Wow I really didn't expect Tywin to cast Tyrion aside like that. What's up with the whole he killed his mother during birth? I assumed death from child birth was common in Westeros...was she somehow important?

Definitely looking forward to Jon Snow's story line...and of course god knows what Little Finger is cooking up.

I was sad I didn't get to see Varys. Super stoked about Ser Barristan coming back. Overall great premier, god I can't wait till next week! Daenerys hwaiting!

No, looks the same but with a beard and not in fancy armor.

And while the blue lips and teleportation power suggests it is warlocks, I thought it would make more sense for the face changing dudes since the assassination was actually a little toy and not just *teleport in, stab stab teleport out*
And I dont think they have crossed the narrow sea. They are moving more east, further away from Westeros.

Sure but this is Tywin Lannister. He is an intelligent, rational, and direct man, and surrendering to "emotions" and making excuses are not things he does. Of course, he is still human, and we all have that one thing which gets to us. I suspect this is the one thing that gets under his skin. Maybe he had planned to have more children with his wife to carry on the family name, and her death took that opportunity away from him.

Damn, if Margerie was actually sincere in her kindness towards the poor then that was pretty unexpected. Seems like she'd probably be a really good queen.

As a dwarf, Tyrion is a "gods-cursed freak" in this similar-to-middle-ages culture. It is one thing to lose your wife to childbirth in exchange for a typical child, and another to lose her in exchange for that.

Not that it is rational of course. Worse, the whoring and lack of accomplishments parts are more or less Tywin's fault. He pushes his son out to the fringe of high society, allows him nothing but an obligatory access to the family wealth, and is disappointed when Tyrion doesn't fill his time with 'worthy pursuits'?

Tywin is a master strategist and what have you in most areas, but he is blind where his children are concerned. Worse, he rejects the evidence when it is specifically brought to his attention as Tyrion attempted. Some people just need a sharp punch in the gut to quickly jolt their senses into a firmer grasp of the situation.

You really overestimate how rational Tywin is. He's been seething with bitterness towards Tyrion since the day his wife died.

One of the things you have to read in to is the fact that Tywin never remarried. In a time and place where marriage is power and money, it's a notable thing for him to have never remarried after all these umpteen years. So yea, it's one of these few things he is still "emotional" about.

I think she really was sincere, which is prolly why Cercei was giving her the stink eye during dinner (out of envy). Or maybe Cercei knew what act she was playing and wished she could act that well herself. Who knows..

Holy crap @ Tyrion's interaction with Tywin.. Extremely well acted and tons of character development there. That's a scene I can rewatch over and over.

For some reason, it doesn't strike the same chord with me as the Twyin - Arya scenes from last season. But maybe that's just because Tywin wasn't being such as asshole at the time with Arya.

Cercei sees she's losing control of Joffery (and in extension the kingdom), to Margerie, and it pisses her off. Margerie seems to be feigning innocence and being nice to everyone in order to get power. She tried to marry Renly and that failed, now she's marrying Joffery.

On the subject of Tyrion/Tywin - the scene back in the end of season 1 I think, when Tywin tells Tyrion to go rule King's Landing in his stead, Tyrion asks him "why me", to which Tywin answers "you're my son."

In the show this was seen as a good gesture, but in the book this is taken in a completely different direction - Tyrion realized that Tywin only named him his son once Jaime was 'dead' (captured).

Just a bit that helps expand a bit on their relationship.

He seems to really like her, but I think all that means is something terrible will end up happening to her.

I did find it kind of weird that she stopped the caravan and didn't tell him anything about it, even though she clearly planned it in advance. I mean...he's the king, maybe a heads up would be nice?
