You could call it changing from a sword to a 3part staff or swinging mace etc an ability. Definitely opens up a different style of fighting with possibility of more attack options.

We don't actually know whether or not it's current form would look the way it would if Zaraki communicated with it normally like everyone else. Anything of those lines would be pure speculation.

Rapiers are meant to be thrust and generally suck at cutting things like a katana, whereas katana are generally slash swords.

Definitely opens up a different style of fighting with possibility of more attack options. how is Zarakis serrated sword any different from a rapier? his sword cuts better then a normal sword, with his personality (pruposely giving himself disadvantages that he can remove depending on his opponents ability (IE eyepatch and only using one hand)) his Shikai is waht hed want he wouldnt want any tricky sneaky special weapon or ability hes a very straightforwad guy with a very straightforward sword Rapiers are meant to be thrust and generally suck at cutting things like a katana, whereas katana are generally slash swords. i meant how is Zarakis sword only changing to be serrated any different from leitanant guys sword only changing to be a rapier neither offer any super power or lazor beam or special ability
It's probably better in some way. Ichigo's shikai is his huge curved sword, which doesn't seem better, but when he was first (ever) fighting his hollow (during Kenpachi battle) he realized it was better than a random sword that he was stuck using while his Hollow used his shikai version.

I wonder why Stark still somehow appears in Bleach. Kyouraku was fighting with dude who used double pistols (again) and after this fight he is wearing same eye-patch as Stark did. Perhaps after next fight he will steal those pistols, change hairstyle and become Stark 2.0 :D
Actually, Stark's power was soul split. Maybe Kyoraku is possesed by Primera?^^

What are you talking about? Stark died during his battle with the Vizards/Captains.
