Seen quite a few movies over the past few days so I will use spoilers to avoid killing your scroll button :S

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
National Treasure - This was ok. The villians were so boring, and the storyline is just so ridiculous, but it did have some good action in it.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets - Mostly dissapointing. They had fucking Ed Harris as the villian but they put him into this cookie-cutter "im a badguy because im bad" character. Still, I found the adventuring in this funner to watch, sorta reminded me of Uncharted in some parts.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Thor - Ok, I went in expecting a lot, with pretty good RT scores (over 80% at the time) and with praise from friends/family who have seen it. The first 20 minutes were pretty good, alot of action, this is what I want to see from a summer blockbuster. Then he gets to earth with no powers and I am bored shitless. When he has his hammer, its a boring rapefest, and when he doesnt, hes just completely useless. I was also disappointed with how lame Natalie Portmans character was, they barely used her at all I feel like. Seems as if they just tried to shit this out fast so they can get back to work on The Avengers. Oh well, hopefully Captain America is better.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Mother - Korean crime drama movie. A mentally handicapped boy is accused of murder, and the attorney his mom hired completely fucks up his case. It's up to his mother to clear her son's name by any means necessary. Really liked this.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
The Host - Korean monster movie, not much more to say. Was pretty good.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Paprika - Really great, and wierd as hell. It's easy to see why Nolan was influenced by this when he made Inception.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
H - Korean crime thriller. They catch a notorious serial killer, but the killings continue, along with his traits of the murders. They use him to sort of get inside his head and help find the copycat killer. I would say this is a loose variation of the theme used in Silence of the Lambs. Overall, it was ok though, nothing really special about it.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Goemon - Japanese version of Robin Hood basically. The CG here is sorta hit and miss though. Sometimes it looks great, othertimes really horrible. Still, I really liked this, alot of good action in this. The only thing I really hated about it was having to view it in english dubbing (streamed it via netflix). The voice acting isn't bad, but I think it would be alot better via the original voice acting and subtitles.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Ichi - Blind swordswoman searchs for the man who trained her. I liked it overall, had some good swordfighting scenes, and it's not afraid to show some violence. The pacing is what kills it for me though, its just too slow, and the guy she travels with is a fuckin pussy most of the time.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Black Swan - Holy shit, why did I wait so long to see this? So fucking good.
+ Show Spoiler +
Just curious if Nina died at the end or not. Most people think she did.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Thirst - Park Chan-Wook really put a good twist on the standard vampire movie formula, quite enjoyed it.

Grrr. I was gonna write a blog today, but I accidentally closed the notepad window I was writing it in without saving so this will have to do for my contribution.

Easy A is a pretty good movie if you enjoy it for what it is: a comedy.

If you watch the trailer, you'll know how the movie goes, and I could constantly predict what would happen. It's also kind of weird to watch twenty five year old+'s play as high schoolers. The characters are really generic.

Ok so when I was watching the movie, I didn't try to analyze any of the above, I just watched it for what it was, and I was smiling a lot. The movie is cute and funny.

As a comedy: 9/10
As a movie: 8/10

Not good. They ruined the twist by spoiling it like 15 minutes into the movie
+ Show Spoiler +

Yup, US academic professor doing crazy stuff in the car with manual transmission, totally believable...

and then they tried to make a second twist, which wasn't unexpected either and wasn't that good to begin with.

All in all, it's a failed attempt at creating another Bourne Identity. I won't even rate it as I'm too disappointed with this movie to even put it on any scale.

I waited two weeks for this... not worth it.

I remembered a few posts in this exact thread (which can't be found using search functions for some reason) that people said this movie was good. This is just a what the fuck movie... as in what just happened? Did I just get trolled by a movie producer? And before you say "herp derp! you're just herp stupid and it herp flew over your derp head" no, I'm pretty sure that's not what happened.

All the while I was hoping the movie might take a turn, or I was arguing with myself over maybe why something was subpar.

