Things are great, I'm absolutly blind about what is going to happen next episode. I'm pretty sure we will not see Daenerys until S2 now that we have seen the dragons, or nothing serious.
Hate to break it you buddy but we won't see any one of them till the next season. That was the last episode of season 1.

But what about the tunnel? Isn't that the big weakness of the wall? I mean, they are closing it with gates but I feel like the wall is just for decoration when you an pass through the tunnel anyway.

Except for the wild lings and direwolves, etc. That freely pass through it to the south. They talk about the height being useful against the giants that supposedly dwell in the north still, I don't believe there is any other reason to have it so high.
All walls need a large garrison to man it or its use is lost. See Hadrian's Wall, or the Great Wall.

Well, defending a couple of small tunnels is a LOT easier than defending a 1000 miles of wasteland. You'd obviously still need to scout the rest of the wall, because otherwise people can just climb over the wall, but throwing rocks at people/zombies/giants attempting to climb up 700 feet of wall sounds a lot easier than warfare with those same beings out inthe open!

Also the wildlings finding their way south should be explained in future seasons as well as why is the wall such a good defense. So sorry, but I cannot spoil these things for you. Go read the books

I just finished book 1. I enjoyed reading the book while the show was going, might save book 2 for next season .. but I probably won't. Anyway, with how fearsome the white walkers are, nothing the wildlings do to escape them would surprise me. If they built catapults out of ice and hair to throw themselves over the wall well that's not too far.

When I started to read there books in February earlier this year I had no clue about them making a series, games etc etc. And when I finished the 4 books in 2 weeks I googled to find out when the next book was coming out. Learning that they were making a series was crazy!
Only thing I want to "complain" about is that the 5th book wasn't released when the first season ended. Would have been awesome, but 3 weeks until next book is out? Time to read the 4 first once again!

As spectacular as the episodes were, it was annoying to watch a soldier failing at sheathing his sword (no metaphors). [Very minor spoiler ahead] Take Episode 8 for example, when Barristan Selmy is relieved of his command of the Kings Guard. While he is leaving, the other Kings Guards are sheathing their sword, or at least trying to. If you look again at the far right knight you'll notice that he's yet to sheath his sword by the time the camera is switched - that's almost a full six seconds! These knights are supposed to be the best of the best meaning they're comfortable enough to at least learn how to pull out, wield, and SHEATH THEIR SWORD efficiently, and I'm very disappointed at how poorly the actors portrayed the later part.
The actors in Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins did a superb job in this specific area. If you haven't watched 13 Assassins I highly recommend it, it's even been mentioned in the movies forum multiple times on teamliquid. If you do watch it, please watch how smoothly the actors are able to sheath their katanas. They didn't even look at their scabbard. A lot of the actors in Game of Thrones did look and still had trouble putting away their swords.

While true, this could almost be intentional. As said by Selmy before he walks out, the Kingsguard is kind of a joke now. He says he could carve the 5 of them like cake, and he's an old man.
I'm sure they didn't intentionally have one of them fail to sheath his sword, but to call them the best of the best isn't really true.

Hahaha, I noticed this while watching it.. I don't want to talk about it with other fans because the fanboys are insane, they aren't subjective at all and defend everything to the death! But some things in this show are... off... to say the least. Why they didn't reshoot that scene blows my mind, the guy is front and to the right, he tries not to move when he can't sheath it but its too obvious.
This is probably a reason why they stay out of battle scenes, the extras in big battle scenes are often terrible. It never looks good, NEVER. The only movie I approve of was LOTR and they CGI'd shit, so its hard to do and expect so I just go with it.

re watching, really like the scene of Tywin and Tyrion in the tent, it was a father finally seeing the value in his son after writing him off for so long.
"They have my son!" After Tywin's speech to Jaime about the family name and how it's the only thing that lives on, it must be really hard for that character to acknowledge he looks weak.
And then later on, when Sam is trying to convince Jon not to leave, Sam is finally not a coward. There's a really theme of transformation in this episode. Sansa finally stop being a whimpering girl and actually tries to do something to change her situation, she fails but it's a decent start at a change.

Um that was kinda of the point. It's showing how shitty the Kingsguard has become. Which is why Barristan said he could defeat 5 of them at once. The only good fighter left in the Kingsguard is the Hound (they don't show his coronation in the show, but you see the white armor in the later episodes. dunno if people caught that) and ironically he hates knights

Is it Tywin seeing the value in his son, or Tywin realizing that Jaime is lost now and that he's forced to consider Tyrion as the new family heir?
