Carol - One of the best love stories I've seen. Unforgettable characters and excellent acting by the leads and supporting cast. The ending is perfect.
The Big Short - Interesting perspective on the mortgage crisis from the people who saw it before it happened. It does a good job of explaining a lot of what was happening. The only thing is there isn't much suspense when you already know what is coming.
Bridge of Spies - For a Cold war spy story, there isn't much suspense. Spielberg wasn't really subtle in showing the paranoia and mentality of the anti-Soviet masses, and it kind of loses it's believability (Although I shouldn't say that as someone is stoking a similar fire in the U.S.). Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks, the voice of reason and charm.
Spotlight - the shame of the Catholic church revealed by investigative journalists. These priests should be jailed. Sad that the church kept reassigning them instead. Tough to be mad at the church now that they are led by Pope Francis.

Just got home from a midnight screening of Civil War. Part of me wished they used a completely different name for the movie. But I guess it's a marketing decision to get the comic book readers in on it?
The only major plot similarity it has (that i can think of) with the comics is that it is Iron Man vs Captain America. The SRA and the reason for it is loosely based on the comics.
Once you've gotten past that (if you've read the comics), it is a good action movie. Got to admit I was a little bit sceptical of it since I've read the comics. But this movie is based on the comics, not a like for like replica (as are all the other products of MCU).
Tom Holland aka Peter Parker aka Spider-Man was great. Also Marisa Tomei, god damn, hard to believe she's 51 :O I'm looking forward to Spider-Man: Homecoming since i'm a huge spidey fan.
RT gave it a 97%. I can see why. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Lastly, stay for the mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene for those who are wondering if there are any. So that's 2 in total.

Didn't read the comics, really enjoyed the movie. On par with Avengers. Agree that spiderman is really, really good. Antman did great too.
This is what batman vs superman should've been. So damn good.

I haven't watch any of the Captain America films, they all looked sub par, however this one really intrigues me, mainly because Spiderman is in it, is there any issue jumping straight into number 3? Or do i need the background story?
|
I'm like you Pande, never liked Cap, never watched movies 1 & 2.
It wasn't a problem. During the break I asked my friends some background on the winter soldier, but no need to watch the movies. Though they keep repeating how awesome the 2nd movie is so I'll watch it now I guess.

Captain America 1 was pretty bad.
Captain America 2 is imho the best superhero movie there is.
Sooo... Watch Cap 2.

While I liked Captain America 2, I think Iron Man 1 and Avengers 1 were much better and more fun.

Yeah i like Iron Man and Avengers movies too, so i guess i'll watch Captain America 2 and 3 to keep up to date with where the films are heading.

Capt America: Civil War
+ Show Spoiler +Headed into flick with decent expectations for this movie and it still managed to exceed my expectations. I appreciated the fact they excluded Thor/Hulk as they would be too powerful and tip the already balanced conflicting sides. The main villain's plan was actually very elaborate to get Iron man to go apeshit on Capt and that was pretty cool. There was also nice character buildup for the upcoming Black Panther and Spidermanv3 films. Overall, I would give this marvel film a 9/10, very nice action scenes, light humor, and plot progression/buildup before the "twist" was revealed showing the the source of Iron Man's long term emotional distress.

Batman v Superman. Expected much more before watching the movie... For every fans of Dixie Chicks: Dixie Chicks Tour is on its way in many of the US cities! Don't miss it so buy the ticket!

Room - Movie was alright. Good lead and child acting, though the story doesn't resonate with me. Perhaps it was just too bleak. Pawn Sacrifice - Bobby Fischer vs. Boris Spassky chess match during the cold war. Chess makes you crazy. Fun movie though. The Revenant - Good movie. Man against nature and natives and a freakin bear. Still can't see past Leonardo just being Leonardo and not the character. Predestination - good mind fck movie. Slow to start but entertaining after the time travelling starts.

My favorite part of Civil War was Spiderman.
Really really looking forward to his standalone movie.

10 Cloverfield Lane
Don't wanna give anything away. If you like Super 8, you'll like this.

Kill Command
Pretty good movie (wasn't expecting that). It really gives off this vibe of old "bad robot" movies, which is nice. The story is simple but it actually works to the movie's benefit since it didn't have large enough budget to try and pull anything really ambitious. I've enjoyed it never the less. Special effects were decent enough.

London Has Fallen
If you've seen Olympus Has Fallen and you thought it was really bad (and rightfully so) then I have to warn you that this is much, much worse.
Avoid like a plague. Watching this movie might actually lower your IQ by quite a large margin.

Nightcrawler (2014)
One of the slimiest, morally impaired, misanthropic, terrifying but excellent performances I've seen on film. It's a reflection on how the public's desire for bloodier and scarier news stories push people like Gyllenhaal's character to push the boundaries of what we consider ethical for a good report. Anyone interested in media, journalism or just great acting and tense moments should watch this.
Whiplash (2014)
An examination of how far someone would go to achieve greatness. J.K Simmons deserved his Oscar for his performance, and Miles Teller did pretty good. For a movie about drum performance and its technicalities it is understandable for anyone without training or interest in music, it's ultimately about the struggle. Really entertaining to watch in general.

The Nice Guys (2016)
I just watched it last night. I was laughing throughout the whole movie. It is definitely my top 5 favorite movies of all times. Ryan Gosling and russell crowe are fantasic together!!!
|
i just watched John Carter and it was awesome. its a fantasy scifi adventure with sick CGI if you're wondering, go watch it
i also watched the new Star Wars on like my 4th attempt and it was shit except the ending scene (i'm a sucker for ending scenes)
also i watched Wolf Children because princess yui mizuno said she was watching it and it was great, i cried a little. its a high budget anime movie about a woman growing up with her two children who are partially wolf. don't read imdb or other synopsis, just stick it on sometime
|
Wolf Children... It's one of the few anime movies I cried watching. There's that, Grave of the Fireflies and Laputa(which isn't even sad). I kinda wanna see more sad animes.
|
laputa is one of my like top 10/5 movies
hmmm ... i thought Shinsekai Yori (not a movie) was moving, in a disturbing way
