Crows are what the wildlings call the members of the Night's Watch. the White Walkers = The Others. just another name for them.

And were the men who captured Jaime and Brienne doing so on Robb's actual orders? Or are we not supposed to know that yet.

Since Robb never authorized the release of Jaime and has even incarcerated his Mother due to her actions, I think we can assume that he gave orders to have him recaptured.

All you know for certain is that: 1. Lord Bolton told Robb that he sent his bastard to liberate Winterfell in season 2. It seemed like they were the ones who had it surrounded and offered to let the other Ironborn go if they turned over Theon. 2. the Ironborn knocked Theon out, Winterfell was put to the torch, and we haven't seen any confirmed Ironborn other than Theon since then. Perhaps they turned Theon over and were let go. Perhaps they burned the castle and escaped thru the secret tunnels Maester Luwin mentioned to Theon and took Theon with them and it was Ironborn who were torturing him. The show hasn't said for sure so any thing more is speculation or book spoilers. 3) Roose Bolton told Robb that his Bastard arrived too late and Winterfell was already burned and everyone there was killed when he arrived and Bran and Rickon were missing. Which either his bastard lied about for some reason, or some one else had Winterfell surrounded when Theon was knocked out and we just assumed it was Bolton's bastard. Robb sent men out to find Jaime and bring him back, but they haven't given any indications on the show that his orders included cutting off his hand.

If you remember (I think it was in the first episode of S3) Lord Bolton actually said that he has sent his best man after Jaime. They are sporting Lord Bolton's banners so presumably they are acting on Robb's orders (technically on Lord Boltons).

It might be an important hint that the guy who helped Theon escape said "Winter is coming" after rescueing him from being raped. So he might be one of the Stark's allies. And why would an Iron Islander use the Stark's slogan? It seems like he also lied to Theon about his sister. She didn't show up after all.

When they said "wights" I heard "whites" and thought it was a shorter way of saying white walkers. I only understood that they meant the blue eyed zombies after I saw it with English subtitles.

It's actually the opposite. White walkers are the creatures that raise the wights. White walker is what was staring at Sam at the end of season 2 with the spear on the dead horse. They are some other race completely. Wights on the other hand are reanimated humans who act alot like zombies.

Winter is coming doesn't literally refer to the White Walkers. Literally it just means that summer is over and it's time to prepare for winter (which in GoT-land can last for years, hence the pre-occupation with being ready). So it's kind of a weird thing to say if he wasn't affiliated with the Starks (unless he was being clever and saying the Stark troops would be coming soon, but I don't think anyone's used their motto to refer to them).

Well winter is literally coming, and it has nothing to do directly with the White Walkers. They mentioned it in season 1 when Tyrion was at the Wall talking to Commander Mormont. They talked about how summers and winters last for years, sometimes decades, and this summer was coming to an end and the next winter would be particularly long because this summer had lasted so long. According to what Sam said he did not get off any birds. Which considering he was surrounded by white walkers and some how escaped and was running when Mormont saved him, I have no idea when he was supposed to have a chance to send any ravens. They are retreating back to the wall now to warn everyone. Of course who knows if anyone will believe them, since most people consider White Walkers to be a myth.

(though show didnt show it, it seemed like it) when the warg with mance said he saw dead crows, and when they arrived at the scene there were dead horses in a spiral formation and no dead bodies. i assume this is where the battle took place between mormont and "the others" before mormont met up with sam. maybe i'm confusing myself and should rewatch the first 3 episodes lol
