Watched It Follows the other day.
I absolutely loved it, found it terrifying, well shot and a good antidote to the standard horror movies punted out.
That being said I recommended it to some other friends and they all hated it.
It's not a movie about jump scares, but tension and atmosphere so if you can't get into it you might not find it scary and they weren't the sort of crowd who enjoys films enough to notice good cinematography or interesting approaches to making film (not an insult, it takes time and interest to develop).
It's very reminiscent of John Carpenters Halloween, which were probably my favourite films, not just horror films, in my early teens so if you didn't like any of that stuff its probably not for you but I think its on Netflix at the moment.
Also the score is by the same guy who did the score for Fez, its amazing.
Solid 8-9/10 for me.

The Big Short
Style is kind of funky, but I liked it.
Good Will Hunting (for the 100th time)
One of my all time favorite movies
Begin Again
Indieish movie, and I liked it

Haven't seen Big Lebowski but watched Fargo a few months ago and didn't understand what the big deal is with the movie. Maybe back then the brutality and some of the unpredictability is new, but now it is not that uncommon anymore. I guess I'd say some movies by the Coen's I enjoy a lot and some are boring.
I've heard about It Follows and it sounds scary.
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation - Forget about the plot and just enjoy the action. Everest - I now have new found appreciation for people who have safely climbed that mountain. The preparation and unpredictability and the narrow window of opportunity to climb it is all new to me. Good movie!

Wolf on Wall Street
8/10
Didnt expect that much nudity/sex/drugs but it kept me hooked regardless of the rated R stuff

That being said, there are things I get more out of being from the state it is set in.

I love the Big Lebowsky... But only when i saw it the second time in the right mood, the first time i tought it was boring but now? I just love it and watch it again and again.

There is a little bit more dick than that and that shot seemed like an eternity. Surprised you guys didn't notice considering the camera just stays there >_<

I think its not an easy film to enjoy if you try and focus on the plot, because it makes very little sense at all, but each scene is genius in its own way.

WARNING if you follow the link to the documentary please be aware its very NSFW, and its not really for kids it has video of assassinations and some quite brutal battle aftermath video too.

Bitter Lake by Adam Curtis
An incredibly well made documentary, made from the millions of hours of unused news footage in the BBC archives. Its 2 1/4 hours long, feature an awesome soundtrack by Burial, and is genuinely an audiovisual treat.
Curtis uses bits of information to tell a story, a heavily skewed, biased and socialist story, but a compelling one none the less. If you treat it as a sort of fictional retelling of western involvement in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia its awesome, but if it clashes with your political views you should watch it anyway just for the excellent editing and the general experience of watching it. 10/10 A masterpiece of documentary storytelling.

You are aware of course that you can't view it outside the UK?
You can YouTube it, but the sound is gone there (Dailymotion has it in full).

Yeah my post does state that the link for UK viewers only but I didn't want to post an unofficial one here because I think its against the rules.

Never watched it before, and it's beyond me that so many people like that film. It might be the worst movie I've ever seen. Nothing happens at all, it's incredibly boring. 2-3 funny scenes but thats about it. hey at least you finished it, i turned it off after an hour. too cringe, I imagine the same people that think futurama is funny enjoy it.
Glad to see that I am not the only one. We actually thought about turning it off after an hour, but I guess that it was so exhausting that we had no energy left to get up and turn the tv off. So we just got over with it.

Now I have to listen to CCR all morning though :p
I actually liked the other Cohen Brothers movies I've watched so far, but this one...The humour is just too stupid. And yes, the music is actually the best thing about it.

Can't win them all I suppose, could also be a victim of expectations as well..

Immortal
One of the worst CGI sequences to ever come into existence. One of the best sci-fi movies to ever come into existence. It reminded me of the classics like Dark City or Donnie Darko with its surreal atmosphere. I still can't decide if CGI and action scenes were so shitty in it on purpose and if it was a deliberate process of not taking stuff that isn't vital to the movie seriously (unlike in modern movies, where action sequences tend to be the major selling points).
Highly recommended.

Death Race (1, 2 and 3)
It's bullshit at its finest. Dumb and ridiculous. I have absolutely no idea why I've watched all 3 of them and enjoyed it (might be nostalgia thing after playing so much Vigilante 2nd Offense in my youth). For any future viewers, I suggest you watch them in the plot chronological order (2, 3, 1) - this will save you a lot of confusion.

Death Race is really dumb bullshit that somehow is fun. Not a good movie at all but somehow it works, grab some beers with friends and laugh together at its ridiculousness.
|
Death Race 2000 is the epitome of that weird 70s and 80s campy movies theme. It's a movie about literally killing hundreds of people with cars and it's built like a campy dark comedy.
