni Todoke, Bakemonogatari, Kobato. and FMA: Brotherhood was painful for me. But, since I don't know your preferences, check anime sites like ANN for genres and reviews.

It was pretty nice, but it would have been far better if it wasn't picturing light vs dark so naive and simple, I dunno about you guys but that really disturbed me. Just the mad evil guy who wants to conquer the world against the imprisoned innocent kids. God. And tragic? It's like with Bokurano when they add in kids who die and get raped just to make it tragic, it feels fake in some way.

Anyone watched Mushi-shi? I think it's from 2005. One of my favorites. Maybe that's why I appreciate Kobato. more than Mystlord =)

How is Bakemonogatari a harem when only 3/6 (or 8) of the girls are hitting on Araragi? Nevermind that you never get to see anyone other than Senjyogahara take any action so far.

I agree with you. To me, it's just ecchi. I only said harem because some reviews says so, since there are only one other guy that appears more than once and he's not close to the girls.

It's like with Bokurano when they add in kids who die and get raped just to make it tragic, it feels fake in some way. I agree with your first statement. The plot felt very straight forward and rather naive in its presentation of the themes. It didn't seem to branch off all that much and take a look that much else, and the final few episodes felt a bit rushed and a lot more compacted than the previous episodes.
Aside from that, I feel that the series was definitely not fake feeling, and the entire idea of the anime is to embrace the fact that there is suffering in the world, and it's all one can do to remain optimistic and moral. Then again, Shu felt too Panglossian to me. His character felt rather one dimensional, though we did see some change within him.
Anyway, I would recommend it regardless of what I personally think.
And as for Summer recommendations, that's fairly easy:
Highly Recommended Bakemonogatari - One of the best animes of the season. I don't need to say much more than that - just take a look back at the thread and you'll see a lot of praise.
Spice and Wolf II - A solid show and highly recommended. The ending might feel weird, but it doesn't detract from the series as a whole.
Recommended Umineko no Naku Koro Ni - Not as good as Higurashi, but still one of the better animes of the season.
CANAAN - This anime was rather debated over anime because of its slight inconsistencies and plot holes, but taking a look at the anime as a whole, I honestly don't find those inconsistencies to detract from the anime. CANAAN was a brilliant and solid Summer 2009 anime. While the characters are not as developed as in many psychological animes, I feel that they were the strong point of the show... I'm going on too much. It's recommended
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - If you liked any of the others, you'll like this one. It keeps that same atmosphere from the previous ones.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - Another disputed anime in terms of quality, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 has several episodes that fail to maintain the pace of the show, and there is a mysterious drop in animation quality in episode 6, but it's a very down to earth story. It is rather tragic, but the strong point about this anime was, again, the characters. I feel that it was very easy to empathize with the characters, and this show will undoubtedly leave you in tears by the end of the final episode.
Special Interest Needless - The Shounen anime of the season. Princess Lover - The Harem/Ecchi/Fanservice anime of the season.
A bit longer than the fall review, but CANAAN and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 really got mixed reactions.

just burn through the whole d gray man anime series in 2 days time... any1 know if there's any official words on whether there's gonna be a third season coming anytime soon? otherwise imma go wild with the mangas, the anime ended too abruptly and left too many loose ends to the story...
|
The writer of the manga is slow / gets injured a lot or something. The manga isn't finished either and it's not too far ahead of where you left off.

Eclipse subs of Kimi Ni Todoke are out
+ Show Spoiler +God kurumi is such a bitch. I know that kazehaya/sawako will end up together but shoujo is never about the destination, just the journey. Hopefully Yano and Chizu will fuck kurumi up

I'm drunk and Seitokai no Ichizon is awesome

Does anyone else wonder why they didn't put Dear You in the Higurashi anime?

So that's the secret to enjoying that shitty show. I'll have to try that.

Wow, so much stuff to watch.
I think I can agree with a lot o things I read in the last 5 ish pages (I'll not quote anything, just for convenience, but--)
[list of random thoughts] + Show Spoiler + Even for ecchi/thing with a not-so-substantial plot, Kampfer's end could've been much better. It felt like the thing that happened in the eps9-11 were the middle of a semi-decent series. Instead, it ended when I started to enjoy it the most.
Seitokai no Ichizon was funnier earlier in the series, and now that I look at it (I haven't watched ep12 yet, because no eng subs are out, despite it being aired already), was not as awesome as I originally thought. Still pretty awesome though.
I'll need to pick up Blue Literature again, since I watched it to 4 or something, then stopped for no reason. I don't know anything about the source material, but up to the episodes I stopped at, this shit seemed pretty heavy.
Endless Eight: waste of time, but when I look back on it, it really was kind of amusing, and PROBABLY TOOK MORE WORK TO CREATE THAN MOST PEOPLE WOULD GIVE IT CREDIT FOR.
Baccano! was ridiculously entertaining.
FMA: Brotherhood is probably one of the best things I've seen out of any anime from the last few months.
I enjoy Armed Librarians, but you might think it's terrible. I think I'm just more forgiving.
I'm looking forward to the first 3 anime on Chartfag's winter list, but I'm looking forward to Dance in the Vampire Bund a bit more, just because I read the manga just a few days ago.
