In other words, it wasn't a fair fight.

Now its luffy and the others who are the younglings Oden and Kaido are roughly the same age. Both would have been in their thirties 20 yrs ago.

Luffy beat Katakuri last arc who's second to only Big Mom. Try this on for size: Luffy beat Crocodile before he got his gears or Haki. Mihawk is the "greatest swordsman" and dueled with Shanks - which logically puts him on a similar level to Shanks. Then during the Whitebeard war, Crocodile was able to stop Mihawk in his tracks.

Oda had hard time trying to fit every characters in one place and giving each character their shining moment. If all admirals, shichibukai tried it would've been over in 3 mins probably but obviously that's not the typical storyline he would want. Had to somehow stall so wb pirates and luffy's escapees shine but in the end we basically know who lost.

But I would go even further and say power scales in general are useless and fights in One Piece are there only to serve the story. Oda's main job is to build tension and provide resolution, which is why Luffy "loses" to villains and then comes back and beats them. Applying logic like a power scale to One Piece is ridiculous and a waste of time.

It keeps adding weight and meaning to things we have seen in previous chapters. The sacrifice of Kinemon's wife is another good example. Orochi inspires a lot of hate and disgust, he's a great villain.

After defeat, will Orochi end up doing the usual front page stories where he ends up using his devil fruit powers for good and beats up some pirates and then becomes a successful businessman celebrated by the local town? Or do you guys reckon Orochi would be too much of a bad guy for that?
