If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.ggFor currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net |

Just finished the last Major season couple of weeks ago and I'm still kinda in a baseball hype, so touch is perfect. :D But I will come back to this channel more frequently from now on, so I'll take your offer sooner or later for sure. one outs is pretty good too

Hmmm just gonna watch both. xD I just finished school and have still 4 months before i have to study. So I have time + I don't like the new season anyway... did drop everything I started. :/
Touch does remind me a bit of Yawara though that's why I thought I'll give it a shot.
Edit: thx for recommending btw.

some of those shows look like they are from the late 80s and 90s

I need my next fix in the style of Samurai Champloo,Afro Samurai,Seirei no Moribito. Yes,I've watched all the anime in the chart. Can you guys propose something?

To be honest I haven't watched Real Drive yet but Outlaw Star is a classic and I checked various sites for rating comparisons and Outlaw Star beat out Real Drive. Hunter x Hunter takes Outlaw Star's place under Action. Full Metal Panic: Moved from Action to Mech. It replaces Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. This move was mainly done because FMP is mainly looked upon as a mecha and because One Piece needed a slot under Action. I don't know, but I think most people can agree FMP > SEED. Bounen no Xamdou: Replaced by Katanagatari. I really enjoyed Bounen no Xam'd but Katanagatari's popularity has skyrocketed, its overall ratings are better on all sites, and I myself think it's the better show. Bartender: Replaced by K-On! I have to admit that I've never watched Bartender. In fact I never hear anything about it. K-On!'s popularity is incredible and is an all-around good slice of life anime. It deserves a recommendation. Love Hina: Replaced by Kimi ni Todoke. No freaking contest. sola: Replaced by Bakemonogatari. Honestly I didn't want to put Bakemonogatari under Romance because it has so much more to it, but out of everything else I feel this is the best category for it. sola doesn't compare. Abenobashi: Replaced by Gintama. If it wasn't for the fact that the Action section is pretty stacked I'd have put Gintama under there. Instead, I had to put it under comedy which I think it still satisfies plentifully. I chose Abenobashi for it to replace because it's not as widely regarded as everything else under this category, although it does have its own hardcore following. It was a tough call but it had to be done. The only condolence I can give to those who do love Abenobashi... is nothing. It doesn't compare to Gintama in ratings, sales, fanbase, total awesomeness, etc. Rozen Maiden: Moved to Fantasy and replaces Mahou Shoujotai Arusu. I don't even know why Rozen Maiden was placed under Mystery in the first place. Huge failure. I enjoyed Mahou Shoujotai Arusu but Rozen Maiden beats it out in fanbase/popularity and ratings. Master Keaton replaces Rozen Maiden under Mystery. Master Keaton is a real gem. Fate/stay night: Replaced by City Hunter. Really, why is THIS under Mystery? I enjoyed F/sn even though it does garner a lot of flak from those who have played the game. I couldn't find a spot for F/sn so it was removed completely. City Hunter is a classic; it deserved the spot. Code Geass: Moved to Mecha and replaces Macross Frontier. Not sure why it's under drama. So with Code Geass replacing Macross Frontier it would mean I've removed it and Gundam SEED in favor of FMP and Code Geass. I think that's a legitimate choice. What about you guys? Bamboo Blade & Kaiji: Kaiji moved to Psychological and replaces GITS. Nothing against GITS at all, but it's more sci-fi than anything. And in that regard, GITS:SAC is already under sci-fi, so I don't think GITS absolutely needs to be in there. Kaiji is not a freakin' sports anime. Kaiji replaced by Cross Game and Bamboo Blade replaced by Ookiku Furikabutte. Cross Game was an obvious choice. Ookiku Furikabutte beats out Bamboo Blade. As much as I loved Bamboo Blade (trust me, I loved it. I watched it like three times so far. dat Hirohashi Ryou), Ookiku Furikabutte is the better sports anime. Basilisk: Replaced by Natsume Yuujinchou. Okay, I guess technically you can consider ninja with special powers fantasy. But really, Basilisk should be considered Action more than anything, and in that regard it's not as good as the others under Action. Natsume Yuujinchou is an extremely good show with solid ratings everywhere. Why is S&W under fantasy? Both Gundam SEED and Macross Frontier are popular and good mech shows, and both need to be on the list. There isn't really any reason to take off Gundam SEED, but then add Code Geass (which is MUCH less popular here than SEED). Replace Eureka 7 with Gundam SEED, and replace Patlabor with Macross Frontier. Replace Gundam: Stardust Memories with either Gunbuster or Getter Robo Armageddon, since 0083 sucked. Also, both Super Dimensional Fortress Macross and Do You Remember Love don't need to be on there, since DYRL is essentially the movie version of the series. Replace DYRL with Escaflowne.

