I guess thats what threw me off, its a very bankai-y shikai

I think she killed him with her bankai (melting his flesh away) and resurrected him one final time. That final stab he gave her let her know that he was almost done "unlocking" his power and needed the final push, her ultimate attack. Hence the mastery of her healing powers, for this day, the final fight with Kenpachi. That's my take.

For her bankai, I think it's either one of these two scenarios:
First would be that it's a illusion type zanpakto like Aizen's or Shinjis. Second would be that her blade becomes an acid style, disintegrating human flesh and that's why she became such an amazing healer as she developed her skills because of her lust for battle. She had to find a way to overcome the "inconvenience" of having a bankai burn through everything, so she could still continue using it in battle.
The second scenario is based off something I read on the Bleach subreddit. It's in the chapter discussion (or chapter release thread) and he explained it a lot better than I did, and in a lot more depth, so go check that out if your still curious.
Just note, these are just speculations.

I feel like the Zaraki, Unohana relationship could make for some pretty good fanfics. :/
|
That was stupid. I have no idea what her bankai or shikai do. I also can't stand Kenpachi. This blows.

Pretty much what everyone expects at this point, no?

its a tie with episode one
i dont get why people are trying to make sense of Unohanas Bankai she only has one because Kubo was killing her off so decided to have her use one then immediately kill her so he didnt ahve to explain the fuck it did

So if Unohana "trained" Zaraki until he was stronger than her until he is able to kill her, how the hell does that really help their overall cause in increasing Soul Society's strength? Say Zaraki becomes just a little stronger than Unohana and is able to finally beat her in battle, you trade 1 Unohana level captain + 1 Zaraki level captain and you end up with 1 Unohana+ (a very tiny +) level captain. Seems like a terrible trade off unless Zaraki skyrocketed a ridiculous amount in power.

Unohana was getting owned by Zaraki before Zaraki started unconsciously holding back so assuming that Zaraki is no longer holding back at all, and adding in some growth on account of him being so much older hed easily be on the same level as the 0th division guys

It's more likely that he was only unlocked to the level that allowed him to beat Unohana. He could have possibly gotten much stronger. Of course now we'll never know =P.

Yeah, I don't think Zaraki is going to get near CC's level.

if Unohana thought he was still holding back shed continue the fight, im willing to bet whatever it was that stopped Zaraki from dieing wasnt Unohana
hell we dont actually know Unohana is even dead

She said it herself that she kept reviving/healing him during their fight.

He did notice though. During the fight he dropped his sword after being stabbed, next scene he's talking about wondering what happened because now he's holding his sword magically and he's not hurt. Then again he says hes blacking out and then he's magically fully aware again and fighting with all he has. And then we don't even know what her bankai did and why the panels turned to skeletons for no reason and then everything was back to normal.
