If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

There needs to be some more interesting animes coming out for the Winter or I'm going to go ballistic... Yes there's some decent ones here but none really catch my eye

Also, I wouldn't have enjoyed Haruhi S1 if it wasn't for the insanity. I skipped ep00 though, since I wanted to start the story. `_~

I ended up watching all three back to back lol
I loled so heavily at all the fanservice

Anyone know when ep 4 is out?

Episodes are generally available sometime Friday. Not sure when it airs in Japan, though.

REALLY? REALLY? Impossible. I'll give a list of awesome animes from Summer 2009:
Bakemonogatori. Spice and Wolf. Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (well it's getting a bit old, but still fun). Umineko.

Ok, now with that precedent. Let us look at this season.

Railgun. Darker than Black. Uhh......?????

Yeah I'm out of fairly good ones already.

Nyan Koi is like the child of Hatsukoi Limited, and is the generic harem show with a random hook.
Kaampfer is like trying to watch a show that's grappling between fan service and plot.
Sora no Otoshimono IS fan service.
Seitokai no Ichizon makes me go WTF. I had such high hopes for the show after hearing great things about the manga/light novel. Now I see the poor job that Studio Deen (what?) did with it. YOU'RE IN THE WRONG GENRE STUDIO DEEN.
Asura Cryin' 2 is the "sigh" anime of this season because I wanted so much for the story and characters to impress me after last season. Now I'm going uhh.... soo... why are there so many weird things going on?
11eyes is one of the few shows with promise, if it can only pick up the pace.
Letter Bee... Meh. I don't know if it'll turn out to be anything good.

Ok, that's my rant on several series. Another problem with Fall 2009 is the lack of ANY good carry overs. Summer 2008 at least had Code Geass (at least it was something) and Macross Frontier (another fun thing to watch). This season... Needless and three Bakemonogatoris? Not enough.

Please don't disappoint Winter season.

Edit: kona: Unless you mean the Summer 2008 season, where there was NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I turn once again to this almighty thread for advice;

Suggestions for something Azumanga Diaoh-, K-ON-, Lucky Star-, Sketchbook-ish? ( except minami-ke )

Seitokai no Ichizon is probably the best you're going to get this season in that regard. Uhh... Yeah.

Seitokai is great for me, I don't know what you are complaining about. As for the novel, that too is freaking excellent.

As for Summer vs Fall, definitely Fall for me. Summer was carried entirely by bakemonogatari, it might not be fair to be complaining about zetsubou and umineko because the original media is better. But the former is no more amusing than seitokai of this season and the latter plain sucking in comparison to what it should be. Just that is enough to have 11eyes+DtB+Railgun beating Bakemonogatari far as a season goes. Spice and Wolf season 2 I can't say a thing though, since I am going to read first before anything. But that can't be better than Kobato + Kimi no Todoke.

Requiem for the Phantom and Pandora Hearts were both pretty great. (from the summer season)

Both are Spring season, if carry overs work, Umineko and Bakemonogatari are both kind of out of the picture for comparisons.

The problem with Seitokai is that it just doesn't have any plot or really anything other than jokes and moe. At the same time, the show isn't paced very well, and it doesn't seem to consistently keep the pace. I'm pretty sure that the show landed in the wrong animation studio's lap. If they could keep it consistent, then I'd be much happier. My suspicion of poor pacing was confirmed in episode three where the production team did a 180 and decided to go for some mediocre plot development rather than jokes. Oh dear...

Kobato. It's like any other CLAMP anime. I'm not impressed.
Kimi ni Todoke is far too slow paced. By episode three I'm tired of the arigatouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus. Please introduce something new. Please DO more stuff faster.

And the only reason Summer felt carried by Bake is because it was so much better than the other animes by a long shot... Except Spice and Wolf 2. If you don't watch that one, you're missing out on the show that's just right below Bake in terms of awesomeness. Shame it got overshadowed by the hype surrounding Bakemonogatori. Please don't judge summer until you've seen it.

The style of shows across seasons has also shifted dramatically. What is the deal with all the harem and moe shows this season? It's very, very disappointing.

Actually that's the case with the novels too, I personally rather enjoy the mix of random plot on top of humor. I am not exactly watching an anime where the protagonist goes from the start to talk about his harem route dreams for deep plot, but I will be thankful if something worth thinking a little shows up. If it is random, so be it, the funny more than makes up for it.

Shauni::KyoAni, Mystlord::CLAMP? Kimi ni Todoke pacing is fine, but I also watch Aria on a normal basis instead of for relaxation.

I am not watching Horo till I read the novels, that's that. Also, the reactions to it from what I've seen are a long shot from the kind of acclaims that you are giving it.

Personally I am going by pure enjoyment, since a more serious look would obviously favor those with better storyline, which spells doom for those harem and moe shows. Fine for a show, perhaps, but not exactly a fair method of comparison for a season.

The only two justifiable claims that I've seen made against Spice and Wolf is the tough balance the show has to make between romance and everything else, and that the ending for both seasons was rather ambiguous and open ended. Other than that, it's an extremely solid series.

I don't hate CLAMP, it's just that most of them follow a predefined pattern in terms of how they play out. I sense some elements of Chobits in Kobato.

I tend to lean away from those shows that lean heavily towards fan service. That axes a lot of the shows of the fall season. Then add in shows that seem to have mixed goals and messages for the fall season and that means that I get bored. Or maybe it's just that I had high expectations after seeing so many good Summer animes. I'm also sad because so many shows have the potential to become the best of the season, but there's just something holding it back.

I can't say anything about Wolf and Spice (why are people calling it the opposite? Some more Japanese blundering of English?), so I will read all of the novels at some point and hopefully get to this season. How soon that'd happen I have no idea, considering I am rereading nisemonogatari for like the 7th time.

Yeah, there are elements of Chobits in Kobato, namely the characters appearing You have to keep in mind that CLAMP more or less shoots after a certain audience, to have it play out different in that situation would be strange.

I am fine with shows with fan service, until I get fed up with fan service. Seitokai just balances the humor and the random and the fan service (what little of it there are) nicely enough for me to enjoy it greatly. To be honest, I don't try to hold standards across seasons. After all, I have nothing against myself, no reason to let my love for Bakemonogatari screw over my enjoyment of practically everything for the next 6 months.

I've always seen it as Spice and Wolf. Probably sounds better and makes more sense?

I'm not exactly sure why I can't get into Seitokai. It's very Lucky Star in terms of its jokes and references.

I always judge shows relatively. I can't watch something made by CLAMP without comparing it to their other works, and I dunno. None of the shows here seem to be showing the animation studio's true potential. Or maybe their good teams are taking a break. I don't know.

Whatever the hell happened in DtB between seasons is making me want to read the manga.

EDIT - and forget everything I said about fan service and Seitokai, this week's episode has more than enough to overload the whole season thus far.

I take back whatever i said about Rurouni Kenshin. I made myself watch past 18th ep since i had no internet for days and had the whole series downloaded, it started to get good right away. Interesting insight into human psychology and priorities, wish i watched it long ago.

The manga to Rurouni Kenshin was extremely good in my opinion. Since I was one of those folks who read the manga before the anime, I was disappointed with it. However, the OVAs are excellent in my opinion.
