Kara no Kyoukai OTOH was adapted & presented really nicely, and more importantly, is a good watch.

I agree more with Muey than Testie, a lot of it has to do with my bias for the original (F/SN being below even Hollow in terms of T-M works that I like). F/SN simply picked the most boring route to present and did so in a bland and uninspired manner. Sure, Saber can carry a show, but it doesn't make the show good. Rakkyo is just plain awesome.

Eh, I guess you can call it one but what I meant was the anime. Just keep on producing episodes, leaving the fans unsatisfied at one point like with Pokèmon and arguable Bleach and Naruto.

I will continue watching past ep1 when I finish the quarter, but I no one seems to have mentioned it AT ALL in this thread. ~_~

Aside from some weird animation quirks, a beautiful and intricate story. I haven't seen too many animes that approached the topic of freedom the way it did. At first it seemed black and white, but it morphed by the end to a complex topic. Brilliant. Then again, we are talking about Yoshitoshi Abe here, so I didn't expect anything less. Edit: Any suggestions on other original anime series? Every single one I've watched so far is a masterpiece. Animes only please. Movies are easier to pick through in this regard.

It got a lot better starting from episode 9. The tension is building up, although theres still a lot of fan service.

I don't care if he was in a hypnotized state, but he did get to feel up Shizuku before promptly gained knocked out. Is Sakura schizophrenic?

I actually think there are several tone shifts in the show + Show Spoiler + First 5 episodes are where Rakka thinks of Glei as a utopia, and the show is like a more mysterious version of Aria or something. Then episode 6 is a total shock, where Rakka is first exposed to the darkness lurking beneath the surface of the show, we see Reki's inner turmoil for the first time, etc. A total shift towards extreme darkness that continues up until episode 9 when Rakka escapes the circle of sin. Then the story finally moves to Reki, the "actual" main character (imo) and her struggles, which covers the rest of the plot. One of my favorite things about Haibane Renmei is how it's dark, but the darkness is subtle and hidden. The theory I personally subscribe to regarding the identity of the haibane is that they are the souls of children in purgatory who have committed suicide. The cocoon dream reflects their last memories before death (Rakka kills herself by jumping down a well, Reki steps in front of a train, Kana drowns herself, Nemu takes sleeping pills, etc.). The haibane go on to heaven once they have accepted their own identities and embrace life. I agree about the art unfortunately... there are some scenes where the art is just bad. At least the sensational soundtrack makes up for it. As for original anime series... I just finished Eden of the East (well, the non- movie part anyway) and have mixed feelings. On the one hand, the art is SPECTACULAR, but the characters are weirdly uninteresting (at least for me), the plot is unnecessarily confused and odd in general, and the show just seemed... off. I dunno, it just came across as a huge waste of some sensational production values. And what was with the obsession with naked men and penises? That show must have set some record for non-hentai male nudity. Edit - FOR WHOEVER HADN'T WATCHED HARUHI WATCH IT NOW OMG.
