If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. You have the original Gundam, which is great, but all the Gundams after it make little sense. Why choose 08th MS team and Stardust memory? I'll forgive Seed, because the new generation seems to love it.
Zeta Gundam is both more true to the original and moves forward within the UC time line as well. You can make an argument for it's lack of popularity in the west, but the same argument could be made for the original. In a sense, Zeta Gundam is a completed version of the original, where Tomino was given freedom to finish a series. The more recent movie trilogy is a good alternative for anyone who wants to be robbed of the joy of the original episodes.
In the same vein, Char's Counterattack is the perfect end to the Tomino era and his body of work for the UC timeline. Yes, there was F-91, but it seemed rushed into a movie and not developed enough. Char's Counterattack is the culmination of Gundam and Zeta Gundam, in a grand finale, where nothing more needs to be said. Ask /a/, they are the ones who made the chart. I already recommended that 0083 be removed for our version. I don't mind 08th MS team there, since even though it is a side story, it is fairly stand alone, and good.
Zeta is a direct sequel to the original. CCA was a [mostly] direct sequel to Zeta. There isn't any reason to clog up the list full of sequels, for a list that is mostly meant for stuff that people can just pick up and watch. You couldn't just pick up Zeta and watch it, without having seen the original. And you couldn't just pick up CCA and watch it, without having seen the prior 2. I mean, unless people like watching things out of order, being confused, not knowing who anyone is, or what is happening. Its a recommendation chart, not a chart listing the best anime in the genre.

I think it is possible to watch Zeta without any knowledge of the original. The experience isn't as powerful, but still enjoyable. It would be the experience of the original Gundam, but in a complete form. Although I will admit, the little things are what make Zeta complete. The dynamic between Char and Amuro in Zeta is one of the best and all of their interactions can be analyzed and enjoyed.
I agree with you on Char's Counterattack. It's very difficult to understand the plot and the history of the two characters without having seen the original and Zeta. Even if it's simply a list of recommendations, it should preserve some sense of quality.
On another note, any plans to include Scryed and Victorian Romance Emma?

The list that is in the mod edit now is not the list that we have made. Souma will post it later and hopefully mystlord or harem can edit it in.
Also;

Insert Haruhi bashing here.

Its possible to watch Zeta without having seen the original, but you miss out on alot. The whole story builds off the One Year War, and you would be going into it without any prior knowledge. The entire political situation is closely related to the events from the original, and therefore you would miss alot of that. Plus, you would probably have no idea who the Axis Zeon even were (or their significance), when they show up, if you hadn't watched the original. Not to mention all the plot points concerning Char and Amuro.
Scryed would be a good inclusion to the chart. I didn't pay much attention to it outside the Mecha category.

Make a note about watching UC order? 0079 -> Zeta -> ZZ (Optional) -> Char's Counterattack -> Unicorn
Watching it all in order, especially with the ending of Char's Counterattack, it's really satisfying. Not to mention it closes the long rival between the duo.
I would advice you to stay away from any non UC Gundam until you finished that arc.

I would advice you to stay away from any non UC Gundam until you finished that arc. I strongly disagree with advising people to stay away from non-UC Gundams before finishing those early shows. There really isn't any good reason at all to avoid watching any AU Gundam before watching those. G, Wing, SEED, 00, etc can all be watched at any time, without any prior Gundam experience required. Thats the whole point of them being AU.
I enjoyed [most] of those shows you listed, and Zeta is one of my favorite animes. However, you gotta understand, other than Unicorn, those are all really old shows, full of QUALITY in some cases. I just can't think of any situation where I would tell someone who hasn't watched any Gundam before to watch all old 70s/80s Gundams before watching the newer ones. Get someone to watch Wing, SEED, 00, or 08th MS Team, see what Gundam shows are like, and then they will open up more to the older ones.

Yep yep. The list is almost complete. I had to make one more change though since people wanted DtB and Ga-Rei Zero under Action: I took out Katanagatari. A few people seemed to have a problem with it being under Action so I thought it would be the best one to remove. Was that a bad move?
Here's what the current rough draft is looking like:

Can someone help me identify this childhood anime that's been bugging me? From what I remember, the anime is like 7-8 years old and the main focus of the story is around these 2 boys trying to win races with their "mini cars." I think these mini cars run on battery, and have 4 wheels in each corner of its body to be able to turn in their specific tracks.
I used to have one of those mini cars wayyy back, and totally realized that I used to be crazy about them.

no :\ Actually I have no idea when I remember watching it. But I think it's safe to say that the anime is actually older than 7-8 years.

Dude, that's the "mini car" I was talking about! haha. Yeah, I could've sworn there's an anime about it. I watched it in South Korea if that helps any.
EDIT: I found the anime thanks to your term lol. Thanks man

Even with the terribly preachy ending every series in the franchise has, and the nonsensical sound detection shit they use in the middle of a fucking RAIN FOREST LOL.
I dunno...I just really liked it. It was short, did a better job of going for realism, and didn't have unkillable heroes.
EDIT Just took a look at that recommendation chart.
WTF...there was a Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou anime?? Wow...I had no idea.
EDIT2 Nvm. Four OVA episodes doesn't count in my book. ):

It also had Norris.

You should put Scryed on that list under Action
