Or is it to show his age, because during the entire fight he looked either weak or very nervous, and I'm leaning more towards nervous since he was about to hold his ground with Jamie. I would also be nervous to fighting a lose-lose battle. Either I lose the battle with Jamie and die. Or I win the battle with Jamie, kill him, and promptly get killed by his 10 remaining guards. that and the fact that jamie is a superior swordsman
That and the fact all his guards had just been murdered, his entire family is fucked by now being traitors to the throne and if he has much more of a life remaining it'll probably be spent in a cell.

Jaime Lanister is widely considered one if not the best swordsmen ever to live. The fact Ned was going toe to toe with him at all is a credit to his fighting ability.
|
To me it seemed like Jaime was toying with Ned at first but then had to get somewhat serious.

I just read that the next season is not going to air until April 2012......thats a long time to wait

Jaime was probably impressed with Ned's fighting ability. go Starks! LOL I thought I was the only one to get that. Sound is of a footie dying r o f l
LOOOOL I just heard it too! It's actually a peasant/militia dying though.

how the hell is a little gay boy like (this) ser loras supposed to beat anyone... I think the point is you can't judge someone based on their sexual preference. Though maybe the 4-5 seconds of nothing but suckling was a little too much lol. I don't judge anyone. but some boyman with no muscles at all. please... that dude wouldn't even be able to hold a lance
First of all like others said, its fiction. Secondly, have you seen UFC? The bodies vary very much, and there are hardly any "bodybuilding-lookers" left. Actually many of the successfull fighters arent very muscled, speed and long limbs is extremely valuable.
Finally id just like to add that since they use weapons, strength/muscles should imo play even less of a role, and speed/reach even more.

Full suit of plate armor and a solid wood 10 foot lance? Yeah... no. Not gonna happen without some muscles.

Before I moved to the UK, I lived in Oradea [ro] and you could find all the books at the local humanitas book store.
Their online store has it as well: http://www.libhumanitas.ro/urzeala-tronurilor.html

Actually, in MMA it's not much to do with reach and speed....it's mostly that not having giant muscles to rob your blood of oxygen gives you better endurance.

Try being fast with a 10 lb sword with stick arms.

he was described as slender in the books, I think it fits perfectly.

actually the most common medieval sword, the longsword, didnt weigh more than 3 lbs, and a good part of that weight is in the pommel, for balance and the ease of handling. that being said, loras looks a bit of a wuss still.

I thought Jaime was a great fighter but never considered as a legend because he had never been in a situation where he would face a difficult opponent. Always choosing his opponent wisely, as a true Lannister.
+ Show Spoiler [don't remember which book but mo…] +That's why his mother cry when he answer her that he is a knight as his father wanted him to be, no ?

actualy a full set of plate armor made of steal weights as much as 25kilos / 50 pounds. a 10 feet solid oakwood lance is no more than 3kilos/7 pounds.
I only weight 100 pounds and if you strap that weight into my backpack i could still run at least 2 miles before losing breath.
not to mention that you are biased by what you see in movies, knights needing help to mount or put on armor. In fact I saw it with my own eyes to a festival where one man wearing full plate armor ran and catched up with a clother from the audience.
That and as you saw in the movie all that Ser Loras did since the age of 10 was train in beeing a better fighter.
All ins and outs when you strap someone on the back of a galloping horse his weight and muscle suddenly does not matter that much. Anticipation of both your position and opponent, a sure eye and a steady hand is the top requirements. And he did used a trick, a mare in heat to make his oponnent`s stallion restless.

Come on people. Loras said he practices each day with a sword. I practiced with a stick in my martial arts class 3 times per week and after a few months I could feel the difference and my arms looked way more buff then Loras although still not big. They fucked up with this and no false logic will save it.
|
What a pun. But it's logical that someone with good physical condition can do things as fast as in plate as other person, except that he'll be drained faster due to the fact that addition weight will increase the speed of energy exhaustion.
Anyways, I don't agree with the notion that you have to be muscular to be exactly strong. That's a pretty stupid stereotype. For example, I've known people who aren't muscular or bodybuilders but they could bench-press more than their own weight at least, which is more than 170 lbs. Nor were they BIG. And so on with other things like taekwondo and etc.
And as much as I know, muscle strength and sinew strength can complement each other, besides that strength and endurance training for muscles doesn't mean you'll have huge muscles. To build them up and make them look good, being "muscular" - that requires different type of exercises which doesn't necessarily increase strength much.
|
If you train martial arts seriously for a couple of years you will develop a nice muscular build for sure. Which isn't the same as being a roid monkey - but it isn't the same as being a nancy boy either :p
