The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Clannad & Bokurano.

And some of the scenes with Nanako struck a little close to home, lol. Tbh, if I enjoy a show and it's entertaining it's doing its job right. It doesn't have to be "intellectual" or anything. I'll watch Kanokon or whatever I feel like if I enjoy it and I don't care what other people think of my taste. If you enjoy something, then enjoy it. ^^ You clearly didn't think hard enough about Lucky Star if it only made you laugh. Lucky Star is a masterpiece that surpasses all genre, all tastes. I made it a point that I'm not just comparing it no anime dialogue, personally I think your missing a lot of subtly that I'm getting out of it, but I'm no willing to say your viewing was wrong by any means. This is all opinion until we break out analysis, which I seriously don't care enough about the disagreement to do. I simply find it a little irritating that you are stating it like a fact =/. edit: ugh I regret even posting in this thread, clearly not my type of people, sorry about this. I'm sorry, but you're just being immature here. The problem is that you've admitted you've seen a total of ~15 anime meaning you have virtually no experience with anime and that by itself is fine. You came here and mentioned you liked S&W because of the interesting conversations; sure no problem. Someone tells you there are better shows with better conversations and suddenly a "difference in opinion" makes you feel insulted. The fact is that you cannot argue a difference in opinion if you have not seen what he or anyone else is talking about (this is not to say their comments are facts, however). I don't even understand why someone "new" to anime would feel insulted by that, because it's one step away from being a recommendation to something you would probably enjoy even more. If you had responded with "really? what anime has better conversations?" you would get recs and you could go watch them and be happy and entertained. Now, if you had actually seen the examples of "better shows," then you would be justified in being slightly offended and claim it as a simple difference in opinion; however, you are basically implying that your extremely limited anime experience is enough to determine that a show you've seen is better than stuff you haven't seen. As a last point, you mentioned S&W is your 2nd favorite anime, meaning you consider something better than it. What if...*gasp* that's what we were thinking of too? Are you still insulted that someone thinks your favorite anime is better than your 2nd favorite? What if you had never seen your favorite anime, making S&W your #1? If someone said *insert your actual #1 here* is better and you responded with "meh tbh you have your opinion and I have mine...I find it a little irritating that you are stating it like a fact =/" doesn't that seem silly since you obviously do consider it better? I have no problem with you thinking S&W is #2 out of 15 anime. I have a problem with you thinking that you can extend that opinion over stuff you haven't seen or probably even heard of. I feel like you came it here thinking "S&W is so good, I have to let others know its genius!" when you could've came in here thinking "S&W is so good, but I haven't really seen much anime. Maybe the experienced people in this thread can show me something even better!" See how a simple change in perspective suddenly makes your argument stupid? Sorry for the rant, and now I don't even remember what I came here to say D:

By closing your mind, you are limiting your experiences and missing out. Preconceptions get you nowhere." At least, that's how I try to do things. For whatever reason, I was debating about Madoka. I love the series to death, but for some reason, I was thinking of something else when i had "emotional rollercoasters" in mind. Another one that came up was "Grave of the Fireflies" oh and "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien" <-- i think, I havent seen it, but I heard its a bit more on the depressing side of things

From the ones that are in that list, I highly recommend Anohana/5cm/Kanon. 5cm is short so you can probably get that one in fastest, but it's SOOOO worth it.

I'm watching Kanon, I've seen Air. I haven't heard of most of those, so that will be kind of exciting to get my hands on over break.

"Beyond the Clouds" (Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Place_Promised_in_Our_Early_Days ) might be a bit shojo-ish but its more sci-fi than anything, but has some of the most STUNNING visuals as is usual for his stuff. If you want well-animated battle-scenes go with ![]() On the topic of Makoto Shinkai, the Blu-ray of this newest movie is coming out soooooon D:
