For me this arc is the best so far.. When DD falls we will have Luffy and the crew really improve and become a respected and feared force.. full of powerfull new allies and many more enemies! I really like this because we can see that they are going forward. About Sanji.. come on guys he is one of the strongest and i'm sure we will have time to shine, especially since he is with nami, brook and the tanuki ;D, for sure they will have a big impact later in the arc PS: the anime was good and next episode where we will see DD beating up Luffy seems to have a very good animation and very good fight scenes

Of course I'm only half kidding, I still think Sanji is the third strongest in the crew but it really is insane that it's been a full year since we've a good chunk of the crew. Just goes to show exactly how much is going on in this arc. It's so jam packed I think Oda used big mom as an excuse to write out Sanji, Nami, Brook and Chopper to cut down hugely on the people he has to show.

My biggest fear is that this won't be a temporary change and that some of the least popular straw hats will stay gone or become side actual characters. And while I do think getting rid of Sanji is the right move, I dont want to lose Brooke or Nami. We'll see where this takes us but it's very possible that this temporary change might turn into something less temporary.

Is there a source on that? Jump can go screw themselves, intervening in One Piece like that.

That's just how manga is though... series that were supposed to end get drawn out because sales are good, series that aren't immediately popular get cut before they even have the chance.

Basically they told Oda to add in more "fresh blood" and thus we have the introduction of so many new reoccuring characters. This arc is in some sense a trial by fire to add new real estate to the manga while scrapping some of the old temporarily. Does Japan really like robots that much? I think the issue is more along the lines of Oda has so many main characters that they don't have much screen time, and so they get reduced to their most prominent traits. Some of the strawhats just have more interesting/easy prominent traits than others. I mean, since the timeskip Sanji has basically just been "that nosebleed guy", without adding much else. He needs more screen time for his good traits (mainly his chivalry) to actually show. Robin meanwhile is a serious/mystery type, so she can literally stand around doing nothing and be playing her part just fine. All that's needed from her is for her to discover something every once in a while, and say something dark. I actually don't miss the other strawhats that much right now. I like Nami more due to how she interacts with Luffy/Zoro/Robin/Ussop than for her actual personality. Same with Chopper. Brook remains the least developed character (apart from Franky), so there's not too much to miss with him, and then there's Sanji. Maybe Oda will have the secondary group lose against Big Mom, separating them for even longer and creating a rescue arc where the new Straw hat alliance attacks Big Mom (and Kaido joins in mid-way).

Oda is notorious for doing whatever he wants and not letting editors change his story. On January 28 2015 05:15 killa_robot wrote: That can't be right. That would mean Franky is actually popular. At least way higher than Robin and Franky. Chopper has a whole line of merchandise THEMED only after him.

Instead, I think it's just a clever way to simplify the arc slightly while keeping us interested in what happened to the other characters. It's amazing that it's been over a year since we saw Sanji and co and every chapter I'm still waiting for that one frame of Sunny sailing away from a pile of floating wood (wishful thinking). I'm sure Sanji + others will get plenty of screen-time in the upcoming arc. Simplifying an already overcomplicated arc is a very smart thing and I wish Oda had chosen the same path with the dwarves by cutting them out of this arc and putting them into a different one. The story progression has been slow since their introduction and I feel like they were an unnecessary addition. The story could have been streamlined a little more to keep the pacing better. Oh well, the final battles seem to be right around the corner now and the dwarves will probably be a thing of the past shortly.