Why is SEED even on there. Put the good Gundams like 0079, Zeta, CCA, even Unicorn.

For Bartender, think Aria w/ cocktails and focusing more on the iyashi-kei than building a world.
Bake under romance feels so limiting for that work.

crap was always made. The image that only good stuff was made in the past only comes up because so many people before you watched these old anime so it got filtered so often that you dont even get to see the crappy ones, cause after 20 years of recommendations the bad anime was forgotten.

Anyway, for the mecha section, basically just do what Sent said. Maybe add Madoka to the psychological section? ;D

Replace DYRL with Escaflowne.
k I will change the mecha section up. I was waiting for your reply.

In general, I'm uncomfortable with you removing any shows you haven't actually seen, because how would you know if they're good or not?
Let's get this straight. Everyone has their own opinions. What is the one way to rate shows above others? You have to go by common consensus. This means that a show that is "better done" than another may not make it, but a general consensus gives a good idea of what may be enjoyed by more people. When you make a recommendation you don't just go, "Okay this anime was good so you should watch it." That's bad recommendation. Some are more complicated in terms of depth and style and so might not be as liked by the masses. So in this case, K-On > Bartender and Outlaw Star > Real Drive. Both have extreme popularity and are generally accepted as good/great by those who've watched it. On the other hand, how many recommendations do you think Bartender and Real Drive get compared to K-On and Outlaw Star? I'm not saying they're worse shows, especially since I haven't seen those two, but you have to weigh more than just how good they may be to you before you make a recommendation.
There are some others on that list (like Mononoke) that are pretty weird (but still very good), but I don't think I see anything good enough to replace them, so they stay. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree totally. I was very hesitant placing it under romance. What category do you think it should be under?

This chart is just for the people that come here and ask like " I watched Death Note, now I wanna watch other good anime help plx" Yeah, exactly. The chart is there for the neophytes, which are completely new to anime and have only watched like 1-2 shows, and don't know what to do next. Although I'm also embarrassed by that chart. Not only have I not watched like 90% of it, but I don't even recognize the names of the shows on that chart, rofl. Some of those shows listed there, seem really old judging by the drawing style. some of those shows look like they are from the late 80s and 90s That's when good anime was made. ああああああああああああああああああああああああああああああああああああああ! Good anime is still made now. : /
A ton of anime on that list get recommended a lot. Chances are if someone comes in asking for recommendations when they've only seen like three anime they'll want to have the best choices available.

I don't know, the problem with some of these is that they are hard to place under only one category, Let's say we can put Lucky Star as moe, what can we put for TWOGK? Some of these more hybrid genres really should just get another section to themselves.
I mean, Bake packages romance and psychological within the same package with plenty of fanservice and moe, where does that leave us lol.
Oh and Bartender easily > k-on if we go w/ iyashi-kei and slice of life over moeblob. At that I don't know what k-on does well other than the moeblob. At least it has Ui though.

Should we just create another category for moeblobs so they don't take the place of shows with actual depth?
Some of the shows are hard to categorize but we have to put them somewhere. =/

That's all true, but it doesn't change the fact that if you haven't seen a show, you can't speak credibly about it. Your case basically boils down "I don't know what bartender is like so it doesn't belong on a chart" which is not a case.
Most anime recommendations suck. Also, I treat this list as more than just a recommendation list for people who are totally new, but people who have watched a lot of stuff. I personally have seen some really good shows based on this list that I would not have watched otherwise.