1/10

God... as a fairy tale, this kind of writing might have passed for the ancient greeks... but I'd expected more from something in the twenty-first century.

I saw Thor today, and I actually rather enjoyed it. I don't really understand why it has taken so much heat. I think it develops its characters much better than your average marvel flick at worst, and at best it is pretty damn awesome in general.

o.O

Perhaps it is a hit and miss kind of thing.

One of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Comparable in many ways to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don't remember the last time I saw a movie that had such a profound effect on me. If you claim to be someone who appreciates movies (or art in general, really), you're doing yourself a great disservice by not seeing this film.

first class was actually pretty good. way better than the last two movies

I was disappointed in the Mystique sub plot. It felt ...a little bit forced. (and she is by far my favorite along with wolverine)

While Charles /Erik was a very cool relationship that played out extremely awesome!

I hope something good can grow out of this if they manage a good followup the franchise might get popular again.

You exaggerate too much. I think in terms of ratings and just overall enjoyment, movies like Black Swan were better.

God dude this couldn't be more by numbers. It's like they actually made a film cookie cutter.

But yeah. Natalie Portman. In her pants.

Yesterday I watched

Been sick the past few days so watched alot lately....spoilers again to cut down on post length
+ Show Spoiler +

Fast Five - One of the better FF movies. Alot more action/guns going off then in previous movies. Thought the Rock did pretty good as his role of the tough special agent, definantly a role that suits him.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
City of Men - Great movie. Not as good at City of God though, but then again it did have tough shoes to fill.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Gridiron Gang - The Rock plays a worker at a juvenile detention center and sparks up an idea to make a football team out of some of them. The story is everything you would expect it to be, but it does it rather well. Considering the bad reviews I heard beforehand, I found this to be ok. Watchable, but forgettable as well.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Taxi Driver - Sad to say it was my first time seeing this. Robert De Niro steals the movie as a marine vet who suffers from insomnia and takes a job as a taxi driver at night. Just fucking amazing. One of those movies that I wonder why it took me so long to see it.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Drunken Angel - From all the Kurosawa films I have seen so far, I have probably enjoyed this one the least. I do have Ran sitting in its netflix envelope still though. Looking forward to it.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Crips and Bloods: Made in America - I was looking forward to this, unfortunantly what I got mostly was a half-assed attempt at a documentary. It only gives names to the people who founded the gangs, talks a little bit about how they got started. A former gang member who is racist as hell gets way more screentime then necessary. Pretty disappointed by this.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
Letters From Iwo Jima - Shows the Battle of Iwo Jima from the Japanese perspective. It's a bit slow to get to the action but that's ok in this case since they take time getting to know the commanders of the Japanese defenders as well as the soldiers. By the time the battle starts you really feel the helplessness the Japanese soldiers felt being outnumbered and knowing that no reinforcements were coming, that the island was going to be their grave. Really impressed with this, was so much better then Flags for our Fathers.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
On The Waterfront - Marlon Brando is amazing as the former boxer turned dockworker who takes down the mob, and their grip on the dockworkers. Lee J. Cobb is amazing as well as the mob connected union boss who exploits his workers and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in his way. Really great movie.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
X-Men: First Class - Not really a fan of X-men, this was the first of the movies that I can remember seeing to completion. Overall, I liked it though.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
I Saw The Devil - Finally became available for streaming on netflix this week. More violent than I expected, but so fucking amazing.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
X-Men - Pretty fucking shitty.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
The Chinese Connection - Classic Bruce Lee film. The english dubbing is fucking horrendous, but by the end of the movie I was laughing over it.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]
13 Assassins - As a sadistic young lord rules with an iron fist, an aging samurai decides to enlist of 12 other samurai to take him down. Amazing movie.

Watched Starship Troopers with a few friends last night, hadn't seen it in a few years. I expect most of you have already seen it already but it's worth a watch if you haven't, generally entertaining, some good TvZ-esque action and Denise Richards is pretty damn hot in it.
