I think youve made this arguement numerous times before aswell (ive given it a crack myself) and most reasonable people here thinks this approach to watching shows is good to if not at the least acceptable.
Its just that at times theres a frequent practice of fact stating and pigeonholing going around that tends to make people feel like theres a bunch of dicks around here you know the;
"This is bad because i say its bad and heres my reasons why, if you disagree with me then your just dumb lol" (and they might well be good reasons but its unfair to impose them on people who might enjoy the show for other reasons.)
accompanied by the usual trolling which ofcourse everyone is guilty of doing, and its fine to but at times can get malicious and arrogant which is really really unnecessary.
haha Kanokon. I reckon it beats school days, in the badness but alot more enjoyable.
And the dude who upset KH alot more than me apparantly might have had some preconceived notion while lurking and after mustering the courage to post probably felt like he was being put down. I dont blame him to much even if it wasnt a measured reaction.

Saikono is pretty heavy on the morbid sadness aswell, closer to Bokurano if you want that kind of tear jerking.
I didnt like E.F and True Tears myself but im in the minority, but that may have been just exhaustion with the genre. Of the otheres that were mentioned Sola is rougly in the same vein as Clannad Air and Kanon. And 5cm/s is probably the best of the lot for me even if its a movie
if you want something a bit more seinen you might go for Kimi ga Nozom Ein, or Honey and Clover.
I think all this stuffs on the rec list to.

I'm watching Kanon, I've seen Air. I haven't heard of most of those, so that will be kind of exciting to get my hands on over break. I'd add Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
(and I think Rumbling Hearts was sad, but I saw it a really long time ago cause it was like the first anime on Hulu lol)

As long as you have a vague knowledge of the UC Timeline, and know who Char was, you should be ok. And by vague knowledge, I mean that a Space Colony group at one point declared their independence as the Principality of Zeon, fought a war against the Earth Federation, and lost. This war was like 18 years before Unicorn fyi. Also that war was really really bloody. And since then, there has been alot of remnants of Zeon trying to do the same thing, and failing those attempts too. All you about Char is he was the masked ace pilot of Zeon who tended to pilot red mobile suits, was a hero to people who are Pro-Zeon, and when MIA in a battle prior to Unicorn (assumed dead, Char's Counter Attack if you are interested).
tl;dr version: All you need to know is that Federation vs Zeon war happened, really bloody, Federation won, Zeon still trying to fight. Char was a zeon ace pilot, and went MIA.

I... actually got pretty sad when I watched Angel Beats!... Don't know if you want to try that.
Tokyo Magnitude I didn't think was a tear jerker but it did make me go NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And since it's about a theoretical situation of what if Japan got hit with an 8.0 earthquake, it's actually pretty relevant to the Japanese earthquake. I actually watched it around that time. =/

I believe also that unfortunate coincidence or not the show was based of the premise that the japanese earthquake committee actually predicted the earthquake a while ago in the 80's or 90;s expecting 7.0 above to hit tokyo in the next 50-60 years, perhaps it was more recent I dont remember exactly. Anyway they wanted to depict what it could be like while adding the whole drama story to it. It appears the earthquake came rather quickly sadly (even if it didnt realllyy hit tokyo)so there was no need for the show in that respect :p.
Thats also the reason Japans got that awesome rolling building base tech, many other countries would probably have alot more damage if they hadnt engineered their shit to handle the quake. And it wasnt really the quake that did the major damage it was the Tsunami, which theres no real practical way of stopping as of now.

Sent was trolling, but yeah. Code Geass wasn't that great. In my opinion, Code Geass was good. I like it a lot (especially season 1 and the end of season 2). I don't really understand all the hate on CG, I understand how people can say it's not one of the best, but I still think it was quite good. ಠ_ಠ Lelouche and Suzaku killed it. They were both pretty dumb characters that were driven by things that didn't make a lot of sense. That and the way the battles were conducted were based on archaic and outdated strategies that just made it really unrealistic. And for all that I still gave CG an 8.....so yeah. It wasn't bad at all. And Blasty, I WATCH ANIME INTELLECTUALLY YOYO. I wasn't trolling, Geass is very good. Few anime keep you guessing time and time again, every episode. It never failed to surprise, and all the surprises were well thought out and intelligent. Such as Wakamoto transforming into a rocket. Hey, Lucky Star's pretty good too amirite? Yes, although in a different way. Whoever made Lucky Star was a comic genius who was able to have almost every line in the show be both incredibly insightful into the mind of your every day otaku, and also deeply hilarious on nearly every level. Lucky Star was enjoyable because it just gave you a warm fuzzy feeling of high school and made you laugh. And some of the scenes with Nanako struck a little close to home, lol. Tbh, if I enjoy a show and it's entertaining it's doing its job right. It doesn't have to be "intellectual" or anything. I'll watch Kanokon or whatever I feel like if I enjoy it and I don't care what other people think of my taste. If you enjoy something, then enjoy it. ^^ You clearly didn't think hard enough about Lucky Star if it only made you laugh. Lucky Star is a masterpiece that surpasses all genre, all tastes. Few things even come close. Would I be lost if I haven't seen any of the Gundams shows from the UC timeline? Not really, although I suppose some things will be lost on you, but its watchable alone.
Ah okay cool. Thanks. I vaguely know Char but I don't know much about the war. I will definitely check it out on my freetime.

Not necessary. It's already common knowledge that C^3 is the best anime of this season. Honorable mentions to Fate/Zero and Gundam AGE.

Hanasaku Iroha clearly the best SoL of its season, and smashed everything else because PA works is the best studio in the world. Kinda unfortunate that nothing else this year could compete.

I think there's a pretty big difference between something depressing and something that's an "emotional rollercoaster." Key goes for emotional stuff but yeah I wouldn't call it depressing.
