Also that evil guy freeing Theon and handing him back to his original captors at least saved Theon from being gangraped by a bunch of soldiers. I can't imagine what's worse, being gangraped or being captured and tortured. Both are horrible fates. . Anyway he WAS saved from gangrape though. what would keep him from being gang rapped when he was returned?

Not sure.. Being gangraped by angry men is no pleasure. I doubt they'd be gentle enough to lube his buttocks. I think it would hurt equally as having your teeth ripped out or fingernails pulled. besides it would leave you scarred for life and without a sense of honor.
Anyway it is all very very cruel.

I also think the Daenerys part is not good. "Here is my entire army. I hope you don't do anything bad with it (like taking back all the money and the dragon you just paid me) because I could do absolutely nothing about it."
Unfortunately Daenerys more and more seems like a total Mary Sue. She is inhumanly perfect. Born of high blood, beautiful, tragic past, mother of dragons, liberator of slaves, very mature for her young age, fireproof... there are no flaws or weaknesses in her character whatsoever.

i don't think it's such a problem, though. there are like 10 other stories going on that keeps hers fresh. and who knows what kind of developments there'll be that turns her being 'perfect' on her head. i mean, she's just getting started. only NOW has she gotten her army, and i doubt it's gonna be all flowers from here on out--she'll make mistakes, i'm sure. (im guessing)

I agree with this.
With most other characters, you see that they are realistic. They have flaws, life does not come easy for them, and they have to work just to struggle by in existence. Even some of the better off characters (i.e. Jaime) face hardships.
Daenerys...meh. Like, she deals with morons like that slave trader guy and mostly just gets lucky everywhere. You have to be some real special level of stupid to 1. not know who Daenerys is, 2. agree to such a stupid trade, and 3. actually get fucked over in the most obvious way possible by your own army.

Never saw it that way til you wrote it down
At the same time, it's clear that he's disconsidering her a lot ('dumb bitch etc') and also he's really blinded by his own greed. Perfect recipe to drop your guard down.

Perhaps cultural flaws caused him not to anticipate what happened. The slave master had never thought that he was not still in control, he had trained them, they answered to him first.
If you train a puppy for a year and then sell that dog to a new owner do you think the dog will obey the new owner, or your commands? I imagine that is exactly the line of thinking the slave master had. The Unsullied are subhuman to him.

He probably assumed he was even safer with the dragon than with an army of unsullied? Since a dragon is worth more than any army. Until he found out that a dragon cannot be controlled.

I think there are flaws, they just havent come out in a tragic way yet. She was naive as hell [on top of being docile], and I'd still say she is to a great degree. Look what happened last season with the wizards and that rich dude, she almost lost everything.

I would argue that Daenerys is rather stubborn and insensitive to foreign culture/traditions which more than once has brought her into trouble. I think she has her flaws, and as such I do think of her as a headfast woman with a strong sense of morality and fairness.
|
If she was perfect her husband and her son would still live. They died because she trusted the witch when many people around her told her not to.
|
Daenerys ordered an old women to burn to death for speaking her mind/blackmagic that didn't go as wonderful as expected. She also threatens the merchants at Qarth she'll burn them with her dragons if they don't help her. I wouldn't say she's infallible.

oh man i had to watch the dragon scene like 10x. So well done. Dany and her dragons was always my favorite storyline. What a boss.

I'm so confused about the whole theon thing... when did he even get to the torture chamber? I just remember him occupying wintefell....
|
Dany might look superhuman now, but so would someone like Alexander the Great at his peak or Julius Caezar. It all depends how and when you look at it. All great man in history in addition to their personal advantages had to have lots of luck to accomplish what they did.
|
Did you all forget the slave master thought Dany was basically retarded and insulted her this whole time? There is NO way he knew she would be smart enough to turn on him. It seemed obvious to us, but I'm sure he dealt with people who were legitimately as stupid as he thought she was all the time, so he didn't expect it.
It's really not as far-fetched as many people here make it out to be.

in the last episode of season 2 Theon makes a pretty good speech and at the end of that speech he gets knocked unconscious by his own men. His men then give him over to save their own skins.

I actually really liked the Daenerys was quite good, Those dragons are really becoming monsters and now she has dragons AND an sickly loyal army. Pretty good move to free them and then take them out for war

yea the theon thing was kinda weird, what were the real motives of that dude to lead him back? Is he just a troll who enjoys suffering? Nd how did Theon really not notice the general direction they were headed >_>
